i have made mock scrapes a few times and even places where there are overhanging trees but they seem to make there own in regular spots instead.   Even sprayed trees with scent too to try and get them to use it.  But seems you need that "active " branch.  Have seen people trim a scrape branch from one location to another and it worked though.

Have not seen hard horn yet in this area. All bucks here are still holding their velvet.

Same here.  Went driving around yesterday evening and seen bucks from spikes to respectfull 8pts.  All still in velvet.

It will be like a light switch tho.  Velvet on, click, velvet off.  Lol.

I have an area by one of my stands that they keep the scrape open almost all of the time. I keep cameras near it and usually in the summer its only does checking it out. This time of year is when the bucks typically start hitting it and it grows to about double its usual size and gets freshened up much more regularly. The season is getting closer....

I found 5 or 6 open scrapes this past Sunday. I put together my first mock scrape and licking branch in an area with no low hanging branches, and set a camera up on it to see what happens. My Smokeys pre-orbital scent is on its way right now. As long as it is here this weekend, Ill be out making more mock scrapes.
