growalot
All week long...looks like I will be just checking stands clearing trails as much as I'm told I can.I have son coming Tuesday to help me fix a stand I have needed to fix all summer...my second best...and to install a new very very heavy 20ft ladder made from PT 2x6 rails and 2x4 rungs. I got one of them out and up by my self this late summer but I'd have to drag it by hand (no equipment room) twice as far as the one I put up...also need to get a 16" extension ladder down to repair a bracket before even attempting to enter stand ...I've shot several nice buck from it and a few doe...hoping that in a couple of weeks I get the OK to hit good stands...but I have ground blinds near it. I will double check with two of donation deer guys to see if they can handle warm weather deer before knocking another arrow...Observation time until temps go down...well unless I get a crack at a very large buck...which I'm doubting until the last week of Oct. not a lot of co-operation from the deer so far and my flubbing a shot due to forgetfulness... So what are you guys doing in the warmer weather?
landtracdeerhunter
I enjoy the mild temperatures. Get rid of the coveralls and go back to lighter gear again. With temps. getting in the 70's tomorrow, I may even pull a wooly.
Lawdwaz
I hunted this morning and at this point......(HAHA).............. ..am glad I didn't kill anything. It'd be a butchering day and I have other more pressing things to do. Like you said grow...its going to be a warm week and part of weekend I guess. Oh well, up until a couple years ago the season wouldn't even be open now!
landtracdeerhunter
Yes indeed, sure is nice out. Out in the shirt sleeves this morning. Beautiful red sky. The sailors must be taking warning.
Doc
Nice looking day, but I'm ready for a day off, and this is it. With 80+ degrees, I really don't trust that I can shoot, find and transport a deer without danger of spoilage. Yes if the deer leaves a bloodtrail that Ray Charles could have followed, it probably would work out ok. But I don't often have that kind of luck. So, things don't seem to be moving in this warmer weather here, and I have been thinking about taking a day off, and getting the lawn mowed and a few other chores that have been being ignored. Tomorrow sounds like pretty steady rain so Friday will be the next time out. I may do a bit of scouting today and whatever parts of tomorrow that are useable, to see what the heck is happening around.

thphm
Very windy here right now and 66 degrees, Just had 2 small doe walk past the house, very slow and cautious , was going to work on the new raised stand today, have 4x4 PT in the ground ,have to level up and start adding planks, just too windy to do by myself. Also do not need to have branches from the surrounding trees falling me.
philoshop
Moving firewood from the more remote stacks. Tractor maintenance and prep for the snow after that.
growalot
Well I grabbed the leaf blower after getting exercises done...They said if level I can try short times with leaf blower....well I picked the most level plot trail to use leaf blower on...mower got clogged up with sucking leafs into the engine. So until we buy screens to prevent that no more mowing trails...I found my first really fresh rub in two weeks...right behind the house 10 ft from a blind...I figured the dogs were barking at the deer half the night...and they were making enough noise to wake me...Well the games. on I moved leafs off every trail out there and even in one sunken turkey blind...to find deer droppings...so not sure if it's a deer bed or not...is it just urine that buck leave in their beds? I have to ice knee and rest then hit the plot trails across the street. This has made me realize just how important it is to keep trails clear to not spook deer. Someone said ..you can't be that quiet!...I said you most certainly can!....it takes patients, prep work, and deer knowledge but sneaking in on deer is possible...more than once it's gotten light with no noise in the woods from the time I sat to light and I look to see a deer bedded with in 15-40 yrds from where I was perched. Nomad
Great day! Walking the dog in t shirt cut the grass short to,let the wind handle my leaves, all the windows open, wonderful ! Got 3 weeks off coming up to hunt, although I'll hunt Fri AM then move a stand and trim around another .
NFA-ADK
My first year hunting buddy is getting depressed, I informed him that warm weather is not indicative of good deer movement and if he wanted that this weekend would be a good one to take off before the rut gets kicking. Personally I have a hard time staying home this time of year unless temps are in the 70 Degree and higher mark or a cold kicks my but or bad wind, excessive rain. The yard work is piling up! Glad your getting better Growalot!
the blur
The meat would spoil in a few hours. Especially that you are not supposed to kick up a wounded deer. Let them sit for a few hours until they bleed out. Not today !!!!!!!!
Doc
The meat would spoil in a few hours. Especially that you are not supposed to kick up a wounded deer. Let them sit for a few hours until they bleed out. Not today !!!!!!!! Can you imagine something going wrong and you get a gut-shot when they are calling for 80+ degrees? Oh yeah, along with that, yesterday the wind was doing a kind of hurricane thing. You have to look for those deer that are hugging the ground with their hooves dug into the dirt. By the way, I did get the lawn cut and carefully blew the leaves out of the yard. Before I was done, there were more leaves that had fallen all over the lawn than when I started. That worked well. Lawdwaz
Guys out west and down south have to deal with the heat too fellas. A little bloat won't hurt ya.......
sweet old bill
down south you kill it, gut it, skin it out and then put in a cotton deer bag so the flies do not get into the meat...some even put pepper into the body gut area to keep the flies away... get it home and cut it up the same day...no leaving it on a tree to age... Lawdwaz
Yup....before the sunsets they're on ice. Preparation is the key......
Doc
And if they have a gut shot to contend with and wait the prescribed 8 hours before even beginning the long difficult blood trailing in the 80+ degree temperatures, I wonder how many of them are simply left for coyote food when they finally find them .... lol
genesee_mohican
Working all week here, getting chores done and looking ahead to the weekend. The forecast calls for temps in the 30's Sat night and the 40's for Sunday, could be a good day to be in the woods eh?! Monday looks even better. Like Growie, I try to stay away from my best stands this time of year and save them for later on when the odds of a mature buck walking by goes way up. Going by the last few years here in my neck of the woods I figure there will be a few doe getting the bucks attention in another 10 days or so. growalot
It is crazy windy here!! All of the clover fields that were sprayed are now Brown. So deer have abandoned them. I figure all acorns and Apple's Will be on the ground by the end of this cyclone type action. I fear that these winds will send the turkey to lower ground before the season opens.I wouldn't want to try and roost here.
