I always buy everything just to have that antlerless only tag available during bow, free dog tag for any area for archery! esp when they don't issue them in your area.

I hit a doe one with the car, laying in road with. Broken legs, waited over 30 min for troopers to show up to dispatch it. After 10 min i got a 20 ounce hammer from trunk and took care of it. When they showed up i told them it died, and got my tag for it.

Earliest I've found sheds is Jan 4the, but I have shot bucks who had lost antlers in muzzloader season...
-
well at least the state gets your licence money....

Seemed most activity was at night this year as it was so warm.. seeing single bucks now.with no does. And they are finally moving into standing corn with 10 inches of snow on ground.... bad weather (warm rainy) and super mast crop were much bigger factor in sightings this year than the rut was.;

Often at closer ranges the slug is at max velocity, causing it to flatten or break apart rapidly. Active slugs were notorious for this esp the one ounce. 1 1/4 ounce were much better. You will get better penetration at slightly longer ranges. I've see it happen with muzzleloaders as well. Brenekees are great slugs but there are many varieties out ko, original, magnum, gold plate. I have seen original go thru trees with no deformation and kill deer behind them, I have had ko not exit same as your.slugger problem.

Yes, tsi is a way to go but you have to have specific goal in mind, and it needs to be done at certain times to allow regrowth/suckering. Aspen/poplar should be cut in winter an almost clear cut to allow light to hit ground. It will sucker and sprout from stump and roots, great browse for deer and grouse. Cut every tree over . Four Inches in diameter to allow suffient regrowth in a few acre cut, leave the tops !!!

Best thing is if low harvest numbers continue, lots of carry over buck (and therefore older and bigger next year!! ). Natures own AR program..warm weater and heavy mast crops!!

Pressure is always a factor, i'm sure weather is to a lessor degree, you need 600 plus acres just to hold a doe family group wholely with in your own property. so head to thick places or create them and make it a sanctuary (dont go in it or push it or shoot into it) thick areas close to high carb food will be the ticket with large amount of snow, and daylight movement will increase as they can soak up the sun while looking for food using less energy(heat loss), hunt close to but not in the bedding areas for good shooting light. unless your a lot better at sneaking in and scent control than a deer is entering a bedding area is a no no imo. unless your driving deer....

alway take a pic without a hunter in it or licence plate showing in road kill with grain of salt, keeps expectations real..

Seeing good numbers and good sized bucks but not herded up like they usually are. deer are scattered and hold tight to thick cover. So much food available within 100 yards or closer to where they are bedding that they arent moving much. doing well at camp so far 3 buck and 4 doe. with lots of missed shots and now dead trees!! lol. I dont think numbers are down just not where they usually are in groups. been warm and no hunters moving around. perhaps will be moving better and herd up by thanksgiving as large amount of snow expected.

yep fun way to hunt, but like said need a pretty big piece to do it all day.

hunted it for turkey, never deer, but never saw other hunter there in over 10 years turkey hunting

I just go out till cold 1.5 Hours or so. Then head in get warm and get back out before everyone else gets cold...its not the cold that get deer moving its the cold hunters moving around getting the deer moving. Go out when most are headed in...works for me over 20 years now.

Measure beam tip to nose and beam tip to nose before removing antlers, best way to get horn ppositioned the same way I know of.. good second mount.

I always wonder where the person is that shot it or why someone else there would not be in the pic... like the trophy roadkills/harvest that pop up every year.. If I hit it iI would be in the pic, and never licence plates in view either... I couldn't lift a 400 lb bear last year with 5 guys 3foot off the ground let alone hold in place to strap it. Took all we could to roll it into bucket of the tractor.. just doesn't add up to me.

Ask the landowner what they want, then be polite about it. Posted sign on their stand, if you happen to see them just find out who they are first, may be the neighbor who owns 3x that amount of land, be sad to kick someone off only to have your deer run on their own property and be unretrieveable as now they have grudge against you. It can be hard to do when emotions are running high. Neighbor did that to a guy that owned land that surrounded his on two sides, guy was " cutting the corner" to get to his stand, booted him and lost a nice buck when it ran onto guys land and he was booted off.... just something to think about.

Most judges won't go after subsistence farmers... all you can do is make your property the most attractive to game and post the crap out of it and file charges every time you catch someone on it.. had a friend who's fish were all taken (Amish by the buggy tracks) dropped a tree across the road they were using(old abandoned Rd used and kept clear as logging trail.) Posted it up and caught a couple...no more problem and fish slowly coming back.

Here is the thing ... random hunter chosen, only a small percentage return. Would be better if you had to fill out mandatory before purchasing licence. Then and only then will the silent apathetic ones be heard. Forums like this are usually attended by " die hards " or want to be "die hard newbies" same as in crossbow, the vocal minority is heard because they are active. Does a nothing resp once = in favor of or against?? Just as in all politics ...the squeaky wheel gets the grease.......

Sounds like he had bad day... did you call local police and give them info? They can investigate and get DEC to follow up...
