Old school deer hunting

I have to laugh when I think about the time I spent hanging from a couple maple tree branches early on.

I fondly smile when I look at pics from hunting in the late 70s, from hunting camp:

Dads 8 mm Mauser, an Enfield, a Krag Jorgenson, two single shot shotguns, an Ithaca Deerslayer, and one Marlin 30-30.

Nowadays, no one would be happy unless their guns still had the "new gun smell".

Been there.....Done that. Oh, not the motorcycle, but I have had some huge squatty old oaks that had weird shapes to them that just made great gun stands.

The main factor of my hunting location in my early bowhunting days was where I could find a tree that I could climb...

Very cool pic and bike BUT, if that was required, I would definitely be hunting from the ground.  Does not look very comfortable at all.

If you climbed a tree the size of the guy in the picture it would bend back to the ground. I think you might require a more stoutly grown tree like a California Redwood. :drinks:

I could imagine that old guy hitting a bump , have the deer hooves catch the spokes and go ass over tea cup !

Gramps.... I used a 2x10" and made it 16" long...I also had a length of rope with a loop in it.... like a stirup...I'd find just the right tree where I could sit and tie that rope off so my feet didn't dangle down...I can tell ya...I never went very high and the trees were usually gnarly well branched hop horn.

I have done the ass over many times when I thought I was evil kneivel (sp?) as a youngster on my kx80.   In fact, I did so after showing my brother how to set the unofficial world record jumping it in 6th gear.  Tough to keep that front end up when you are maxed out.  Lol.
