First buck was a spike in my first archery season that I thought was a doe and then I shot a 1/2 rack basket 6 opening day of gun that first season.  No pics of either.   This was my next buck in my second season hunting (2013 I think).

My first one with protruding antlers was 1985, first bb was 1983 (no pics of that one).  I will try to dig up a pic of the 85 one after dinner.

 

Grandpa's Ithaca 37, 16 ga featherlight deerslayer (still the hardest kicking gun that I own), I am wearing his old woolrich outfit in this photo.    I miss the truck (also my first), 1979 GMC "heavy-half", but I still got the gun.  I carry it a time or two each season and I also killed my last deer (a doe on his old farm) with it last year.  Larry might have sold me the oil.

November 25, 2005.
14 degrees with 15mph winds, so wind chill in single
Digits.

Shot at 825am. Facing towards me at 20yards. Front shirt pocket shot. He was with 2 does.

I should have noted - from the ground (no blind). I don’t have that orange suit anymore. But a lot of close deer with it over the years eating the Bush I would sit against. Just an arms length away

First deer was also my first buck.

My first opening day of gun season, heading out for the evening sit, I came across a bowhunter on a track. He had hit the deer bad the night before and tracked him that night and the next morning. He was not confident in his shot and didn't seem interested in investing any more time in the track. My dad asked me what I wanted to do, head to the stand or follow the track.... after one heck of a track job we had him pinned down in some thick stuff, on the edge of a creek. I waited till he stood up and the rest is history.

Sadly, I don’t have any pics of my first buck. My mentor took some pics and said he would give me some copies, but he passed away before it happened.

Here’s my first bow buck. It was opening day November 1. Pretty sure it was 1997. He was a tank. Dressed out at 205. Not only was his right g3 snapped off, but his entire left main beam was broken off as well. He still had a split brow on his left side with a kicker off the base. I could only imagine what he must’ve looked like before. I was shooting an Oregon Valiant Crusader with some heavy ass aluminums at the time.

Did I fail to mention that my buck was shot from the ground, no ground blind and in an orange cap that I still own(just don’t know where it is).

Not my first bux but first pictures I got Of bux early on or as when my kids say....when I had brown hair.  This is the 3rd buck I had ever taken thanksgiving day 1997.   
this was my 3rd buck w bow taken in November 2000.

i was 30 and 33 in those pics and was able to drag theses bux out by myself.  Today I could barely drag my butt off the couch missed football glad it’s back until my season starts. Octnovber me favorite time of the year.

Majority don’t. I always thought it was just fat lazy guys who say tree stands near the road in catskills because they didn’t want to walk miles. But then I joined this forum in 2010 and was amazed to see so many gun hunters sitting in trees.

Holy Crap!@chef is officially off the hook with his tiny fawn kill. Either you were 712lbs in 1981 or that deer is 47lbs dressed.
