Out glassing birds and setting my blind. 4 toms and a bunch of hens in the same place as the night before haleys youth hunt. I’m waiting till they head for the woods then I’m gonna set up in basically the same spot as I did For Haley. Looks promising for the morning!

Thanks. He’s getting there. He got out of the physical therapy place Friday and is now living at my sisters, right down the road. Youd be more than welcome to come out sometime, have a couple beers and catch some fish.

Absolutely. That’s my daughter BTW. Lol

Not if I can help it. I quarter them up that day or the day after, then cut up the quarters as quickly as I can. Sometimes they will be in the fridge for a day or two.

Haley has one already so I get dibs on the next one.

From the antlers or meat thread , do you like venison
WNYBuckHunter replied to rob-c's topic in Deer Hunting
I love venison, especially backstraps and heart. Roasts are used for jerky or ground, neck roasts are "pulled venison", the rest is ground up and used for burgers, sausage, tacos, etc. Venison has nothing on a good ribeye, porterhouse or strip steak though. -
Im taking mornings off next week

Oh yes, that 60 gallon tank is gonna be fun to fill. I gotta get one of those "Grass, Gas, or Ass. Nobody rides for free" stickers for it. Im not gonna be one of those suckers that waits and fills it up on the water though. Ill take it to the gas station on the way home and fill it so its good to go next time I take it out.

Hes been talking about getting another boat for close to a decade, but just kept changing his mind about what he wanted and then put it off "until next year". Well, next year finally came lol. Although it should be a lesson, as now that the boat is finally here, hes not able to do anything with it except go for a ride in it. He cant tow it (cant drive), cant put it in the water, cant drive it, cant clean it.....heyyyy, now Im starting to catch on, he left all the work for me while he gets to cruise around with the wind in his hair! Son of a!

If you ever bring your ass out here, we will go out on it and do some fishing and have a few drinks.

Earlier this year my father had a major stroke. He has been in the hospital since early February recovering. a few weeks ago he talked to me about how he wants to start doing some things he has been putting off. First thing on the list, a boat. He was saying he wanted a pontoon boat so that he could take all of the kids and grandkids out on the lake, so he gave me a mission to find something. I told him that a pontoon boat wasnt the best way to go, as they suck to fish from, due to being a big sail in any wind, which was extremely hard to keep in place, and I would come up with something. Well, after some searching, I came up with a 22 foot Harris Super Deck. Its basically a Pontoon style layout in a fiberglass V hull. It has room for 12, and is a V8 I/O powered boat. Its the perfect setup for alot of people, fishing, cruising, tubing and water skiing. Its a heavier boat, so it does well in bigger water. The boat is in great shape with the exception of the upholstery, which we will be sending out in the off season to be redone. Monday I went and picked it up and did all of the paperwork. I also bought all of the accessories we would need to be legal. There went a few hundred. Today I went to the DMV to register it and the trailer. There went another six hundred. Then I added it to my insurance policy I had for my ATV. Theres another four hundred. Geeze, I havent even put the damn thing in the water yet! Its been years since I owned a bigger boat, and this week was my reminder that BOAT really does stand for Break Out Another Thousand. It will all be worth it though to see the old man happy after everything hes been through, and to watch the kids have fun.

This morning I was taking the dogs out and heard a couple of gobblers firing off right behind our barn and pond area. Im guessing they are hanging around because of our turkeys down in the barn. I figure next week Ill have to spend a couple of hours back there to see if I can catch them hanging around again.

Fixed it for you...

When you setup that rolling mouse trap, and put the water in, rather than the peanut butter, add some bird seed. It will float on top of the water. The mice think its a bucket of seed and they fall right in. Youll be surprised how many you catch. Make sure to dump it about once a week or it will reek.

Both for me. Meat hunting is not really much of a challenge in my areas, but its fun. Is it to the point of I can go and guarantee that Ill put one on the ground at any time I choose? No, but give me a few days and I will. Hunting mature bucks (Ill define this as 3.5 y/o and up) is a whole different ballgame though, and that is where the challenge comes in for me, and the most satisfaction. There are many other aspects to hunting that I enjoy more than the actual kill. Simply asking "meat or antlers" is too black and white to give a real answer IMO.

Good luck Dan!

Is it hunting? Yes. Is it a challenge? Yes. Is it the same type of challenge as getting in super close? No. I enjoy both though. By the time bow season is over, Im ready or something different.

Things to do in Canandaigua, NY area?
WNYBuckHunter replied to goosifer's topic in General Chit Chat
I live in Bristol, about 10 to 15 mins from downtown Canandaigua. Honestly, its a little early for most of the things Canandaigua has to offer. You can check out Sonnenberg, but the flowers and whatnot arent blooming yet. Theres shopping if youre into that, you can walk down by the lake and check out the pier, though most of the shops down there arent open yet. Some decent resteraunts. Victor is not far away, theres a big movie theater over there, the mall, lots of higher end stores and some good restaurants. If you want to do something outdoorsy, Bristol mountain has zip lining and hiking. I believe last weekend was it for skiing there. Naples is a nice town on the south end of the lake. Theres more to do in Rochester, but you are talking a 30 - 45 min drive depending what you are looking to do. Letchworth State Park is not that far away, 30 mins or so.
