Rage Chisel tip

For the past few years I've used the rage titanium. But they discontinued them. So I picked up a pack of the chisel tip(2 blade) how do they work and I've had some mixed feeling about using rages because of all the horror stories about them. Some guys swear by them and some guys won't even acknowledge their existence. Why is that and for what reasons?

I tried out the rage titanium last year, I did not like how easy they opened up in my quiver. They fly great and I'm sure will do good damage, however I just have more confidence in my nap thunderheads.

I use the Chisel Tips.  They dont seem to open in my quiver.  The foam in my quiver is notched for 3 and 4 blade broad heads...I just line up the closed blades with the corresponding notches in the quiver foam, and push in just enough until I feel snug.

 

If you feel the o-rings arent enough, the Rage come with the orange shock collars that are designed to hold the blades a little more than the o-rings.

 

I've taken 2 deer with the chisel tips...I'm open to other brands too...I would like to try the Grim Reapers, and I have heard good things from them too.

 

I think most times you'll hear negative feedback is mostly someone who has had an actual bad experience with a product and just holds a grudge, and its understandable.

Have been a rage 2 blade fan for years till last year I started seeing problems in Quality of the heads

I purchased 2 packages of Chisel tips this year (Bass Pro)  the ones in the package that are deployed I could not get the blades to close further inspection the notch that holds to the O-ring were machined off so they will never close 2 of the remaining 4 the blades did not open/close freely

I have since tossed them in the trash (Contacted Rage w/ no reply yet) Purchased the G5 Havocs

although I still have my old Rage 2 blades

Just my .02, but check out the NAP killzones.  no o ring, no shock collar. a much better design in my opinion

The killzones are the only broad head i will use and they are really reliable to use.  i feel like the rages open up to easy in the quiver unless you buy the quiver designed for the rages.

I shoot nothing but the Rage 2 blade... with that being said the O-ring does stink and they do open easily in the quiver.  They do such damage though I can't stop shooting them, they have killed a lot of deer for me.  The fact that they open in the quiver doesn't really matter to me because I take the quiver off my bow in the stand.  I always knock an arrow when I first get into the stand and check the broad head ( make sure the blades are seated correctly in the O-ring and the broad head is on tight).  I am sure there are others out there that are as good or better but I don't want to change something that has worked so well for me

I was the same way but seems to me the quality has dropped had a lot of issues with the Noctrunal lighted nocks when they took them over

fitment issues & not lighting. Now I am seeing quality issues in the broadheads It kills me to move from the Rage as I have never had a bloodtrail better then the Rage but I just don't trust them at this point

Gfdepudty I moved away from Muzzy this year, seemed like a slight drop in material quality once Rage bought them out.

I've thought about using the kill zones but from things I've read and seen they look like they don't have great penetration. Id love to try them.

Forgot Rage bought out Muzzy sounds like they maybe getting to big for their own good

I rather use mechanical broadheads. I am trying the Havoc's but may pick up a few others to try

to many different heads out there & all seem to be 50/50 on reviews

I used them last year....I never took a shot on a deer so they are still brand new but I purchased some NAP killzones because I hated the way the Rage opened up so easily. They opened in my quiver, they opened while siting in my bow while hanging on the hook in the stand. I wondered if they would ever survive the flight staying closed so I am trying something different.

I have shot deer with the old rage heads and the chisel tips. I did hit a big buck with the older ones never recovering because I believe the shot was a bit forward and hit shoulder. With that being said the chisel tip did great last year. I believe a good shot with any head will put any deer down. I like the rage because of the damage it causes and short amount of tracking. I also believe the chisel tip has an advantage over the old razor tip because with a less than perfect shot it has a better chance of penetrating bone. Opening in the quiver does not scare me at all because I always nock an arrow and make sure it clicks into the o ring well. Sometimes I do feel like the o rings get a bit mushy and don't grab properly, replace those worn out or old o rings and you shouldn't have a problem.

I have had good luck with rage 2 blades. Just keep an eye on the o rings. I never had a problem with them opening in the quiver or not opening on deer. Im trying the Rage Hypodermics this year. I like the idea of a one piece, stainless steel  shaft with a chisel tip.

I hear good things about it. I was able to pick up 4 titanium for 40 bucks so I wont be thinking about new ones for a little.

no. and funny thing is all the mechanical haters I know bought a few 15 years ago and never tried them since. Or didn't like how they flew into a target.

 

I don't know. If your shot is good it wont mater. I find the chisel tip more forgiving for a poor shot. A real bad shot? Hard to blame the head, but hunters always will.

I have not had a single problem with the rage heads I will continue to use them. Everyone says the blades open on flight or open in the quiver. I've never had anything bad happen with them. And I say before people bash mechanical heads they to try one for themselves

Not Bashing mechanicals but but neither my father or I have had an issue with the fixed blade muzzy. Always seems like the most reliable

I understand where you're coming from. I shoot a fixed blade head as we'll and I love them

I used to shoot muzzy 4 blades. Nothing wrong but switched to rage for certain reasons. I acquired a bunch. Had great results. For a while I've shot the titaniums. Lord knows I wouldn't be if I had to pay remotely normal price for for them though. They're expensive!! ALL heads have trade offs but they all work. I think the hypodermic is a good one too. They work. No head on the market is complete junk so don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
