  1. Alright..alright!!..I will jump..Purely for selfish reasons... I like them.. Is It right? Not sure..still on the fence.. but it improves my hunting experience.. Do I agree ..not necessarily, but I like them
  2. I am firmly stuck on the fence.. on the one hand, my favorite hunting spot has antler restrictions and I love the results.. (Wouldn't bother me if they raised it to 4 on a side)...on the other hand, I hate government intervention in most things..I think we aught to be able to self govern ourselves in this matter.. See.. dam fence ..lol
  3. TC encore 300 win mag, 3-9 nikon, 150 gr remingtons Switch to the .50 cal ml. Barrel for southern tier work. Both are shooters.
  4. So true.. you can do everything you can think off to increase your odds, but a little bit or sometimes a lot of luck is involved...
  5. Thanks for the reminder! It is because of a story like this that I wear a harness now..And I'm one of those monkey types (a fatter one now..lol) that climbs to 30' with or without stands and will sit on a branch...

    Corn Fields

Around here ,they seem to be behind last year. They have just started cutting .. I am hoping my farmer holds off untill next thursday.. the first few days after are ussually the best..
  7. The sad fact is most of us are morons (public ), jumping on the bandwagon of one side or the other because a few things they push ring true. Politics just makes me sick. Out rite lies from both sides .

  9. Does it have to be horizontal distance?? I have had too many to remember that I could have dropped something on the head.. lol
  10. Had a small buck , don't remember how many points get tangled in a fence next to my house. Took me a few minutes and a few bruises ,when he was struggling to get out , but I got him untangled. Afterwards somebody asked me how come I didn't shoot him( it was hunting season) . It just didn't seem right , the thought never entered my mind. Shot a decent 7 point last year at about 10' with ml.
  11. Yeap.. I don't actually have any planted food plots . I do have over 50 wild apple trees that I keep cleared out and pruned . They are absolutely loaded this year.. I have been feeding the pigs 15-20 gallons of apples for the past 3-4 weeks and it doesn't even touch them..This group of trees here is not too far from the house and barn so it sees regular people traffic. Always good for a doe or small buck though.
  12. Oops no pics..maybe this will work..lol Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 4
  13. I see pics of everbody else's plots so I thought I would share some of mine..
  14. More than likely its due to target panic . For some reason those distances brings it out more in you.. I know I will get in the bad habit of looking at my pin.A person's mind is only capable of concentrating really well on 1 thing at a time... Put your main focus on the target and let everything else happen..
  15. 2 years ago while hunting near the bottom at Letchworth sp I see a bear.there is no bear hunting in the park. So I am sitting there watching him mess around.. he even climbs up a tree less than 100 yds away..I'm sitting on the ground with my shotgun so am not really worried about him. Eventually he wondered off. An hour later a 9 point comes by.Bam!! He scrambles and falls about 100' down a really steep bank. He doesn't move. In my excitement I scramble/ fall to the bottom. I gut him and knowing there is 0 chance of getting him out by myself, I head out to get help..4 of us get back there ,its dark now....we throw a rope over the edge and 2 of us go down the other 2 wait up top . I'm standing at the spot my deer was and he was gone.. Dam bear! So here the 2 of us are at the bottom of a cliff and the edge of this thick #@$% with 2 pocket knifed LOL... So we did the only smart thing and started following the drag marks. We hadn't gone 60' when the guys up top are hollering down (still dark out) saying they think they hear something in the brush . We didn't hear anything so continued on.. they hollered again.. we continued... Again ...and we heard it too... And decided this was pretty stupid and turned around and and climbed the rope back out... Upon returning in the am: with shotgun this time we found my deer 90% eaten. I have no iedea how a bear could eat that much meat in one night but it was gone... At 1st glance he didn't appear touched but the hide was pulled free and he ate everything underneath.. Turns out the night before we could not have been more than 50 yds from the bear.. So I left with a good story , set of horns , and no meat...
  16. I have no idea..lol... I am not going hunting.., but a few of my friends are...
  17. Nice..I love my encore.. Seems like everybody is going to Newfoundland this year

    big buck?

Except for the last five years , most of my hunting grounds consisted of lands where a 2 3/4" spike isn't safe. You can drive around and spot the fields at night and count 20 does to one buck if your lucky.. A 2 1/2 year old buck is hard to find. I know plenty of guys who've hunted their whole lives and never shot anything over a 1 1/2 year old buck.. Now... if it is before my southerntier trip I will pass up a 2 1/2 year old buck because there are decent odds of seeing an older buck down there. If I fail at that the 1st 8 point walks in front of me when I get home gets it...lol
  19. Slick trick. Viper tricks are getting some very good writeups and reviews..I am thinking of using them this year..
  20. Off topic, but I never did understand the mindset of having to shoot a flying duck. I will shoot sitting ducks all day.Small chance.. or at least a Lot less likely to wound or miss one.
  21. I have been thinking for a few years that the day may come when I feel that I am a skilled enough hunter to leave my gun at home. But after weeks of seeing deer just out of range and thinking "if I only had my rifle" I drop my bow for the rifle opening day still..lol
  22. Nice!... I killed a 7,8,9,10, and another 8 out of the same tree between Nov 9-11 different years. I think the same doe came in heat every year at the same time and led them past my stand... Worked 5 years in a row, I never stepped foot into this spot until Nov 9-11. I think someone killed my doe because it hasn't worked for 4-5 years now...damit...lol
  23. Great Scott!! A lotta nice bucks here..
