  1. I used to use hang ons and liked them ok but They never felt as secure as a ladder stand . I’m not a big believer in the straps provided ; always supplemented my rig- up with a chain for extra security
  2. If credible , probably an escaped monkey or something lol
  3. Welcome aboard! Catskills are a good place to get started but I’d be a little careful about still hunting if you have no experience . Expect there to be LOTS of other hunters around , especially opening weekend so if you’re going to still hunt MAKE SURE you’re rockin the blaze orange BIGTIME . That said , do some scouting if possible on public land and maybe you can use other hunters to your advantage . I like to be in deep before sunrise and as the orange army venture in at daybreak , maybe they’ll push something to you, good luck
  4. Yeah , Not surprised it’s made in China But so’s everything these days. I’ll check it out , Thanks for the link
  5. Has anyone been actually stopped yet or is it all just talk right now ?
  6. I’m sorry for your troubles; sure hope she recovers fully
  7. No doubt! Very worrisome to see our individual freedoms being eroded as of late , ostensibly because of the virus but also , with all the anti- law enforcement sentiment pervasive out there , I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the left becomes more aggressive and goes after the 2nd amendment.
  8. Oh ok , so What’s a Saddle stand ? Not familiar with that
  9. Yup , according to the NYS Forest Ranger that ticketed me you do. I still have other stands deeper in that they didn’t find ( I guess) but technically, all stands AND TRAIL CAMS MUST be removed at the end of the season on state land : ridiculous. I have to check out these Vipers. How heavy are the aluminum ones would you say roughly ?
  10. Hey Guys , For the past number of years Been putting up ladder stands because they tend to be more secure ; downside is , they’re a pain to put up and take down unless you have help . Also , for the first time ever , I was ticketed this past offseason for keeping my stand up on public land . By law , I know you’re supposed to but had never been caught before so seems like It’s even More impractical to take up and out down a ladder stand each and every season where I hunt . So , I’m thinking of switching to a climber . I’ve never used one before . Do you like them ? Any brands or makes you woulD recommend ? Thanks , hope everyone’s safe and well
  11. Scary times were livin in right now aren’t they
  12. I grew up using my Grandfathers old 410 , first gun I ever shot matter Of fact but we used it for squirrels only. I would not use it for deer . could it kill one? Sure but more than likely you’ll wound it , much better to use something that will do the job with a decently placed shot .
  13. Awesome video , very informative thanks so much
  14. You can get it up in the air by yourself ? Wow that must be tough those suckers are heavy !! I had one other guy help me and was still tough to suspend it , directions call for three guys but that’s hard to coordinate
  15. Setup my 16’ ladder stand yesterday and as always, what a workout ! I humped the set and top ladder portion in while my buddy jumped the other 2 sections of ladder and the tools . It was ok but but tough especially since it was a good 15-20 minute walk in. Anyone have any advice on what they’ve found makes it easier to jump those suckers in? Thanks
  16. There’s some state land in Wurtsboro right off of 17 that you can hunt ; also, you can do Stewart over by Newburgh and sterling forest area
  17. Hiked in yesterday to setup a drip bag , possible stand setups and scope out the bedding area and I found 2 major runs in a line leading to this : looks like a bedding area and body imprint to me, what do you think ? Kinda hard to tell but maybe?
  18. I believe there is a bedding area close by , I saw a faint trail leading to some evergreens which looked like it could be but not sure , didn’t wanna bump anything so I didn’t get too close . Should I go in closer ? Btw , that landline you see is An old porcelain dish buried ; deer musta scraped down and discovered it and started pawing at it lol
  19. I’m doing the same thing myself this weekend with a ladder stand for opening of rifle
