  1. Sika deer are extremely hard to hunt - very challenging terrain and they have improved defenses over whitetails. Killing one in the Chesapeake/Mid-Atlantic region brings a lot of kudos from other hunters. Very well known to be a big success.
  2. They are currently selling for more than MSRP based on demand. It'll fall in the next few weeks, months as stock levels catch up. Right now, I have a standing list of people making offers for the 6 coming in Wed.
  3. I have a half dozen of the Bushnell Impulse in this week and sold my first one last week. Moultrie will have an integrated cell cam out, too. Moultrie is really hitting hard with a super low retail price. Curious to see what it can do at that price point. Less than $200 for their premium model. The Impulse should perform really well, but it has a few design areas I am not so sure I like. They have the cam open downward to be convenient when on a tree. Sounds great in theory, but it's a recipe to get moisture into it. Also, the length of the cam opens, so it's not like a small door. The cam body itself is a bit awkward shaped so I am curious how easy it'll be to attach to the tree. It does have a small adjustment knob on the bottom to level the cam. It is rather thin though...sleek in appearance.
  4. There is no point in pushing out camera purchases based only on some advancement being just over the next hill. Alot like other "nice to have" tools...there will always be advancements of some sort. Standalone cell cams have different purposes than mesh networks and different capabilities/limitations. My suggestion is to buy a standalone cell camera now. Set it out and get used to set-up, controls, how to troubleshoot, and determine battery life for your specific situation. In mid-late spring, make the important decisions about what you will need and buy for the 200 acres. That gives you 3-4 mos to implement the cams, overcome any learning curve, and be ready for the fall season. All in all, I think I ran right around 20 cams in cellular or mesh networks this fall.
  5. Sportsman's Warehouse has them online for $80.
  6. Not following you. What cam are you asking about specifically?
  7. You don't need to see it; don't believe me, fine. Scroll on sir.
  8. Rule of thumb - for every $50 you spend on a regular camera, you get one year of use. Anything beyond that is gravy. You likely have some internal issues with constant power draw - probably soldering that has rusted out as Moultrie and most cams do not have coated internals to prevent corrosion. A couple options being to open cam and attempt to locate bad solder (if that is the case) and repair. You could also try an external power source. My advice follows the law of diminishing returns - if you won't tinker with it to repair and can do so in a short amount of time, then it's probably done. Better off buying new. I also wouldn't consider the 990i high. Definitely mid-range. 0-100..low, 100-200, mid, 200+ high.
  9. I find locks, cables, and chains only add $$$ to the amount you lose when the stand or cam is stolen.
  10. Yeah it is illegal for the average joe. They do this to avoid disease vectoring. Kill them if they need to be caught.
  11. True story, I caught a big boar and let it loose under Moog's tonneau cover. Boy was he surprised when the tailgate dropped! Carpet is a little less noticeable now.
  12. The voluntary reporting % is up. Still flawed data, despite doing the best they can with stats projections.
  13. He has a Proof 02 Gen 1. The Gen 2 models have improved durability and make for some really sharp daytime pics. Night flash still overpowering on some close images, but not bad.
  14. Really nice bucks in there - though the title seems misleading as there are a number of large bucks not included in the list - all of which have made internet, local paper rounds. That 16 y/o has killed two deer in the past three years that are lifetime bucks for grown men in the Midwest. Unreal.
  15. The 4runner by far. Not even in the same league...they are well made and capable. I have multiple friends from high school who STILL OWN their 4runners from the 90s, and have went on to buy new ones for them, wives, etc. The consistent performance commands a price tag however. A few model years have quirks but are readily found on the internet so you know what to look for when buying used.
  16. I think the OP is using it for a hunting shack to keep out of the weather - IE a permanent or semi permanent blind. A basic solar panel rig, optima or similar battery, and LED light will run for years without needing attention vs. a lantern where you need to remember to charge NiMH or similar batteries. At some point, you'll forget and have no light. It's not a high draw high use scenario.
  17. It's not the deer. It's him. I try to get him to sit the furthest back in group photos, ha. It's a really nice deer...early season capes are gorgeous.
  18. For a permanent or semi permanent shack, I'd probably opt for a solar panel rigged to a basic LED light. They're really cheap now and no need to worry about rechargeables being charged. That said that lantern is really nice. A friend has one and I borrowed it the other day and about fell over when I turned it on while looking at it. Dumb, but impressive.
  19. Cam is $20 for a reason. Junk. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. That’s a different cam sir. Your cam is much better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I’ve grown into a ford truck fan. I love my ranger. 1999 ORP. Thing was a tank. Regret ever getting rid of it with lots of life left. Have had two escapes and an f150 now. First escape threw a rod at 191K after a ridiculous amount of neglect and minimal cost. Replaced the alternator and two abs sensors in the entire time outside of brakes, oil, filters. Current one is at 163K and hybrid. Love them honestly. Like my F150 but really prefer the small and mid size trucks. Definitely eyeballing the Ranger a couple years into the new model line. 22. Smart man. My wife hates me at this time of year. Hunting winding down, so she barely knows who I am, and then I hop on planes to warm sunny destinations free of charge (still have to work). Quiet and nice hotel room - usually the Hilton, Marriott or Sheraton....and I get to eat steak or whatever I want, and usually send a pic of the palm trees and beach in the background to her. She loves me this time of year, I mean. I keep trying to line up a trip to Las Vegas on company business. Been close a few times but hasn't worked out. The July and August trips really are awful though. Sorry guys, but I'll take the sunshine this time of year. Enjoy the wings for me. I would suspect a Jan-Mar weekend night might be easier to work in.
  23. I have videos of bucks turning inside out at cams. Others, they actually lick the camera. I've posted several videos of examples in past years here.
  24. Same excuse here. I'll be traveling home working from sunny Clearwater Beach/St. Pete. Absolutely sucks in July/August/Sept. Not so bad in December, January, February...
