My friend told me to go check out this antique shop. He said the lady a bunch of cool old knives and some custom ones, so I stopped in to check it out. I’m glad I didn’t bring more money!!

Ended up getting a survival knife with interchangeable blade. Anyway she had a 1910 straight razor new in the box super cool, but I couldn’t drop $50 on it at this time. I told my buddy I’m going to get it someday. Today he walked in and gave me this one from Germany and said do you have the nads to use it? I took it home hit it on the strop and lathered up. That was brutal I had to stop after three scrapes. It’s safe to say I’d have been a beard guy back then.

Anyone ever use one?

Toyed with one for a while but it’s a ton of work. I settled on a Merkur safety razor with Japanese Feather blades, badger brush and a variety of soaps.

For Christmas, I gave my 16-year-old nephew his great grandfather’s safety razor from the ‘30s. I made a package of appropriate blades, soap and classic after shave. I hope he uses it and doesn’t pick up some silly plastic thing, but I’m not confident. Kids ...

Walt always finished with a straight razor ,best 7 dollar haircut you could get ,the only problem was ,you could either get a Princeton or high and tight.

I use a double edge, badger brush and soap as well . I’ve heard guys practice the straight razor on a ballon and shaving soap . From the picture, that edge looks like it’s seen better days .

My medicine cabinet, has the slot that I use to drop the old blades in .

I use a straight razor with disposable blades.  I opt for the non-folding one because it's more comfortable to hold and gives better control.  With the badger brush from Art of Shaving.  In the beginning I tore myself up but after about the third time, I got the hang of it.  Rarely cut myself now.  My chin comes out like a baby's bottom.

My barber uses one to trim up too. I do have my grandfathers, and my father in laws single edge straight razors though. One of my earliest memories is peeking in the door while my grandfather was shaving, and him asking me if I wanted a shave too!

The roughest one I ever got was the old double edge razor I used in the army. Have always shaved with a blade though. Never owned an electric razor.
