most loggers do tsi for timber, leaving more valueable timber trees, cutting aspen in summer will kill it, it is a no value timber tree but very high value wildlife tree, cutting or hinge cutting in winter will encourage cloning and sprouting, you really need to develop an overall management plan, timber value is great but i like my hunting more than a big paycheck every 10-20 years... done correctly i get the best of both worlds

political correctness, lawyers, downfall of america for sure, they make new laws every year but do we need them? parents can disapline your own kids, i remember strangers telling us to stop when we were doing things bad, seems like the single parent family started at the same time the rest of the pc took hold.... family values and wait till your father gets home were what ran the world i grew up in.... i feel bad kids cant experiance life riding a bike without a helmet, yes i wiped out and did jumps and so did everyone else i knew, skun knees and road rash were expected. i dont know how or why laws start or actually pass, maybe we just need a whole new government..... one based on common sence...

never timed myself but i can have whole deer skun, cut and ground ready for freezer in an hour. that what matters if you skin fast and butcher slow or have hair all over what good is it?

nope, i've had them duck and turn to run and hit them there..never by choice

under oak, its acidic. prolly 4.5-5 lime it the closer the level is to 7 the better the nutrients are absorbed and more attractive to deer/game it becomes.. 1/4 acre i do 400 lbs minimum without a soil test, soil test will still prolly tell you to add more... and now is time to do it. you can do soil test in spring and add to it if you need to then...

i'd lime the heck out of it before planting any clover... lots and lots of lime....white is preferred i prefer wi clover it does draw better than any other.

i shot 3 deer with powerbelts this year and deer went 10 yards 10yards and flopped. a 45 or 50 cal hole thru the lungs will leave blood and a dead deer. even with no expansion. remember muzzloaders are a lower velocity and pistol bullets and jacked bullets wont expand. pure lead is way to go no matter what the brand type of bullet...

loose powder over pellets as pellet grain is wildly in accurate, your gun may shoot the best group with 90 or 85 or 95 grain..cant do that with pellets..... thats a fast twist and there are many good bullet/sabot combinations available for it. rule of thumb your burning all your powder when u hear a sharp crack...you'll know when u hear it. i have 7 guns that shoot different charges and bullets accurately some only take 70 grains, one takes 95, another only 55 . practice and trial and error start low 50 grains and work up by 10 or 5 grain increments untill you hear that sharp crack!! embers and flames at low light mean to much powder.... i have found that once sighted in at 50 yards a 5 grain increase makes my bullet hit 1 in higher than sighted in. 150 to 200 yards is possible with a well tuned gun 1.5 in groups at that range are common. have fun!!

Mike the Dec now oversees pollution, marine and terrestrial end enforcements. Its duties are more than that of a game commission meaning and entity put in place by constitution to enact, protect game and fish only. Much like pa. The polititions are removed from voting on something they know nothing about. A separate entity in charge of only game and fish protecting the right to hunt by constitutional law, not a board that recommends things to senate and representatives hoping they pass it. The monies for this are raised thru Robertson pitman funds and licence sales. We could have more game wardens and biologists not being stifled by monies from the state. Our funds won't be going to replace coal boilers in large cities but instead spent on game and fish. While a citizen group can make recommendations much as the conservation council now does.

I've done quite a bit of paleontological work 25years plus on digs from dinosaur to ice age and historical archeology sites and it is a hip , pics aren't good enough to pick up feature needed for identification, but it is canine.

It all has to do with placement a high shoulder shot isn't going to leave good blood

The big problem is we have no right to hunt in this state, and no game commission, we don't even have a deer season or any season next year till its voted upon, we need to push to get the right to hunt put in NY constitution and then split the Dec into a game commission that has power to set the seasons, weapons used, and amount and type of game. We ignore this but the day is comming when all the liberals in the state will be in power and bam...all our hunting and fishing will be gone, and it won't come back....

I have several sanctuary's,5-30 acres they do allow deer to hide and not move, but I go for quality and quantity or as i call it total deer management! , we average 15 -18 deer a year off my place usually 10 doe in that number rest buck. Not having a sanctuary and plots and general habitat improvements we would not take half that number. 366 Deer now in.21 Years of owning the property and improving it. This doesn' t include the deer the neighbor kills as well, he is impressed enough with size and health that i get to plant almost 30 acres of his land adjoining mine for free. It benefits both of us, his group takes 5-8 deer a year as well. As for sneaking in to hunt them why? They come out for food, water, and just looking for doe. Bedding areas are different for buck and doe. I enjoy the hunt an take a good one now and then, i am by no means a trophy hunter I just enjoy scouting and hunting and seeing the next generation start out right!

fine with me i hunt primitive anyway.. id rather see our seasons split up by at least a week maybe 2 of no hunting between bow and gun and muzzleloader.shorten bow and regular season to make it happen..seems like no one hunts after first 2 weekends anyway

deer in my experiance are up all night using moonlight feeding, i've seen the best movement on full moon days between 10am and 2 pm. just my own observation in 25 years of hunting. best advice get inthe woods and hunt tough to kill from inside the house! good luck!

i've done neighbors driveways especially my elderly ones, would feel bad if emergency services couldnt get in there to help them, the one old lady has her grandson bring over a case or two of beer as payment he usually does her drive but can be held up by work or other commitments and i dont want her to have to wait 2-3 days to get plowed out, i appreciate it but dont drink beer i accept it graciously... my friends benefit when they come over as its there cold in fridge waiting for them, and i dont have to buy any....lol

Best way I have found is by pictures, had a friend shoot a buck and took it to taxidermist and DEC, they both told him 2.5 Problem is i gave him the trailcam photos from prior year.and current year he killed it. So he simple lay them on table and said well these are from last year! Then the age went to 3.5

its hunted on and off as i have a lot of property, but it is hunted bow gun and muzzleloader. one year in 3 days of gun there were 6 gut piles under it ...lol deer keep walking thru. opening day my friend sat it and had his buck at 730am, put his son there at 3pm and he had his buck by 330. you dont have to hunt it hard the deer are always there a few hrs and you see deer .. just a question if its a good shot or if you want it.

my best stand(was replaced 1x already from portable to permant, and was rebuilt this year) has yielded 63 deer in 18 years 22 of them being antlered buck, it is a triple funnel, 2 natural movement and 1 pressure, sits at a convergence of 3 habitat types(swamp, hardwood, and apple brush) at the top of a ravine. is now a permanant stand 22 feet high between 2 trees. is both an effective gun and bow stand.

CCI 209 primer is too hot... try a 777 primer or Remington. The primer is actually ejecting the bullet before the powder burns.. causing a air pocket which allows the crud ring to build in it.
