Havent run my good cams for Spring Turkey pics in years.. I kinda miss it, just been too busy.

The rule of thumb for spring planted perennial plots like this is to terminate in April on a warm day and plants are green and actively growing, then plant soon after.. The idea behind these planting dates is strictly due to soil moisture and cool ground temps. When ground temps get to warm and dry, clovers don't germinate as well. So anytime from April -June with ideal planting conditions will suit you fine.. The earlier the better though to have a good fall plot. Also, Keep from spraying anything on first year clovers. These clovers set roots before really showing stem growth, so in many instances its best to use a nurse crop, like oats(which turkey love in Spring) or Spring Wheat, to aid in weed competition.. Mow before these mature and seed out.. If your going to fertilize, I would use foliar liquids, or humics/seed starter like this.. save yourself the hassle of looking for fertilizer. This company offers everything you need, and has the best on the market. https://www.grandparayoutdoors.com/product-page/humic-booster-7-5lbs

It is a fine shooting gun! Just kicks like a dang Mule for sure! Mine has a thumbhole stock and I just may consider looking for a limbsaver pad for it also. Bought it when they first came out, its always shot #4 lead really well! Keep you barrel polished and it will shoot great every year! Thank you!

Also, Most people dont really understand the difference between a 410 and a 12ga turkey load... when people say is 410 even legal? well yea, it shoots a pattern or pellets and flies at the same velocities.. you just have to adjust your max yardage per payload/pattern like anything else when we do our part and get good with our equipment.. I have a 410 that will shoot better than most normal 12 ga patterns. its light, extremely ethical and birds dont flop.. guys can shoot 3-1/2" factory standard turkey load and barely make a killing pattern at 50. Bump up to my 28ga and its a stone cold killer beyond 60.. My 535 and 835 mossbergs are flat out shoulder dis locaters.. but they pattern lead and non toxics better than most shotguns. My 535/835 guns with a 3.5 or 3" handload will flop a turkey at very very long ranges, but will also roll you back harder than the 3.5" lead turkey load .. I rarely hunt with them, but tinkering is fun. attached is a 3.5" 2.5oz handload pattern from my 535 at 35yards. Theres roughly 640 pellets in that pattern #8 Tungsten that has 1.25" deep gel penetration out to 95 yards

Flashback to a few days ago, As i was calling predators at first light.. There were birds gobbling in all directions on our lease. which was very reassuring.. As i was running a few prey distress calls, a bird flew out into a nearby field about 100 yards away and gobbled his head off all alone, the call didn't bother him a bit.. strutting his stuff on a high point.. Made me want to drop the rifle and grab a shotgun and setup on him..
-
Is that the exact pose you shot him in? On the roost limb gobbling? lol. Jokes! It looks great! someday ill have a bird mounted the same way.. Just waiting for some monster hooks before doing so. May I ask who did this? Have only seen a couple artists here in NY that call pull off a good turkey mount, and i like this one!

I typically don't feel the recoil of 3-1/2" shells while hunting.. unless my grip or form is poor while squeezing the trigger, ill feel it in different ways.. but it doesn't cross my mind a bit while hunting... I do not enjoy shooting more than a few shells at a time though. I have switched to handloading Tungsten turkey loads, and the 20ga tungsten recoil turns into a 12ga lead recoil.. I load most all gauges.. and even the 410 has some recoil to it! I've also started patterning from a tripod with a saddle grip vs on a bench.. seems a tad more comfortable when shooting heavier recoil turkey guns.

Nice! I jus tput mine together, and already thinking about making this one featureless also.. with a Thordsen. I wanted to keep it pinned and standard.. but.. cant make up my mind, I hate these laws.. with a passion. I own a many many firearms, but just put my very first 223 chamber together ever over the weekend lol

I did the same thing last year as I didnt have time to scout, on a new lease. I put up some cell cameras in areas i thought birds would be going to and leaving roost... Well out of 7 cams, I was kinda let down.. BUT, once i got to the property expecting not much for action, I was surprised that there was more action going on around the cams, than actually in front of them. Same with deer, You dont get the pics we expect all the time, but in person with the right hunting technique, many times we are surprised. I would put them out now, The other day while predator hunting at first light, there was birds everywhere gobbling.. group of toms, single toms.. this side of road and across.. The nice weather had them breaking up a bit already.. I learned they are a useful tool to help us, but do no always rely on them.. They are icing on the cake, after you do a tad bit of homework IMO

Is it the aluminum or carbon fiber? -
First trip out for the season.. 7 miles walked.. Just to find out as I was heading out the area had already been walked by someone else.. Match set laying side by side on my lease not far from the road, That a trespasser was going after pulled over from the road. I Tried approaching him and he got out of there before i could get to him. A known person of conflict.. and the single shed that was a few hundred yards away from them..

