Fisher, Marten, Mink?

Long time listener, first time caller...

The length of the tail has me unsure.

My guess is Fisher, look at the ear size.

Let me add another possibility....That tail looks a lot like an otter. Any water nearby?

That looks like a fisher.  Mink and marten will have a shorter tail and are smaller animals. This fisher has a summer coat here, but will look much larger now with a full coat.

Oh yeah...fisher.  Look at how long those hind legs are...marten's legs are stubbier and more equally sized...like a squirrel.  And mink are even stubbier than that...so mink and marten move more even with the ground without that humped up back...thing almost looks like an anteater!

Checked the cam today and had this guy on it.

i saw a couple of these this year and did some googling.  definitely a fisher and apparently there are no martens in NY either unless trail pics can prove otherwise

Not true.  Marten in Messina area.

I saw a pine marten on the summit of Phelps in the ADK's.  Have a pic somewhere.  Other friends have spotted them while hiking too.

cool.  look how large the ears are that's one way to tell the difference
