  1. yep talk to some old timers, know more ways to kill stuff than i thought possible..only one thought goes thru my head....Not to piss them off i doubt my body would ever be found if they were so inclined....
  2. will go this afternoon and sat. doing drives this weekend. lots of guys should be fun! not much snow at my place maybe 2 inches on ground, not worried about general snowfall they are calling for..weatherman are always wrong when i comes to weather by me. was calling for 9-14 in during the week got 2... wish i could be wrong all the time and keep my job....
  3. Have a scope on one, a tang peep sight on another, williams sights on another and buckhorn on 2 others. I've taken deer with all of them, but snowy days and drives see the buckhorn sight guns going out, while nice clear days on standing corn sees the scope getting used or the great plains with tang peep,. deer drives the 2 pistols end up going, one modern one with williams sights and one kentucky pistol with buckhorn..
  4. i'm stuck at 5 unless a new weapon option becomes available..a spear season would be nice!
  5. Sponges stuffed in natural sausage casing, rolled in bacon grease. bite size .swallow them whole. cant pass sponge=dead coyote. most antifreeze is safe now...
  6. A good season for me is getting everyone at camp an opportunity at a deer, bow and gun. as for getting a deer for myself its not hard i have always gotten multiple deer(benefit of living where i hunt)but to get a trophy buck/bear is a great season.
  7. gallon of gas and a road flare..... just sayin..
  8. Why are you passing doe? They are good practice and mighty tasty.. my brother did what you did for years waiting for buck with bow, finally convinced him to shoot a doe, now he takes a deer buck or doe just about every year he hunts with bow. If you buy your muzzleloader tag at beginning of bow you get an anterless tag valid anywhere in the state, get a doe and keep hunting for that buck on your either sex tag!! Get a few doe kills under your belt and you will be come a much better hunter and more confident as well!
  9. doesnt sound bad to me , lot of learning experiance there, apply it to next year.
  10. deer seem to hold up for first 24 hrs after a heavy snow, after that they reopen trail and feed. look for thermal cover, last 3 days deer have been herding up in thermal cover by me, and have moved into the standing corn.
  11. i had a problem years ago, pilled logs 6ft high out by road(scotch pine) that were useless a nice natural fence that you cant see over, and letting a neighbor hunt (parking a car in drive and making tracks in and out of drive) seems to have stopped 90% of it.
  12. well knowing that the mast will be way down from this year, beech, red oak ,hickory ar cyclical. i will concentrate on late season , field corn and purple top turnips. clover fields were planted last fall so just mowing maintance for them this year.
  13. If mixed with pork toss it. Pork fat doesn't freeze.. only good 6 months, if mixed with beef fat or pure venison, it will be good indefinatley if vacuum sealed properly. Or 2-3 years if not frostbit.
  14. Well, had. 2 Doe taken last Friday and sat of gun season, and.3 Bucks one Monday a nice. 8pt, two today a five point and a 1/2 rack 6pt. Today. Deer are all herded up, 2 inches of snow made for good walking/tracking. Looking forward to the weekend.
  15. I would bet the bulled is buried in the back leg near a leg bone.. .. you'ld find it when butchering for sure if you did it yourself...
  16. Got my response from one I took last year.. This week. Must of had money for stamps...lol
  17. Never have seen a tick on my deer, keds yes lots of them.. most people think keds are ticks..they aren't . Learn to tell the difference! Deer lice known as keds are usually in the leg/shoulder areas.but can be anywhere.6 legs instead of 8.
  18. I agree 16 to 18 is about the norrmal for inside. over 18 is getting wide. 24Inside is widest i've seen with decent beam llength being important to me as well. Some magazines show a 30 in wide buck but beams are only 20 in , looks like some one with their arms spread wide... iI like to seem them wide but with long enough beams to curve back in!
  19. csx.com is hiring..check frequently.. lots of jobs in different departments and cities...
  20. younger deer in general 1.5 and .5 year olds are just inexperianced. point dont matter its age.
  21. wasnt a bad year for myself, almost tagged out now. have a antlerless only tag left. the mast this year was unbeliveable, beechnuts, hickory, acorn, chestnut, walnuts, and apples and pears galore. the deer never had to move at all to get food and literally bedded under apple trees in brush. the foot of snow made them move to the standing corn for a few days, its gone and deer are again living and sleeping next to food everywhere.... a walk revield where a doe n fawn never left a 50 yard area for 3 days (beds and droppings everywhere there) never would of moved if i didnt kick them out of their beds i think. the traditional stand sites werent productive as food and cover is plentiful where i hunt. i much prefer a poor mast year for hunting as all the deer will go to limited food sources. and thus movement is greatly increased. the deer are here as there were hundredes in the fields last spring. they just didnt have to travel or search for food.
  22. Def loosen the straps, and check with help every year replacing way is nessary..
  23. Well face it.2 Or less game wardens in the county.chance of you getting ticket for anything 1-1000 Thats why tresspassing/baiting,poaching, illegal harvest happens all the time... your chance of getting caught slim to none... i think everyone on this forum knows of or has seen game laws violated.... not enough enforcement. Thats why its sad when a hunter stops a checkpoint and get a ticket for improperly tagging/filling out tag. He didnt know he did anything different than anyone else but basically turned himself in...most violators seem to be the unwhittingly turned yourself in if you read the cuff n collars section of outdoor news.
