  1. Ya..lol its been a while I actually lived in Salisbury in NW corner..lol...good luck!
  2. I lived in the NE corner of Connecticut for a year or so. There were deer everywhere. Of course I didn't hunt at that time. I've been thinking of going back for some hunting. Wich part of Connecticut do you hunt?
  3. Just like the local raccoons. They do much of the damage and the deer get blamed for it..lol I watched a family of coons knock down a whole corner of a standing cornfield during a week of bowhuntiing(dam things wouldn't come within bow range). I've never seen a deer knock too many stalks down.
  4. Every year I say to myself that I am going to get some serious hunting time in. Being self employed you would think this would be possible..lol.. hasnt worked out in my favor for the past few years. Even though I don't get the time in I want I am sure I still get more than most. Those fall days in the woods every year keep me sane..
  5. No. ... For any given spine arrow... The longer the arrow the weaker the spine... Either way the arrows are close enough that it is highly unlikely that they are having any noticeable( esp..for a beginning archer) effect on accuracy.
  6. Some good advice on this thread(some..lol).Correct draw length is probably one of the most critical aspects that guys have mentioned..without that nothing else is right. It may work but it makes your job tougher...wingspan devided by2.5 usually gets you close.. I know , years ago when I went from. 29" to a correct 27.5" my groups went from paperplate size at 30 to 4" practically overnight.
  7. I'm not sure if I missed it or not. If you are keeping your shots to under 20 yds. I would recommend 1 pin..kis.. left out the second s lol..I would think, even a slower bow and or heavy arrow will shoot down a 5" pipe to 20 yds. Sight it in so its 2.5 " high at 10 and it'll be 2.5" low at 20..the deer will never know the difference. Put some branches or flags out at 20 yds from your stand. Then as long as the deer is inside the "kill zone" he is dead meat .no estimating ranges just put pin on vitals and shoot. Imo this makes one less thing to worry over or misjudge during the exitement of seeing and shooting a deer. Oh yeah take Mike up on his offer. He's alright..I guess.lol...Good luck!
  8. As long as you are not too attached to any of the trees and brush around the pond, let them stay. Jr is right it does not look too much feed for a beaver family.
  9. WAG...125 gross, because of lack of points?
  10. Nope..If it did, I would have 8-10 B&C bucks to my credit...And I don't....lol..nice buck , none the less ,I would be proud to shoot him in NY state.
  11. Sounds interesting..I have been thinking of doing an early season out of state hunt one of these years.
  12. That looks great...where is that ?? Send me the exact GPS coordinate.......lol.jk Looks like a lot of hardwork paid off . Hope it pays off with venison too.. When you broadcast the corn , did you drag something back over it to cover seed in soil a little?
  13. I am not sure about all the wasted meat comments.Accidents occasionaly happen but if shot behind the shoulders there is very little wasted meat.
  14. We use one of cabelas heavy duty deer carts on our annual trip to Letchworth sp. It works great .except for the hills that you cannot walk up ..lol.4 of us hunt together .we have strapped 2 larger deer to a cart and wheeled them out. 2 people pulling ,one pushing ,and one carrying all the weapons. The back person just lifts up the back when you come to obstacles that you cannot roll over.
  15. I do not shoot deer past 40 yds (95% of the time).but my standard practice distance is 65 yds. I find this give me lots of confidence at the shorter distances.A 20-30yd shot seems like a chip shot now..lol
  16. Congrats on the new land..Remember the corn maybe gone..come hunting season.. In recent years I have grown a lot more confident in using aerial photos..and topo maps..deer love edges and corners, give or take 50 yds...edges of swamps, fields ,woods, hills ,hollows,etc..... If you see a spot on a map where more than one of these features intersect .Put a stand there..Playing the wind of coarse.
  17. I love my 300 win. Mag. I have not ever had a deer go more than20 yds ,with 98% falling in its tracks.. I shoot 150 grains in mine..( I think more along the line of O'Connor?) And the kick isn't bad ..Still not a gun for the recoil shy though.
  18. Most of these stone walls are farmer built.Once upon a time field edges. The CCC planted a lot of farm land into pine plantations in their time.
  19. I know you said no electric, but what about one of these...http://www.lowes.com/pd_386797-83-GEH50DEEDSR_4294763899__?productId=3664968&Ns=p_product_avg_rating|1&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNs%3Dp_product_avg_rating%7C1&facetInfo= ........holy long link, batman
  20. X2 ...I would do this. Get a higher end bow for the same price. If it were me I would give one of the Elites a serious look. Lifetime warranty .Does not matter if you are the original owner or the 5th. And no I do not own or sell elites ..lol..
  21. No,no, I mean the exact address..lol..jk. ..hope he is still out there .
  22. Lets ban cantaloupes .. They killed more than 30 people last year. The list of things we could do to make our lives and our children's lives safer is endless...But at what cost ?? I know I absolutely will not feel any better about sending my little girl to school after an assault rifle ban or a ban on large capacity clips has been passed.
