just a heads up for you guys who live on Long Island and consider using the slob Danny who owns Fish and Wildlife Unlimited Taxidermy in Oakdale, NY...this clown royally f'd up a simple European mount for me and was quite the unprofessional jackass about it..... here are some photos of the piece of crap he handed to me and and tried to pass off as a "work of art"............but it's ok, because as he told me, he can't do all the work himself, so he hires kids to help him out so it's their fault.........an absolute embarressment to taxidermists and an absolute pig

Those are all signs of over boiling the skull, the teeth will fall out and the thing layer of what ever it is that hold the skull plates together comes apart. I did... errrr i mean my friend did the same thing once.

I hear ya, a lot of us are capable of doing stuff ourselves and we deal with the outcome, good or bad,  when you pay someone who does it for a living you expect a positive outcome. Hopefully it doesn't tarnish the memories of a successful hunt to much.

Wow, I feel horrible. I had recommended him  and I have used him in the past for butchering and simple stuff and was happy but I don't know if it was Jerry who I dealt with. I will say something IF I go back there, I don't know if these fools are even aware of what the internet can do to your rep.

you can see how the "putty" or whatever they used is smeared up from the skull to the antler base.....and I actually gave them a tug and the fell off............you wanna see pictures of that mess?

no, I had a pissing match with him and asked he give them back as is with my money and he did.........I actually wanted them back as is even just to put the quality on the internet.

What a shame.  I also have a taxidermist nightmare story I can share but mine is from many moons ago...........

 

In 1982 I hunted Texas with some great friends.  It was my first out of state hunt and I sooo looked forward to it.  I killed the best buck of the hunt among the 6 of us that went.  He was only a fair 8pt but my biggest to date then.

 

When I got home I dropped the well taken care of cape and horns to a locally famous (boy do I hate to phrase it like THAT!) taxidermist.  

 

A year later I was the very disappointed owner of a POS Texas 8pt shoulder mount!  The cape was attached to form that was too big so a patch of hide was added to the spine area about two inches wide, from the start of the mount up to the back of the skull.  The nose, mouth and tear ducts looked to be packed with black shoe polish.  Ears were stuffed with cotton and the entire snout area was attached with flathead nails.   F'ing nice work dude!

OK.....I'm not into mounts but after seeing those pics, I believe you didn't make the name of the place big enough for guys to avoid.....I also didn't notice if you answered the question... You didn't pay for that did you? Because I'd be in small claims court...or at the least would have told him to shove that into a place the sun doesn't shine and go have any pics I did of the kill enlarged and framed.

 

Disregard the question. I see he gave your money back...

I used them on my last mount. The mount came out fine but it took them forever, which I guess is acceptable and expected up to a point. Problem is you are kind of limited as to where to go if you live "downstate" especially if you need to get it to a taxidermist within a certain amount of time. European mounts don't have those time constraints though. I'll have figure out something for the next one just out of principle.
