Do you shoot 100 grain or 125 grain broadheads and why?
Fantail replied to burmjohn's topic in Bow Hunting
100gr seems to be part of the correct working combination of elements. Also if I ever wanted to try a different head there's plenty of options. -
How do you keep the deer out of food plots???
Fantail replied to HUNT6246's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Much easier said then done, I'd love to have even 2 plot acres on a 50 acre property. But it would take logging & major equipment to clear land before I could till it. -
This 7 pointer was a 'lunch bucket' buck. Closer to 1, but I was on public land in my climber.

I must admit to being slightly baffled at the idea of keeping deer out of food plots, but I guess I can understand where he's comming from. -
haha well that is the hard truth! I did pick up a hang on there, decent sale price oversized platform.

It's hard to go wrong with any of todays new Bows. Having said that your confidence and conditioning goes hand in hand with the Bow your in the stand with. Does your Bow have any let-off? If not maybe it's time to upgrade. If so given the time left before the opener I might take her out one more year. Then catch a good off season sale.

Bucks - biggest seen was on an old lease, Wayne Co. an easy 14, was doing an agressive grunt/fight and this frackin buck ran acrost a field up a hill and quartered to then broadsided me to 40 yards. Would have been a perfect hunt, IF, I had shells in the chamber. My worst hunting F-up ever as well. * biggest taken was 7M public land, 11 pnt. 12ga. smoothbore. would post a pic but can't figgure out uploads on this new forum system Does - biggest seen 7m public land, she was at the top of a hill in a field sunrise, size of a horse I sh|t you not. Frackin like a picture right out of field & stream, beautifull. biggest taken back on the old Wayne co. lease, another horse size doe. She was with a 4 pnt buck, she completly towered him. The loins off her were unreal, from my chest down to my feet & I'm 6'. taken with the same 12g smoothbore, she took 3 steps & dropped. 10 yard shot. * - &*%##^ ^$$ &^&$^%$%^ !!!!

Starting ..?

The approach to one of my stands is extra slow if the ground/leaves are dry. And so it kinda makes sence to hit it in the am or after a shower so hopefully I don't get patterned.

I'm thinking I agree with noodle one. Good oak trees outstrips the value of a 1/4 acre plot.

Here's another option for hunters looking to lease mostly north of the CNY area. Limestone Ridge Properties

When it's real cold I have this one peice, off the top of my head I don't remember the material so I'll just agree that fleece is good. And what Fletch said about keeping your feet warm, & a good neck gator.

I was at the property this weekend, hung two stands with my brother.

Looks like they went up all by themselves to me. hahaha Cool vid, did you use live movie maker? Wondering how the pic in vid was done. -
Apples and jumping deer
Fantail replied to NYBowhunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I also noticed apples seem to be dropping a bit early, I'm sure the deer don't mind. There's all smaller wild - crab but it sure is nice for Bow season. -
A buddy of mine is obsessed with hanging deer. Don't get me wrong it's nice to have them at a good height for processing, but if you don't have a spot, tree or garage for that then get one of those colapsable plastic tables you can adjust height with. Bending while you process will kill your back after a while. Durring bow season last year I took a buck and that day it got up to 60 at least. Now I have a pully system at camp but the point is I knew what had to be done and the rest of the day was processing. If you get into that situation it helps to have the table, a spare cooler, rinse water, ice etc.

Has hunting negatively affected your life at all?
Fantail replied to Caveman's topic in General Hunting
Several years ago I hooked up with this girl I had known for long time. Things seemed to be going along at a mutual pace. One fine morning as we woke she said something like "you know, we have to do something about that hunting thing of yours.." Well, that didn't work out for her so we 'did' do something about it, 1 week later down the road she went. Kind of a bummer to I mean I thought we got along & I liked her, she was low maintenance and put out. But letting someone controll your life by taking away the passions you enjoy is no way to live out a relationship. -
On my lease I have 2 metal ladder stands 1 wooden, my climber for some other spots, & a 16' stick and a hang on for others.

I like it. The index page is clean and you can track posts / threads etc. For the moment, we seem to be all newbies again with 0 post count And some embedded media isn't showing, but I'm sure that's a upgrade pain to be solved. Also wondering by the show all link for smileys there may be more added later?

Question; are you planning to set it up on jackstands and leaving it at your camp? If so, I agree with centerpunch, drain them. I just use a 5 gal square jug plus store 5-6 gallons. In clean contaners it keeps fresh a while.

Good luck & once your back & arm muscles get used to full draw you'll have a ton of fun shooting. Did you buy arrows for a 28" draw yet? If not when you take it to a shop for adjustment I'd have them measure for your draw again just to be sure.

How is it, that our elected legislature, earns more than minimum wage?
