Just read a article where Dicks is doing a 10 store test and removing all hunting gear. Guns, clothing, ammo, optics, ECT. These stores are the ones that are doing badly in this area. There was talk about Cabela's coming into Albany several yrs ago. The location was near the times union newspaper building close to wolf Rd and I87. They decided the market didn't support the cost and they scrapped the idea. I'd definitely like to see them come to the area. -
7 yrs until my wife retires at 55 with 32 yrs in the state, and we're south bound. Tennessee is on the top of the list. Can't come soon enough. Absolutely loath this state, and lived here all my life except for a 4 yr stint in Ohio in the mid '70's.

1979 in Old Chatham NY. It was opening day of rifle, my first. At 7:47 AM a 3pt walked within 25 yrds of my ground blind. Shot him with a Marlin 336c 30-30. He went 20 feet and crashed into a pine tree. Dad had a smile bigger than me if that's possible.

I used to take it to the local shop (who always did a great job), because I couldn't stand laying on the dirt in the driveway to change the oil. Now that I've got a heated shop with a concrete floor, I've been changing the oil in my truck and wife's car. I've got a case of oil and 3-4 filters for both.

The colder it is, the less early movement I see. See more deer on their feet late morning during extreme cold.

3:30 ish. Never ready when planned. Planned on hunting this morning, but I decided to help the better half. I'm thinking it was a wise decision.

If I waited for a 200# buck, I'd never shoot a deer. In my area, it rare to get a buck over 160# let alone 200.

What do you consider mature? 2.5? Then you state " shoot what you want it's your tag", but that's exactly what you're complaining about.

So, it's only good hunting if 2.5 yr old and up are taken?

I've had nothing but positive encounters with DEC. Definitely would consider being checked harassment.

I really hope we never see AR's. My full freezer is my trophy.

Live in old Chatham. Got about 7, but it's melting from the ground up. Probably down to around 4-5.

Thanks for the info. I've had nothing but positive encounters with DEC officers over the yrs, and have the utmost respect for them. Good luck to everyone heading out for SZ opener Saturday. Be safe.

To go onto private/posted lands without permission? Just curious as I mentioned in another thread that I've been checked on posted property before. No he didn't walk into my stand, but I've been parked several hundred yards off the road in a hidden field and has ENCON waiting at my truck more then once. So what are they allowed to do as far as posted property is concerned?

I'm not sure what there "officially" allowed to do, but it is possible this landowner gave permission for him to check hunters on his land. I believe, but not sure, ENCON officer can go onto private lands if he believes theres illegal activities going on. Maybe someone with more knowledge will reply.

Yes I've been checked several times on private land. Sometimes parking several hundred yards onto the private land and getting checked. I've also been checked as soon as I hit the town road.

Pretty tuff to wear out a 30-30 barrel unless it was abused and never cleaned. I'd try a couple different brands of ammo.

I'm ready. Beyond ready... Didn't have time to bow hunt this yr. First time in 40 yrs I didn't bow hunt.
