Needed to try out my new fryer so I went for a hike yesterday afternoon. Not great weather for it, but it was a good hike with some post season deer and turkey scouting mixed in.

Ended up 2 for 3 in a few hours. The 3rd was hauling and had no intentions of stopping or climbing.

Both were spotted on the ground and 40 and 50 yard shots. Owe the first to my new vortex binos. No way could I see him in the bush where he went without them.

Love this Buffalo sauce recipe by the way

Pics in reverse lol

Limb rats

You know what's kind of funny about squirrel hunting, is that when you're out there after deer they appear everywhere. They're aggravating and annoying. Then when you go actively looking (not just in your backyard bird feeder) they're more allusive and the thrill of seeing one is exciting haha.

Looks tasty!  I need to add Steve's book to my library.

it's a real nice book for ~$20 with prime. Very nice pictures and even if you know all there is to know, it's a nice coffee table book just in and of itself.

there is something with the visual and mental part you need to get over with squirrel. If you can do that (which is why my kids loved it so much and the wife wouldn't even try) then you realize it's a pretty decent meal. Chewier and not as good as chicken wings, but still enjoyable and at least worth a shot.

Don't just throw them on the grill though. Try the fryer or a stew, the tougher meat really needs to be broken down.

Very nice.  Yrs ago I got it in my head to make squirrel sausage.

So, I started hunting.  Over 3 or 4 weeks I got 23 tree rats.  IIRC, I around 3 or 4 # of boned out meat. Mixed it with some pork and spices, and make some Damm good sausage. Not the easiest or the best use of time, but it was fun.
