It could've died from CWD on the farm. Lol. Easy ....FSW.....just kidding!

If everyone argues enough then they will take away all their guns, and crossbows and compounds and you will have everyone right where you want them. Primitive traditional bows only! And heck we know you don't care you can get a deer with anything and everything and proved it this year! Lol.

I also have a spot I have killed a turkey three years in a row until last year. Next year I plan on doubling there to catch up.

We have a lease now for the 5th year and have a stand like that. It was actually an afterthought on our first year there. I was trying to set up some stands for gun season and get a couple of buddies lined up. So got two stands up for them in spots along trails they could see great on. And didn't have a place for myself. So threw up a 9ft stand without one ladder section last minute out of the way in the middle of property......and yup I had a buck down by 8:30. Lol. (One buddy shot and missed a huge buck though) Thus it was named the opener stand. Then next year I missed a doe on opening day same stand. Next year put my buddies son there opening day and he saw a buck but too far to shoot. This year saw 6 deer there opening day and last Thursday a buddy took a doe and missed the buck behind it. And it's one lone little tree on the back end of a pond. After learning the land better realized it's one of the only ways to get across the entire property without swimming so it's a great spot. Lol. And ..... I plan on being there sat morn.

Thinking of gun season with Muzzleloader
Robhuntandfish replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Muzzleloaders
i didnt. I bought a new .450 and been using that. But i did save some time just for the muzzle season and also have two standing cornfields i can hunt that i didnt expect to have. So kinda been saving it as something to look forward to. -
my new deer gun this year is the .450 Ruger . I have really gotten to like carrying it. It is so light and compact for the tree stands and walk abouts. I am liking it even more than i thought. Just need to break it in on a deer! Havent taken the safety off yet.

Bachelor night TF?
-
Bear breakfast sausage with wild blueberries in it. I think TF suggested that when I went bear hunting last year......but never got the bear to try making it.
-
You have to long arm it close to the camera so it looks bigger . Like your lipping a 3 pound bass to make it look like 6 lbs!
-
thats pretty interesting , thanks for sharing. Have always wanted to get one NY bear sometime. Always figured i would prob grind a lot of it but def was gonna try a few steaks and stew meat as well. One of these days.......

is there a coalition or a website I can sign up for to leave the seasons alone! lol I love them just the way they are!

trail cam - hiding vs spooking
Robhuntandfish replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
All good info right there thanks! i usually only put mine out August 1 and then check them sept 1 and then again when i am in area hunting on the way out. I also leave them in my hunting shed so they dont get house smells. thinking i will disable any with red flash and do daytime only mode. Cause i agree it seems like it scares the crap out of them. And I have to walk into properties to get them unfortunetly so no wheeler option which makes sense and would be great. And i am gonna go with those higher mounts and without the straps. They are fun and I have 6 of them and like to see whats around - thanks for the info - will put it to good use -
trail cam - hiding vs spooking
Robhuntandfish replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
yeah thats what i have been thinking too. And the fact there is something new in the area - and they see it. Gonna try going higher and angling them down more. I have a couple of regular spots that they seem to not notice but dont want them any more wary than they already are just for a pic. I am gonna hunt these areas anyway so hate to disturb them . I have a buddy who is a constant trail cam checker, been tellign him he shouldnt be in there so much. I actually in one of my places to hunt dont put the cams near my stands but on our lease there isnt a lot of choices for trails etc or even trees to put them up on. thinking next year gonna restrict using them some and when i do place them higher. Its tough enough to get a buck to come in , and hate when i get a pic of them running from my cam with full flag! -
i just (like 30 seconds ago) put my last one in for a muzzleloader day on the 13th. Hope our days pay off!

So how many different ways are there to field dress a deer?
Robhuntandfish replied to goosifer's topic in Deer Hunting
When I worked for DOT , hang them with the loader, zip down the back and take out the straps, peel the skin down and take off each hind then drop into debris pile out back and bury with loader. Lol -
You def did everything for him as he has given everything for you. Always sad to lose a dog but always great to know you were the one that got to enjoy his whole life with you. My last dog "Shooter" I had for 18 years and we enjoyed a steak together on the couch for his last night. Sorry for your loss for you and the family.

Didn't see a thing tonite but was a nice sit. Haven't taken the safety off the gun yet this season. Next weekend is big drive weekend at lease. Haven't seen a deer since opening day.

Well at least it works out for you with a place to hunt to yourself. That's half the battle. It def gets tough sometimes. I gun hunt 7f where they hand out free leftover doe tags and I haven't taken the safety off the rifle yet or seen a deer since opening day. Can always look and make improvements to hunting for next year, but good luck for the rest of this year.
