  1. If you are talking the area where you live, knowing what is around you, three or four deer a year wouldn't be an issue. There are some good properties surrounding you over there, on both sides of the road. and a pretty good sized chunk of acreage, behind you, that goes all the way to TL road. You will always have the transition factor of new bucks replacing the ones killed. Even though your one neighbors property gets hit hard.
  2. Congratulations my friend! Big ol' girl there! Nice shooting with that sweet 260! Love those old "M's"!!!
  3. Great day today! My hunting partner and I were looking to top off the freezers with a nice round doe. So we did some loops to each other, and each saw a decent buck! No doe's. Took a ride to Berne, for an afternoon coffee, and ran into biggamefish and his beautiful little girl. Had a nice little chat, and went back for one more little push. Decided to push the thick nasties along the creek bottom, behind the barn. I put Gary on the end, down by the big food plot. I got down in the thick stuff, bordered by some swamp grass, went about 75 yards and jumped the big nine I'd seen a few times during bow season!!! He jumped the creek, ran up the side hill and stopped in an opening, about 80 yards away and looked back at me. Almost, as if to say "see ya next year grampy"? As we looked at each other, I just nodded, and softly said,....."yup, see ya next year". Finished the little drive, again no doe to Gary, and legal time had come to close the season. Driving home, in the field, just above the farm at last light, stood nine doe!! May dust off the ML for next weekend, weather permitting. But it's been a good season, where we each took an eight point under real tough conditions. Shared a lot of laughs. And learned a bunch this year! It doesn't get much better than that. Dr,s appointment in the morning. Hoping that goes as well as my season!
  4. Congratulations! Nice job! You look more like Grizzly Adams........than.....well.....Grizzly Adams!
  5. Sat till noon. Saw one big doe on the way out, couldn't hold steady on her as I was shivering, and she kept moving. Home warming up now. Not feeling my best. Will give it another try tomorrow. Did find some fresh rubs and a scrape. Deer might move today before dark. But I got too cold to wait em out. Thinking about dusting off the old TC Thunderhawk Shadow, for next weekend!
  6. Your health and family are more important. Stay home. Feel better soon.
  7. I'd be proud to hunt with ya! Anyone up at this time, ready to hunt in the cold, this late in the season, has the hunters spirit! Good luck out there today!
  8. Those hooks look really cool! Probably hand forged too. Anything passed down through generations, like that, needs to be treasured. You are doing just that my friend. Awsome.
  9. Well my grandson doesn't want to sit in near 0 degree weather in the morning. So guess I'll do a solo hunt for a doe. Not feeling that great. So probably be back home by noon or so. But I just gotta be out there!
  10. Another awesome piece Matt! I really like this one! Looks like I should throw him a bone!
  11. Me Too!!! And I like to do hands on work....and research!
  12. I was glad to see him leave Carolina. Will be happy when Cam heads down the pike too. If Cam put as much thought into his passing game, as he does his wardrobe, He'd be a HOF QB!
  13. So happy to hear that, because I have a crock pot full of venison chili cooking right now!!!

    First fly rod

Absolutely!!!! If not for the trout, for the beer and burgers and laughs !!

    First fly rod

I am, for bass!! But it really doesn't matter what I use for trout, even the 'Coyote Ugly' can't help me! Because I am probably the world's worst trout fisherman! I think I'm in the record book for that title!!! I've taken kids and first timers many times, and been out fished. I have been with really good trout fishermen, who were hauling in fish, one after another. They'd set me up with exactly with what they were using, only to grin and chuckle at my expense, when I caught nothing! Perhaps after every 1000 casts, I will have a trout feel sorry for me, and let me bring him in, to be released. Pretty sure even the guides and instructors at Orvis have blacklisted me now too. Though I continue to add to their retirement fund. And there is always some new do-dad that I must buy from them. So why waste a perfectly great fly like the 'Coyote Ugly', on a tangled mess in a bush, just beyond my reach. But 2019 will be my year!!!! Pretty sure I say that every year though.....................grin

I've heard the 'Coyote Ugly' is pretty good too! Will see if I can get Tacks to send me a couple to lose in the trees!!!
  17. This happened somewhat close to me. These scumbags are a reminder that this type of poaching still goes on here in the hilltowns. I commend the LEO's involved, in bringing these idiots to justice!!!!
  18. Due to hearing loss, mostly visual these days.
  19. High fence harvests never interested me. I have no problem with anyone who does it. But it's not for me. I'll take a hundred inch eight, fair chase, and be happier.
  20. Wasn't she a Playboy Bunny......or something like that?
  21. Happy Birthday! All the best to you sir.

We go into Vermont quite often. Always stop at Orvis in Manchester. Always walk out lighter in the wallet too.....hehehe But everything is buy once, cry once from there. And I really enjoy talking with the staff, who are all friendly, and light years ahead of me in fly fishing knowledge.
  23. Of all the guys on here, I figured you would be the last, to not be able to get up!!!..... You take it easy for a bit my friend. Hope and pray, that it was just some dehydration issue. Scary stuff. Feel better soon!
