Just christened the new black widow bow on a doe.  Had to stand on the seat and shoot behind me.  Right though that little window in the middle of this photo:

not the plan but sometimes you have to adapt. Waiting a bit to get her as others are hunting.  But I heard the crash and moan so I am pretty confident.

I can't see pics says error, but Congrats!

I'm back in ..blk as ink this a.m., had to use lamp to get to stand..then 40 mins later I get snorted on my north west side...not good, but now know they are moving totally differently...at 8a.m. after the squirrels had entertained me since sun rise..and crows drove me crazy...I looked toward the house and cut corn field to see 6 deer filing across and right toward the house to feed on the overflow corn......Yep, they are still in the corn and the oaks..

Grabbed cards...nothing but a spike under one apple tree at 1:23a.m. So a morning ssw wind is no longer good for that stand. I now know where they are going to bed in the mornings...wind would have been good for that area in all 3 stands and two blinds... Things will be slow until the fields finally get sprayed with the manure...hate smell but there is just too much corn on the ground with this new crew /driver..

I've had a button, milling around me for 20 minutes or so. He seems very alert, ears going in all directions, eyes constantly scanning.. seems my sent is under control.
He's been within 10yrds. He was even eating the leaves off of some of my trimmings from the shooting lanes I opened last weekend.

Big doe down!!

I was off to a bad start this morning. I woke up late at 620. Good thing my stand is only a 100 yard walk from the garage.  Was up in the stand at 630. Jumped two does 60 yards from the stand on the way in. Needless to say I was pissed at myself for over sleeping as it's rare for me to do that.

Up in the stand all was quiet with no movement until 8 o'clock a bunch of fog rolled into the field and I caught movement 150 yards to my right on the field edge. 5 deer total were coming out and up along the edge of the field that I brush hogged right to my stand in the corner of the field. They came right to me and I made a 10 yard shot. Shot placement looked good but penetration was terrible!!  Half my arrow went in and stopped. Blood went flying everywhere though and she was pouring blood out as she ran all the way across the field and down into a thick nasty creek bottom.  I'm not sure why I didn't get good penetration but I am not impressed with these rage hypodermics from that shot.

Got a buddy headed up to help me find her and get her out.  Will post pics when I find her

Mechanicals on a light arrow are known for bad penetration. Some folk are moving to heavier arrows with brass inserts to compensate. I compensate by not using mechanicals  ;p

2 for 2 in of terms deer seen on sits. However, I was almost certainly winded this morning after just a few minutes. Despite prevailing winds, I think the topography around my 2nd go-to stand is creating swirls. The wind was all over the place and it looks like I had set up about 30 yards from a bedding area. There is a small Buck who haunts this spot and i think I roused him with my stink. He snorted a few times. Hung around for a while though and there was some doe off at about 80 yards. There was no immediate desire to flee but they all wandered off quietly in the opposite direction. Shame, this stand is surrounded by good, well used trails, but I may need to move it now .It was a lovely morning so I sat another hour but it was obvious the game was no longer afoot. Back for coffee. Thinking I might try my neighbors tonight. I was gonna save it for Tuesday morning. I have not been in all year, and decided to not put cams out there. I almost got a nice 8 there last year, but my scouting was too good. I ended up initially putting a stand right in the center of  a major corridor but with too few shooting angles. Stand is now off to the side. I have yet to do a morning sit in this new position. Exciting.

The doe i shot yesterday, I thought I had terrible penetration. When she ran I saw what looked like 3/4 of my arrow sticking out of her. After butchering last night turns out the arrow peat rated the shoulder blade and cut through the ribs opposite side but didn't get through the hide. I am shooting NAP killzone, 2 1/8" cut mechanical. When I cut up the meat tomorrow I'll take a pic of the shoulder it went through. Good luck on the recovery.

Good news, shot was perfect.  Very happy with the widow. Only made it 30yds.  Bad news, turned out to be a button buck.  Trouble with shooting in heavy cover.  I knew it didn't have antlers but couldn't see well enough for buttons.  I had a small window for the vitals.  Now I will hear endless ribbing from my hunting buddies.   Oh well.  Neighbor who asked for a young deer was thrilled.  Lol

I am having huge issues posting.  Is it just me?

It's not you. Even to like a post takes forever to process, updates on new posts not updating, double posts, I don't dare post a pic.

I'm blaming eerie clowns.

Congrats Moog.  No ribbing from me, been there done that, it happens.

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      best of holiday wishes!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
