  1. All is calm. All is bright. Merry Christmas! To all my HuntingNY buddies!
  2. A great movie! Probably seen it at least 30 times.....
  3. Hopefully this is a good indication that full inclusion is nearing its enviable fruition. At least for those 55 and older. I do think it will help keep many older hunters, like myself in the woods. When we can no longer pull or hold the string on our vertical bows.
  4. Finally, I'll be making up my own hand loads, starting with 270. Is there a manual out there for a beginner like myself? One that will go over each step? And give detailed information on setting dies, case trimming, bullet depth and so on. I have the Honady manual, but looking for another with more detail. I've researched the load info for what I'll be reloading, Nosler BT. And have that information. Just want to be sure I do everything right, and not miss something important while getting my feet wet.
  5. How hard is it to swap out the limbs to 50-60? What's the cost of new limbs? I've heard the Halon's draw like a dream though. But not sure I can comfortably draw 60 plus anymore, with bad shoulders.
  6. Best of luck on your hunt! I have never been on a guided hunt of any kind. So I can't help with your question. I also have not seen many 150 inch whitetails in the wild.
  7. Bunch of stone cold deer killers sitting at that table! Have a great time guys!
  8. Yeah....ya can't send it, if ya have nothing to send it with! But you did make the best of it. Huge props for that!
  9. Happy Birthday! Happy Birthday! One for each of ya's!!! Enjoy your day fella's!
  10. Pretty tough season here, but a good one! Grandson didn't get out much, but he did have an opportunity at a mature eight, during youth weekend. Buck fever got the best of him. His football and baseball, carried over into November. After that he only went three times. No bucks seen on those days, and that is what he wants to shoot. I made it very clear, that I wouldn't pressure him to go, and that he could go ANYTIME he wanted. We did have a great time when he did go! Then the season got cold, and he's outgrown all my stuff at 14. Especially boots, at size 16!!! Once he stops growing, I'll outfit him with all he needs! He still does love hunting, but this year it seemed that he just lost some of the motivation to get out there? That, and he likes working out with his teammates and friends, preparing for the next ball season. I pray that I don't lose him as my hunting buddy. Bow season, for the first time in decades neither my partner or I shot anything. Saw some nice bucks though, and came close, but no shots taken. The "Extremely Wet" weather, flooded out traditional bedding areas and food plots on our property. Totally changing deer patterns. So it was a challenge to keep on deer. Oh, and hunted with Jdubs on the lake property. We both saw deer, but no shots taken. I passed quite a few small bucks during bow season. And had a couple awesome shooters in close, but didn't get a good enough shot opportunity. Then came the snow to start off firearms season! Was both a blessing and a curse! Opening morning had a ton of tracks from the night before but I didn't see a deer for three days!!! As they just hunkered down and did not move much at all. So I just kept trying new setups to get on deer. On the fourth day, I was going down to a thick sheltered area, where I've had a stand for years, and shot a mature eight point, 100 yards before I got there! Persistence or dumb luck.........I was very happy to get him! After I got my buck, I was trying to help my hunting partner get one too! I was also looking to shoot a doe. Wouldn't ya know, all I would see now were bucks!! And a couple of the best ones on the property. But couldn't get them to go to my buddy. But finally did push a nice eight to him. So a tough, but successful season for us!!! Learned a bunch and had a lot of laughs. Can't ask for better than that. Overall, hunted more, saw much less deer. Already making plans, and looking forward to next year!
  11. Way to go! Beautiful last day buck! Congratulations! No matter if we killed a deer or not, seems like most all of us had a great deer season! And learned something that will make us better hunters next year! For me, it's on to learning how to handload. Some predator and small game hunting with my grandson, and crow hunting with Buckmaster7600!
  12. Happy Birthday! Hope you have all the best in Family...Fun...Food !!!! (And Drink) Enjoy your special day sir!
  13. Sending good mojo to all the last day hunters out there today!! Send it!
  14. Prayers sent. Everything will be fine. They are just being thorough, so she doesn't have to come back. Please let us know when she's ok.
  15. So far, a set of pearl earings, a fancy watch that she has been wanting, a UA pullover thingy with loose collar and a small bottle of her favorite purfume. My DIL helped me out. I am finally going to start hand loading this winter! I needed a better scale and case trimmer. They came today, but can't have them till Christmas. I now have everything I need and more, to make up my own rounds. For so many years, we did not exchange gifts. Always took care of kids, grandkids and other obligations. Since my medical issues last year, my wife says we should spoil each other a little more. I agree.
  16. Think it will be a trickle rut for me. With not much chasing.
  17. I took mine in school. Ol' Ernie Ecker, our social studies teacher gave the class. He was a real hoot! Can still hear him saying, "listen up you boneheads"! But he gave a really good class. I even try to use some of his mannerisms when I give the class. To get things to sink in, and to make it fun, not boring.
  18. Beautiful job on a great buck!
  19. Welcome! Always nice to have a new hunter join us. You came to the right place, as you will have so many questions. That's good! Because right here you won't find a better group of experienced hunters, willing to help you. With whatever you want to know about hunting. Just pull up a seat and join right in! I'm in the Capitol District, so I'm not too familiar with hunting that far downstate. But OYDSSEUS is, and he does well down there, in Stewart and Sterling. Got quite a few others from down your way too.
