Just came across this and if it has been posted before I apologize. http://www.realtree.com/deer-hunting/articles/10-reasons-why-your-deer-season-is-about-to-suck

+1 They are cheap and would probably last a year or two.

My wife killed her first deer last night . . .
DirtTime replied to Deerthug's topic in General Chit Chat
Glad she wasn't hurt. Mind if I ask why she didn't want the deer? My g/f would have been trying to drag it into the truck while she was talking to the cops. LOL -
Pretty much the same here as Paula. The only difference is I only strain the fat off if I plan to freeze it for a later date. I simmer for a few hours, strain it, pull the meat of the carcass, and then I simmer the stock and meat with garlic, onion powder, paprika, , salt, pepper, basil, a touch of chili powder, and a few bay leaves.

Congrats grow. -
Beer is for drinking while you BBQ and cook. What brand you choose is up to you. But, if you have to waste beer and burn off the alcohol then follow turkeyfeathers guide.

I'm going "old school" next year. I am going to buy a pair of blue jeans that fit over my layers, I am buying a red plaid wool coat, and wearing a hunter orange hat.

Happy Birthday Machinist.

I was looking into this last year. It get's a bit tricky in certain areas. Example: I would drop an email to the DEC for the area you/he will be hunting. That way you have it in black and white. Especially if it's public/state land. In these times it fare better to be safe then sorry.

I love the Bills. But, for over a decade they couldn't win the ones they should if the other team didn't show up.
-
Yep. thats what I use.

You can also buy Enzyne fuel treatment that takes the moisture out of the gas. The stuff I use you can get at Wally-World for about $5 and you don't have to worry about using too much. I use in my quad, snowblower, and lawn mower. Works great.

If the deer don't want to come to you, maybe it's time to burn some calories and go to them.

I set, scan, then look at the area where my next stop will be, then I look at the ground to see what is in the way and try to avoid noise as I walk.

Strap on tree seat?
DirtTime replied to sits in trees's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I have one. It's older but still does what it should. Not super comfy. I never tried setting it low, knees and back angle might be a pain to deal with. They are light and you can fit them in a pack. -
I will be out in the AM. Same on Friday. Sat. is busy and then back out Sunday. I am really hoping this colder weather in the area get's them moving.
-
I was busting your %%%%'s dude. Geez! I apologize. I would hit the stand as you would usually in the AM. Then do some walking. Windy days are good for still hunting because the wind hides some of the noise you make. Look for parts of the deer as you walk, an ear flicker, a tail twitch....Don't try and look for the whole body, just parts of it.

Fearthebeard, with the list of friends you have on here you should be able to make a phone call or send a PM and get faster information/answers to your questions then posting.

I didn't miss the intention...... When would I use a DMP? When ever the opportunity presents itself as long as I have the tags. If that's opening day SZ I sure would kill a doe. Reasoning is I like to eat venison.
-
Oh, boy...This might get ugly....Another horns VS meat thread. Just my opinion but, as long as we do it legal I do not feel we have keep "reasoning" our kills. If I kill a doe on opening day, who cares? If you shoot a scoring buck on opening day, who cares? Hunt for you and stop worrying about everyone else.
-
Are you referring to opening day gun?
-
Not many air gun hunters on here. Maybe a handful at most. I would go .22 caliber pointed pellets, just my thoughts. Look at Beeman. I have heard they are a top brand and around that price. I would do a search for air rifle hunting forums and read what they have to say. Probably as varied as what deer hunting round is the best on here.

Elmo is spot on. I would never have another person in my stand with me unless they were my kid or taking pics/filming.

Wow, what a DB. Guess maybe you know why he may have lost those other hunting spots. Have to looked more to try and find the arrow?
