Legal illegal or just being a scumbag

Was small game hunting the other day walking on a market trail on public land .

And on  my way back to the car I see this bow hunter hunting in a climber right over the trail I'm walking on and  I mean literally 15 feet from the trail facing  it .

Now I know you can not  shoot over a road and have to be so many  feet from a structure when hunting .

But what about trails ? Common sense would say you dont post your self  in the path of a marked  hiking trail  on public land.

Illegal-doubt it.
Scumbag-a bit strong.
Good spot- doubtful unless he knows something you don’t.

By the way the trail borders private property he was on the other side of the posted signs which basically are like 10 feet from the trail and you know he was not the owner of that land

I agree on the scumbag comment.

Wonder if he did get one or at least seen one

I spooked  a  doe  on that same trail about 1000 yards away  but still at least dont use the trail as your shooting lane szz  the doe was off the trail about 50 yards away and bordering  private land.

Not the first time I have seen them in that general area actually. Never seen a buck there though

I am confused why it’s ok for you to small game hunt on the trail and he can’t big game hunt near the trail.  Not the spot I would choose but I see no reason why it’s a scumbag move.

Well at that point I was just walking back to my car but I will say this I have seen people hunt as they walk on trails before but they are on the trail looking  shooting away from the trail not over the trail or in the direction of the trail path . And they have orange on this guy was all  camouflaged up which makes it that more dangerous for him and for anyone else .  Let's say a Small game animal pops up in front of that guy with him all camouflaged no blaze orange , a  hunter shooting at small game in the trees in front of  him he  could get peppered  by accident easily with bird shot

I do NOT know that he does NOT own the land bordering the property. I do know that you seem to think the public land available to ALL should be used how you want it used.

Seems like you are assuming much.    But out of curiousity, what distance from trail would be OK?  What about during gun season?   Perhaps we need more legislation or regulation.     Uhhh no thanks.

If you are facing  away from the trail not a problem.

My only issue is he was hunting the trail!!   the only possible shot he could have from that tree would be something on the trail it self .

Know your target AND BEYOND!!!! Just cuz a guy is hunting in camo doesn’t give any bird hunter the right to pepper him with bird shot. If small game hunter can’t pick out a person in a tree stand (most of us stick out like a sore thumb!) maybe he should hang it up.

Legal....yes. Scumbag....no. He's just another hunter, hunting public land. I'd assume he knows the difference between deer and people, and would see and choose his target appropriately. Wouldn't be my choice to to set up where he was. But who am I to question another hunters choices? I certainly wouldn't want anyone making choices for me.

As long as no laws are being broken, leave him alone. Though it doesn't set a very good example for hunters, as nonhunters pass by him.
