For all you non-believers in Antler Restrictions

Recommended Posts

Here is a whopper Pennsylvania buck. A salesman came by the farm today- looked at his trail cam pics more than his products. Maybe he should be selling lottery tickets to hunt his spot instead. Easy 170 if not knocking on 180. How do you like antler restrictions now?

Is is me or is there something white on the ground and maybe a mineral block in the picture too. Seems like there must be something that is bringing all them deer to that spot, as there are alot of trees around, but what food source would they be eating in the woods right now, not much just in the fields eating. This is PA, it might be legal their to put out bait before season. I like trying to find just the right spot for my trailcam and seeing what I get.It is almost like hunting with out the kill.

Nice buck, for sure.  However, maybe its due to antler restrictions, but maybe the buck is just smart and keeps out of sight.

Not a big fan anyway as I know a handful of young hunters who want nothing more than to shoot a buck but can't because they are not allowed to take the fork-horn they see due to antler restrictions.  Or how about the old-timer, who will not make another hunting season.  Should he not be allowed to enjoy the thrill of the kill one last time because he can't shoot that 6 pointer?

Seems to take away from why hunting is so special for most of us in the first place.  To be out there and exeprience the thrill of taking the animal you want, not the one the law mandates you take.

I'm all for big deer, but they are always there.  Maybe not as many, but they are there,  antler restrictions or not.  You just have to work harder for them.  Doesn't that make it more special than just having an easy time of it?

I dunno.........

I don't anywhere near 180"

AR are great in PA.  They can keep them.

How many big bucks do you want to put on the wall?  I like to hunt, kill, butcher and eat.

Don't try and tell anybody that's paying for a hunting license that they can't shoot any buck they want.

First thing you said was that the guy was a salesman.  So do you think he is just trying to sell you something by befriending you.  Maybe he is a super hunter trying to get ar's passed?  Hummmmm questions questions.  Just because a guy says that they are pics from the ar area doesn't mean they are!!

Your in western NY and from what I here you dont need them.  What if you got them in your area? What would you do then?  Break the law cause you want to shoot whatever you want?  There are laws for everything even the amount of deer we are allowed to shoot.  Dont think there are no regulations on hunting.

As for how many bucks do I want to hang on my wall?  As many as can fit.  When I run out of room I buy A bigger house.

You are probably right, nevertheless when you become tired of shooting basket racked 2.5 year old deer after high grading has been completed you probably will become a proponent of additional restrictions (beam width restrictions) in order to fill the empty wall space in your home. Keep California dreaming!

There is no proof of hygrading anywhere. This theory that you read somewhere was written by someone that is a non believer like you.  To me its all a bunch of crap.  Your remark of Elitism is your jeoulosy talking and wasnt needed.  Who cares how many mounts I have.  Me being fortunate enough to do as I please is my business and noone elses.  I love my 2 1/2 year old mounts.  If people like you would give me the opportunity to shoot older deer in the area I hunt I would, but you choose to shoot them as they are born.  Good luck having your button buck mounted.  Hope they have a mount small enough.  You can hang twice as many on your walls.

Yep I will keep California dreaming

Fairgame........

I'm not too worried about breaking any laws because AR aren't coming.  Don't be fooled by trail camera pictures.  Every year you see plenty of big old bucks on cameras then come hunting season they get pretty scarce.  Not like the tv shows around here.

If YOU want to hold out for a big buck, have at it.  The entire state holds great bucks, you just need to pass the little guys before you pull the trigger.

Lawdwaz,

Correct, But hunting in an area that has a high hunter numbers, most of the bucks were never getting older than 1 1/2.  I wish it could be that way and make it voluntary but that wasnt working in this area for many years.  I would hunt the entire season  and never see a buck over a four pointer. Thats why I dont like the voluntary thing.  For me its not only the meat its the rack to.

There's always been big bucks in Pa. and there always will be. A couple pictures of big bucks is not what I would call proof that Antler Restrictions work. Don't mean a thing. I could show you pictures of bigger bucks from Pa. before AR's. Does that mean AR's don't work?

That's just anecdotal evidence at the best. But whopper bucks, nonetheless.

+1  No they aren't coming and it wouldn't surprise me if they were eliminated from the several areas where they are in effect also.  A good many hunters in those units can't even get a doe permit and then are told that they can't kill a buck unless it's 3 points on one side.  This won't swing for long, this I can assure anyone!!

Well, those are some nice PA bucks. But it just proves that that guys camera works.

I would agree with a couple of points made here; good size bucks are here, i've seen them, even around state land. And yes you need a good food source(s), food plots are perfectly legal. Yet some retailers like CT refuse to sell plot seed. I think the DEC should make something official about it, instead of just outlining an exception. And then I agree voluntary AR fails. And I don't think NY will do mandatory AR either.
