Any time after the threat of frost is best for potatoes.

Depends on variety. There are some bush type smaller pumpkins.

I killed my first turkey with a push button call like that one. I remember it like it was yesterday even though it was 1997. I wasn't really sure what I was doing at all. It ended up being a jake that came in all by himself. Getting him really lit my fire for turkey hunting for the next 10 years or so.

Most of my kills have come in early season, usually the first couple days. I haven't hunted much the last 5 or 6 years though. I have a friend that is in his 70s and the best turkey hunter I know. He has killed some slammer turkeys at the very end of the season.

I agree. I had two all fall and winter at my place. Pretty common here where I am.

I'm honestly not sure my wife got him going. She said it was like a 7 part course

My son started it yesterday.

I'm glad. My son has his lifetime and will turn 12 later this summer. -
While I was out at the pond with my son this afternoon I just had to have a closer look at the ribbons. I pulled some up to just out of the water and saw tons of little wigglers inside! I'm pretty excited about it, hopefully a bunch will make it. Last spring it was stocked with lots of fatheads, 50 perch and 50 crappie. Hopefully some of the crappie will spawn too. We've tried dropping some worms in the pond the last two weekends but haven't had any takers yet.

I'm in need of a guy now and I'm worried I won't find anyone due to people being able to make comparable wages on unemployment. It sucks that I have to compete with that to find help. -

Its killed me all day wanting to watch this but having to wait till the kids head to bed later.

When the kids and I took a walk around my pond today I found what I think are perch ribbons (eggs) but I'm not sure as I've never seen them before and the perch were stocked last spring. Does anyone know if that's what these are?

When I was out in Oklahoma on a hunting trip last fall the guides wife cooked us some hamburgers and a pork loin on a traeger grill. The food was awsome that came off that thing. Today I bought one for home. I'm seasoning it now. Hopefully this week I will have something good to eat off of it. I can't wait!

Here kitty kitty! Oh man if I wasn't so tired I'd stay up and watch this whole thing tonight.

I used to get a pad and pen and make a list of all the things I wanted. I would have the page, the item name and catalog number all written down and ready to go.

They caught two. I was informed their names are Preston and Brianna. Of course being brothers they are now arguing over who's is who's. Aaahhhh brotherly love!
-
Upon further questioning it turns out they caught it out of the ditch that my swamp drains into not out of the pond.

I agree I just found a picture online. Thanks.

Last year I stocked my newly built pond with fathead, crappie and perch. Today my kids caught a bunch of fathead minnows and this strange looking minnow in the shallows. Does anyone know what the heck it is. I don't think it is any of the varieties I stocked but could be wrong.

Looking to get my garden going soon. We'll start with 60 or so acres of onions then go on to about 180 acres of potatoes to go with a high tunnel full of tomatoes, 6 acres of sweet corn, a couple acres of squash and pumpkins and then we'll throw in taking care of apples and peaches too. Won't be long and it will be pretty much non stop till November!

Ha! I don't know what it is anymore. I haven't been down to his camp in Canisteo in years. When I was in my late teens and early twenties it was my favorite place in the world to be and I spent a ton of time there...... drinking Milwaukee's best lights! -

There's always Milwaukee's best light. That was my uncle's drink of choice. -
I'm hoping I can find a class this late summer or early fall. My son turns 12 in September and has his lifetime all ready to go once he gets his course.

I saw a buck still holding one side a couple nights ago. I figured they were all dropped by now.
