Got to love New Yorkers shooting those small deer

Yea cause you have never shot one yourself...........

Deer hunting certainly is not all about size , I have shot many nice large bucks over the years and many small ones and I have fond, and sometimes better memories from the smaller bucks ...

I haven't tried to cook the horns yet but maybe you could shed some light on how the big horns taste over the little ones ....

Congratulations on your friends bucks and thanks for sharing the pics , I enjoyed looking...

Both of these hunters are relatively new to hunting and are trying to help with population control at the same time.  Size is irrelevant.  But I guess I should scold them and tell them they suck!  Right, WHAT are you doing shooting that?  Perfect encouragement.  LOL

They are meat eating population control hunters.  I salute the effort they put into shooting and congratulate their success and hope they continue.  You apparently have no clue about hunting on LI and the population issues and snipers they want to enlist to cull the population Huntings In My DNA.

I am a trophy hunter but I don't look down upon any hunter, we all hunt regardless of how or why, you should be a little more tolerant of others and enjoy in their success regardless if its a doe, spike or monster buck we all get the rush!

I could have passed up on the small buck one hour before sunset, but If I did, I would not have yet experienced:

Taking game of any kind;

Following a blood trail;

Dragging a deer out of a marsh;

Gutting a deer;

Dragging a deer back to my car;

Getting a deer butchered;

Vacuum packing 50 lbs of deer meat;

Cooking venison meals;

Preparing the antlers and partial skull for mounting.

You see, I did not grow up in a hunting family and am learning all of this for the first time at middle age.

Had this deer been a doe or a buck with a monster rack, I would not have learned any more or less than I did.

If hunting was really in your DNA you would realize that every hunter has different goals & different ways to hunt. I personally have been hunting for 28 years to this day I could give a rats A@@ about antlers or a 200# deer. the first legal deer I get a clean shot on will & does go down. As I have stated so many times before I am just as excited when I get a 100# doe or a 180# buck & when that feeling stops I will hang up the Bow & rifles!

NFA-ADK make sure they know it doesn't matter what anyone thinks every deer kill is a Trophy & they should be proud CONGRATULATIONS to both of them

These deer were shot in suffolk county Long Island. Last year we weighed in a doe at 58lbs. DEC did the aging at the Ridge station and told us it was a 1.5 year old doe.

My brother shot a 7.5 year old doe that was 90 lbs. They aren't the biggest deer in NY but taste just as good.

      New hunter to NY here. Found some public land to hunt, it’s a WMA. I wish I read the regs more thoroughly because I threw up a ladder stand yesterday and today when I was re-reading them, I saw you can’t put temporary stands on WMAs, only on state forests and other such state land. I honestly didn’t know I wasn’t allowed to, I even put my name and license # on the stand. I was going to go take it down tomorrow but it’s an hour drive so I wanted to ask, what do DEC officers do if they find a ladderstand like mine on a WMA? Is this an automatic fine or whatever? Will they just call me and tell me to come get it? Confiscate? How often do officers go through areas like WMAs and check for stands? Any info would be helpful. I’ll still probably go take it down tomorrow, although I have seen other stands up on the WMA, I just prefer to stay on the right side of the law myself. Thanks!

      Maybe im jumpin the gun a bit quick but.....
      As the 2019 deer season is coming fast and the live from the woods thread is going to light up like a christmas tree(better train this kid at work fast so i can follow up on all the deer porn)...The quickly approaching season has got new topics popping up and me getting antsy sooo......
      Is there anyone with a new approach to this years season different from the past?
      Different preparations for the season,etc.
      Accomplishment's/goals you are shooting for in the 2019 season?
      Shorter/longer sits etc.

      A few of mine..
      1.Prep by shooting as much as possible
      2.Spend as much time as i can in my "happy place"(always been my peaceful place)
      3.Get my first mount done so i can hang it on the wall at the first house(bare spot!)
      4.Get neccessary equipment for processing my own deer in the garage(needs a good cleanin before opening day!!)
      5.See the smile on Jay's(turkeyfeathers) face with his first bow harvest!!!!
      6.Be blessed and thankful to be able to spend time in the great outdoors.cherish every moment of the woods coming alive at day break(g/f doesnt understand it!!!)<<but im ok with that
      This year has flew by and season will be here before we know it.This post is a bit early but im pumped and ready for some woods time!!!!

      Hey Everyone! This is Louis Backlas/ Cross Over the River Outdoors. I just posted a new video to my YouTube channel that I though ya'll might get a kick out of! Have you ever used a decoy to hunt whitetails? If you haven't before you might want to start! I woke up one morning and look out my front window only  to find that my 3D deer target was in pieces all over the front lawn! A fired up buck decided to take his frustrations out on the target!  this took place sometime in November during the peek of the rut. Hope ya'll get a kick out of it!
