WNYBuckHunter
Larry and WNY - stop with the common sense. No room for it in a crossbow discussion. ;D Sorry Steve, my bad ;D
WNYBuckHunter
I guess the crossbow issue is even bigger than the AR issue ??? imagine how popular it would be if we discussed shooting spikes with a crossbow....not wearing orange....and being 12 years old Now THAT sounds like a traffic generating thread if I ever heard of one! nyantler
How about this... there are nearly 200,000 bowhunters in NY... about 2000-3000 of which are members of NYB.... there are 0 crossbow hunters in NY (well until this upcoming season) and the NYS Crossbow Hunters Assoc has been around since the 90's... without any crossbow season in NY. All they would need is 1 member and their % of membership would be higher than NYB. Just a thought...

BizCT
Nevermind, I found everything. No course needs to be taken. Just print out a form, sign it, and carry it. Just have to buy the Late Season ML license. Crossbow Hunting--In addition to the requirements for all hunters, to qualify to hunt deer or bear with a crossbow, the applicant must read the qualifications and sign and carry the certificate in Crossbow Hunting Qualifications and Certificate (PDF 91 kb). biggamefish
I don't care if crossbows come in but they shouldn't be in bow season. It goes back to the whole shouldering it and being able to put a scope on them. I agree with the above that we should not be standing with the anti hunters that makes us as a whole look bad. There is a place for crossbows in hunting season. They are a ethical hunting implement they just need a spot in a hunting season.

pointman
I have been listening about the pros and cons of the use of crossbows in the archery season for some time now. All I have to say for my 55 years of hunting is "For those who object get you heads out of the sand" Welcome this weapon into the fold. If this weapon is not for you so be it but don't make decisions that effert others who would like to hunt with it. Just my opinion.
