  1. It's a cold weather hunting suit, like a sleeping bag with legs. No arms, it zips up to the neck. You carry it in and put it on once your in your stand/ blind. It's must have for staying warm. I use toe warmer in my boots, and put a few warmers in my pockets, zip up in the HBSuit and enjoy the hunt. Look em up online too for more details. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Toasty warm in my heater body suit, not too windy on the lee side of this woods. Bumped two on the way in and saw a robin. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I have the week off so am getting ready to head out for a bit, I will hunker down on the ground for awhile. Why must the wind blow so hard on the start of opening week? I will ask ma nature while I'm out there. Tues eve sit is looking good, and calm winds on Wednesday, so get out then if you can.
  4. Has to be the quietest opener I've ever seen. Very few shots after the first hour, which was very quiet. The weather played a part, but there are fewer hunters every year it seems. I sat all day through the wind, ran and sleet and saw 4 doe the first hour, that was it. We have snow on the ground and once the wind dies down, the deer should be looking for food, especially with the colder temps the next few days.
  5. The wind was gusting and making my tree stand sway pretty bad Saturday afternoon, it wasn't a fun sit.. I opted to still hunt on the ground this am and will sit on the ground tomorrow. It's just too windy to be up in a tree stand. I guess the deer are hunkered down pretty good with all this wind. I didn't see many today, very few hunters out and didn't hear much shooting. That was the quietest opening weekend I've ever seen by far.
  6. Just starting to snow here in Livingston Co, ground is covered. Wearing rain gear today, that show is a soaker. Hunting in the snow is the best, should be a good morning.
  7. For sure, all day sits require one to carry a lot more. I got the bath room scale out a few weeks ago to check the weight of my pack and cloths I was wearing, including boots and bow..... and that totaled 30 lbs. My pack on all day sits is about 20 lbs, but I carry 3 bottles of water, food, extra cloths and my heater body suit, along with all the other necessities. I often have an hour or more hike in, so there is no going back to get something I need or forgot.
  8. Hardly anyone hunting over in my area this week, including me, due to work. But I did dive around to see who's out. I took the last day off to hunt and prepare for tomorrow. Quiet so far. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. The plywood is a great practical tip, thanks for sharing! I mostly hunt alone and have had sciatica issues, so have to really be careful when it comes to lifting. Now I'll be looking around here for a spare piece of plywood.
  10. In areas where deer are pressured hard, they will head for a place they feel more safe and has fewer hunters. Property that is off limits/posted safe zones. They may also hunker down in thick cover during daylight hours and only move at night. If pressure is light, you may not see much change, but this season I expect to see the rut popping loose in the first week of gun here in the southern zone, so it's a great time to be out in the woods.
  11. Opening day: 100 yard wide wooded ravine that runs east / west between cover and surrounded by open crop fields. It's new to me and has a heck of a buck roaming the area. Sunday: I could be on the ground, public land, where hardwoods meets pine woods loaded with sign. I found this spot last weekend while roaming around. Good luck to all.
  12. That will be some change in weather and great timing with the cold front passing through on Saturday and Sunday. 20-30mph winds blowing wet snow in the face on Sunday sounds interesting. Hard to beat deer hunting in the snow!
  13. Sounds like a great hunt! That will be some very tasty venison for sure, congrats!
  14. I'm leaning in that direction. I kept waiting for the rut to happen, did some all day sits, hunted hard but have just not seen much deer movement. It looks like the last week of October was hot, but not much since. I may hunt an hour or two here or there this week, but pretty much resting up for gun season.
  15. Sounds like something I'd do. I'm sure it has nothing to do with age.
  16. That sounds like it was painful ! Hope it heals quickly and you can get out in the woods soon.
  17. Saw small 5 pt first thing this am, sat all day and never saw another deer. Back to the drawing board with stand selection. It's been a tough bow season here.
  18. Wow! Great story and congrats on two beauties! Way to hang in there for sure.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I'm very disappointed and will be writing to the park to let them know. i think the restrictions have been in place for about 10 years now and it's really helped. There seem to be a lot of bucks that have a spike or 4pt rack the first year and they just need another year or 2 to blossom into a bruiser.
  20. You're buddy took a nice one there, congrats to him! Hope the drag wasn't too long. Looks like I'm striking out with the bow again and in fact, this season, I have yet to even see anything decent.
  21. Way to go Dez Yeah, the wind won today at my stand....coming right down the gorge all day. Saw a couple small bucks early, but dead all after that. I got down from the tree at 2pm and headed up to the pines for the last few hours. Calm winds early tomorrow and temps below freezing. Should be one of the best days so far this season!!
  22. Nice bucks, hope they come by next time you're there.
  23. I go in 'deep' to get away from other hunters on state land and to experience the wilderness feel, not to mention the river bottom here holds some big bucks. So it takes me an hour or more to hike into some of my stands. It's pretty crazy considering there was a 140" buck wandering through my yard here, last season (mostly at night). I have several trail cam pictures of him, but I hunting him very little. And this year, there's a bigger buck.... a few miles up the road.... that 2 people I know have seen hanging near a gully that is 100 yards from the road. So, today, as I'm sweating, huffing and puffing....carrying all my gear in and out 2 miles from the road... ( 1hr + each way)......I can ask myself.... wtf is wrong with you boy?!
