I know I said I would, (and didn't) put something together for Capital Region Members, or ANY members, at Maple On The Lake (google it). Just got side tracked with lots of stuff. But I will look into it again, for a Saturday in January or February. Will post date just as soon as I set it up.

My hunting partner just told me of an elderly neighbor who doesn't have enough firewood. So instead of hunting with our smoke poles, we will be cutting firewood off the farm this weekend instead.

Be so much harder to move or replace all that stuff than the girlfriend. The first year after I met my wife, I told her I won't be available much from mid October to mid December, I'm a hunter, it's part of who I am. I also like to fish in the summertime. She said fine, I'll have dinner waiting for you when you get home. I knew then and there, she was the one!!!! She's kept her bargain for 40+ years. Let me know if you ever have a closet sale!!!! We've had a few cam pic's, and sightings, of some of the same bucks, from the lake and farm properties over the years. Six or so miles apart as the crow flies.

Doesn't matter, where you live. As long as at least one shotgun lives there too. Doesn't matter, how much money you do, or don't have. As long as you are taking care of yourself and family. Doesn't matter, what color your skin is. As long as you wear blue jeans and camo. Doesn't matter, what others label you. As long as you know who you are. I know I'm a redneck.

I don't think it ever gets "easier". You're Dad was a salt of the earth type. Wish I could have known him. You my friend, are just like him, and I look forward to meeting you. I know he's so proud of you all, as he looks down with that smile on his face.

I've never done it with the hide dried out. But I think if you boil the head, it should loosen it up enough to use the power sprayer to remove the bulk of it. May just need to boil a little longer is all. Lots of videos out there on how to do it on google. Post up some pic's when your're done!!

Though we don't know this scumbag personally, we do know of him. And no surprise he's a poacher, among other things as well. No doubt, this was not the first time doing it, just the first time getting caught. Here, as well as most other places, has this lowlife type of scum, who feel they need to poach, to be a "big man" and brag about the deer they slaughter. I'd guess to make up for all the other inadequacies in their miserable lives. I've heard the list of charges is substantial. Hope a bunch of them stick. But no doubt, he and his little "crew" will be back at it again. But at least watched more closely for awhile. And sadly, they're not the only scumbags out there doing it. Man, I despise certain people sometimes. Didn't post this, because this particular buck probably came from our property. I have NEVER been one to think of ANY deer, or wildlife, that may visit our property to be "ours" or "mine". But rather think, that any poacher, anywhere, steals from all of us. This is just another disgusting example of what goes on everywhere. And just a sad reminder, of what some consider "hunting". Again, thanks to the DEC officer for doing a fantastic job! We need more of these dedicated officers out there!

My hunting partner is all hyped about learning to trap predators this year. He's been looking and learning online alot lately. Said something about a trapping "starter kit" for a couple hundred bucks? Comes with all ya need to get going. Has anyone got any info on this? And stone, is it real difficult to start trapping coyotes? Might be something I'd do with my buddy on weekends during trapping season. Doing it more for predator control than the pelts, though we would like to do our own tanning on some beautiful pelts.

Yesterday, a nice ten point buck was shot from a vehicle very close to our property. The scumbag shot the deer and drove off during daylight hours. Thankfully, he was seen doing this by a local landowner, who contacted DEC. The DEC officer arrived and set up surveillance on the dead buck, until late in the day. That's when the poacher, decided it was safe to retrieve his "trophy" and was caught by the officer! A tip of the hat, to the landowner and officer that made it possible to nab this local scum! Here is a pic of the dead buck, with a trail cam pic of what we think is the same buck on our property. Do you think it's the same buck? Did the law pass that makes the fines stiffer for the poachers who do this? I really hope so! Hope he gets what he deserves. So sad to see any deer killed by a scumbag poacher.

I use a variety of stones, diamond sticks, stropps, and a good steel to finish them off. Very Sharp! Just ask my hunting partner who used my knife to field dress his deer, a week or so ago. Lets just say there was more bleeding than there should have been! And some good natured ball busting too.
