growalot
How I can Open my NYODN today and see a picture of a tiny boy over a turkey nearly as big as him...then read : Oliver Cromwell 6 of Orchard park shot this 21# turkey while hunting near Friendship with his dad. Who Needs a Hunting LicenseYou need a hunting license if you are: 12 years and older and using a firearm or bow to hunt or take wild game. Persons under age 12 cannot hunt. Junior Hunters (12-15): review regulations and information for junior hunters, ages 12-15. Additional Privileges/Permits: depending on the season and species you are hunting you may need additional privileges or permits. These are listed in the table above. Steuben Jerry
Big oops on the part of Oliver's dad. Actually two oops'. One for underage hunting/shooting, two for publicizing it!
sbuff
I didn't get my issue yet , does it say Friendship NY ? Could it possibly be out of state , not sure any state lets a 6 year old hunt.... Very interested to hear the outcome.

Very interested to hear the outcome. Some states do. Im guessing it will probably turn out to be a case of a misunderstanding with the way it was written. The kid was probably with his dad when his dad killed the turkey.

I'll be watching this.

(The Father) Biz ...that really isn't the point,at least for me. For me well it's a publication that encourages hunting and youth hunting. Now in hunting families where hunting kids will read this ...or at the least hit the bragging section...It sends a real bad message. Then putting your feet back in your younger self's shoes...picture waiting all those years to hunt legally with your dad. Then sitting there as he tries to re enforce following the hunting laws and ethics while a picture of a 6 yr old that reportedly shot a big ole turkey 6 years earlier than he was or you were allowed to...That's the point.

Bowguy 1
Maybe he was from Friendship NY n hunted out of state. Many have no age limit for hunting as long as parents agree. Could just be that

slickrockpack
if you pass hunter safety you should be allowed to hunt. why would anyone want regs limiting hunting
growalot
Not the point..regulations already in place...you abide by the laws. Don't like them..work to change them...
slickrockpack
fact is no one knows where that was shot, or if it was shot, could be roadkill or a bigfoot or cougar kill, seems that gets "reported" in NY all the time too, we don't know anything about this is the point...just what was "reported". If a reporter said it was daytime I'd go check for myself.
growalot
SRP...there you have it! Part of the point...In a NY hunting paper that reports the "trophy "pics sent in by hunters. It would behoove the reporters to get the relative information attached to photo correct. Now if this is correct they should either dbl.check with sender and not post an illegal activity ...or print with a note of importance knowing NYS hunting laws... slickrockpack
yepper, reminds me of the Vermont Trophy Fishing page someone sent me a few years ago from the VT website. It showed two guys from Brooklyn happy as clams holding up a mud covered bloody musky, the photo of which they entered into the trophy program.....the VT F&W had a note on the photo saying something to the effect that all musky must be returned Immediately unharmed to the water...people are silly.
