scoped guns and tree stands

I hunt on and off through he gun season from tree stands. This is my first year with a scoped gun. How do you guys get you gun out of the tree without always laying it on the ground scope first?

I unload my gun and lower it with a pull up rope . I try to get it so the barrel rests against the tree or on a rung to the ladder stand . If I can't manage that , I keep the gun upright , lower my backpack and then get my rifle / shotgun to rest on that . I don't want to get the scope crapped up .

That's what I do. My rope stops high enough so my bow or rifle dangles in the air.

I never had a problem with a rope long enough to let the Unloaded rifle with a scope down and lie on the ground.Just do not drop it down.Same way up nice and easy.So it does not hit anything.

I have a neoprene scopecoat that I put on my Leupold scope so it doesnt get banged up or any debris on the lenses when I use my climber and lay my rifle on the ground.

Just make sure that the rope is securely tied to the gun when lowering or lifting it otherwise you'll have a broken stock like mine

I wrap my scope up in a cotton diaper with a bread bag around it so no harm comes to it.

Seriously, Im just careful and dont dunk it in any water. Little bit of dirt, etc is easily cleaned off.

hum I put a beer koozie over my bow sites while going up and down.... breaking a fiber optic pin is no fun when your at a deer camp.

I use a climber most of the time so I sling my gun (unloaded) across my back to climb up and down. But I think that as long as you lower and raise the gun gently it should be fine. Same with your bow.

I'd send you koozie but they are for slooooooow drinkers and I don't have any on hand.

Make sure you have a real good knot on that haul rope or you'll look like a big ass........

pull up rope stops about 4' above the ground. pound a nail in the tree and keep tension on it to prevent the rope from being tangled when not in use. Honestly though i throw the gun sling over crossed over my chest and climb the 30'. use the pullup for my bow

Don't tie a knot. For my bow anyway, I use nylon decoy line. Tie spring loaded "C" clips ( like the ones used on the end of a dog leash) on each end of the line and shrink the knot with a flame. You will never have a problem.

clip the end off a coat hanger and tie it to the pull up rope. its perfect.