Anyone dabble in DiY light gun smithing ?
LET EM GROW replied to rob-c's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Being a Tool And Die Maker everyday for work, I am looking to start light gunsmithing. IVe drilled and tapped some receivers, cleaned, polished and tinkered with triggers over the years and Im looking to cut shotgun barrels for choke threads. I also am looking to purchase the neighbors lot and garage, or build a garage where i can plant a mill and a lathe. I have some projects id like to get into someday like finding a cheap fast twist 22cal and ream the chamber to a wildcat.. as well as many others. IT is nice seeing how things work, and with my Tool and Die background I am not to nervous about digging into things and not being able to put back together properly. IF i don't have the tools on hand, I have them at work. So it works out. ITs a hobby id like to turn into possibly a slight profit side job if it doesn't accumulate to much of my time. Im still quite novice with some firearms but the ability to learn can take you places.. -
You can order everything right to your door, to save money vs fuel consumption. other than the lower, that needs a nics check.. ITs really simple
-
Runnings has polymer Lowers for 45$ right now. Otherwise yea the prices have gone up like crazy. 100$ for a poverty pony, I just built one all in with as cheap as possible materials other than the stock. I bought a decent fixed Luth.. Im under 500$ minus the optic.. You could build one for 450 still. You wont regret 223wylde. shoot 556 for plinking and punching paper, hunt with better 223 ammo. Build it comliant or featureless.. real simple. And you can get complete uppers if you dont want to assemble barrels. right from Bear creek. 230$ uppers. only saw one barrel not shoot great and they replaced it immediately.

Ar10 is great .. but it is heavy! I got tired of carrying my 243 and sold it. Wasnt worth it, not when you can acheive the same ballistic results from an AR15. ITs a great platform for a bench basically. Im an active boots to the ground kinda hunter and prefer lighter weight rifles. but its all in what you want. Looks like Chef has one for sale here.. Id still choose any of the other calibers over a 300blk. but again, thats my opinion. I dont see it useful for much anything besides close range and punching paper. IMO
-
Exactly. straight Trash. They are nothing but great pieces of equipment, our ears, wildlife ears(For those PETA minded folk lol) and neighborhood noise etc.. they should be mandatory for hunting. And youd think as Liberal as this state is that it would be!
-
If it were me, Id still use the 223. The 300BLK would be a close range choice for deer. The 223 can get you a little further. With the right bullet and shot placement (with either caliber)you will have no issue harvesting deer with a 223. If your insisting on a deer build on an AR platform, the 350legend, 6.5 grendel or 224valk are good options also. 350, 223 and 224v ammo is everywhere

YOU NEED TO CHECK YOUR PISTOL PERMIT RECERT.
LET EM GROW replied to Larry's topic in General Chit Chat
Just set a reminder on my calender for 12/28 when its expired. Thanks. -
I say no, but depends what you want to do with it? The round is cool when you run suppressor and subsonic ammo through it. otherswise id go 223 all day.
-
144 miles round trip here.. cost me 49$ to fill my little civic up this morning. at 4.39$/gallon Straight trash!

IT will be 2-3 times higher than last year. If you can find it. This is another good reason for people to get into no till and stop beating and scratching the soil. The air is full of fertilizer, the plants take this stuff in and by no tilling, you DO NOT disrupt the soils growing eco system. You plant big blends that feed soil and wildlife and you plant with the following planting season in mind as well, based off your seed blend.. Let Nature do the work for you.. And much of Fertilizer being used isnt used efficiently anyways and much of it evaporates or your soil cant even utilize what's applied.. No Till..
