  1. No, I have not. I use the 30-06 with 180 Nosler Partitions for elk. I have buddies that use the 7mm-08 on elk and swear by it though. BTW, I gave up reloading a long time ago. All my ammo is factory these days. The caribou in my ID photo to the left was shot with a 7mm-08 120 TTSX as was my second bull on that trip.
  2. I use the TTSX in my 7mm-08. Go light for caliber on deer, i.e. 120's in the 7mm-08 and save the 140's for elk. I have no experience with either in my 30-06. Still using Partitions there. Good luck.
  3. Matilda Cuomo should have been precluded from procreating. Andrew and his loser brother, Chris should have both been tied up in man balloons and flushed.
  4. I spent 3 full weeks at camp and didn't see a single piece of bone. It snowed so much, I couldn't still hunt because the powder was so slippery and our property is very steep. Managed a big lone doe on my last day at camp with a .300 Savage 99 that I picked up the day before I left Florida for the trip north. Was very pleased with that. So, no buck this year, but at least I put some meat in the freezer. Congrats to all who harvested a deer and better luck next year to those that didn't.
  5. I've never seen an Old Fashioned that red. Mind if I ask your recipe?
  6. Just hate dealin' with those maggots. They make my skin crawl.
  7. Plus they should be publicly humiliated. Make them wear a sign stating their offense while making them scrape gum off the sidewalks downtown on their hands and knees.
  8. I absolutely detest game law violators. Just as despicable as lawyers and furniture salesmen.
  9. They should make very public examples of these steaming piles of dog sh*t. Splash their pictures everywhere. DEC has a section in the hunting compendium that shows ECO's and their efforts during the year. Why not also display photos of all the perps convicted so everyone, including those in their community, can see and shame them.
  10. Gatco diamond system at 22* followed by a strop with two different compounds, one on each side. Hair poppin'
  11. .530 Hornady round ball and .015 Ox Yoke wonder patch over 85 gr 777 in a Cheney Rifle Works .54 cal Elkhunter. Set in motion by a CCI cap on a Hot shot nipple.
  12. Three in the freezer is just about right to see me and my wife, and occasional dinner guests, through the year.
  13. I do the same, only in a crock pot. Hold the foil. I also add carrots, celery and button mushrooms.
  14. I'd be long gone before there was a viable hunting population. Having said that, sure why not? The more biodiversity, the better. After all, they were once indigenous.
  15. I remember as a kid, reading that article. I held on to that issue of Sports Afield for years.
  16. "So how do you determine who is better then who at deer hunting" Is this a serious question?
  17. Probably just as many as there are ways to skin a cat. Not that one is right and another is wrong. But, I always dissolve a handful of salt in a gallon of water and use wads of paper towels to swab out the cavity then dry well with more paper towels.
  18. This is always very sad news. So sorry for your loss. I guess we've all been there...some more than once.
  19. We do the same at my club/camp. I usually make beef short ribs one night. For my second night I make breaded chicken cutlets with peas and rice , and a gravy of one can cream of chicken and two cans of cream of mushroom combined. Others make veal cutlet parm, stew, Sauerbraten, Roast beef, BBQ venison, baked 1/2 chickens.....Plus there's always a big Crappie fish fry Friday before opener. We sure don't starve.
  20. Any recommendations on a good meat grinder that won't break the bank? Has anyone ever used a KitchenAid with the grinder attachment? If so, what are your impressions?
  21. BM7600, I really like that gun. I've been looking for an early '60's example with diamond checkering in 35 Rem to cut back to 18". Curious about the performance with the 16" barrel.
