7000 calories is the equivalent of 5 super sized McDonalds value meals. If you're eating that many per day, you should be dead in a year. However, it is not uncommon for professional athletes to consume that many but that is because they are burning through much more since they work out hours each day.

I'm 5'8" and 170. I consume between 2400 to 2800 calories a day but I burn through over a 1000 calories per work out session which consists of 1 hour of weight lifting followed by a 4 to 6 mile run while keeping my heart rate between 140-160 bpm. I do this 3 times a week so that means I burn off 3000+ per week. That's the only way I can consume 2800 calories per day and not gain weight.

PS: A decent heart rate monitor is one of the best investments you can make if you're planning on getting healthy.

Coincidentaly, I ran across this article this morning. The concept is that it takes our body 20 minutes to tell our brain that we're full. So if you shovel tons of food in those 20 minutes, you'll eat a lot more than you need to eat but if you eat slowly, you would trick your brain into thinking it's full and avoid over eating.

My goodness! You put down more than a trash compactor! I don't care how good a persons metabolism is, if you are eating this much and not gaining any weight, there has to be something else up inside your system. I have also seen thin people drop of heart attacks. Just because your thin doesn't mean that all those eggs, bacon and burgers might not be clogging up your arteries.

There is a difference between being thin, being in shape, and being healthy... if your workout and diet is to stay healthy.. the rest will usually fall into place on there own. If you're trying to bulk up or trying to become a linebacker in the NFL... we're talking about a whole different workout and diet.

WOW! that is a ton of food for a guy your size. Even if 7k cal was realistically what you were eating, it would be near impossible to NOT gain any sort of weight... unless you had something wrong with you health wise. Have you had blood work done in the past 6 months? because you might want to do that. Something like your thyroid would have to be working DOUBLE time to process and burn off those cals, fats and carbs. i know there are plenty of people out there with cal diets 7k +/- but they are usually huge weight trainers of some sort and built like brick crap houses. None the less if what you say is true i would get it checked out, something is working either really hard or something is lacking in your body. Its good to be able to eat within reason and not gain weight but to eating for 3 and not gaining an ounce is not good at all...

i am thinking of changing my diet back to my more traditional one i was using before i started my CKD... not having any carbs and training the way i am is killing me and prob restricting me a bit. I feel a little lethargic with the lack of carbs during the week.... we shall see. the nice thing about the CKD is you can easily stop and get back into it. My strenth and endurance is rising big time from last month.

That great, but eating as much as you do still might be having some negative effects on you, eventhough you have always been thin. I think it would be better if you didn't eat as much. 5 burgers or a pound of past is incredible! None of us will escape this life alive, but I think eating too much of the wrong things won't help us in the long run.

I personally think that the low carb diet is not healthy, nor is a high protein diet.. carbs are what give you energy to do the things you need to do... they are the first things to be used up by your body... lots of the processed breads, and pastas (carbs) are not glutin free and that is what actually hinders weight loss... eating natural breads and pastas and other glutin free carbohydrates is much better... it really isn't so much the carbs that are bad just the glutins added. Being italian you can only imagine how much I love bread and pasta.. I eat it all the time.. but I only eat natural glutin free stuff... staying away from high sugar products is way more productive for weight loss that giving up carbs... watching your calorie intake makes it easier to eat the foods you like and not put on added pounds... once you get in a routine of eating correctly and not over-eating... keeping your weight down is much easier.

I agree with Joe. It took me a long time to figure out whats best for my body. Low carb no sugar was it for me. Still eat what I want on the weekend but eating smarter. Absolute no sugar in the diet works big time for me. I have now kept off 15 lbs in the last 8 months and it comes second nature now.

trust me i know how it is being italian and being in an italian family lol... i was on the Keto diet and its a great diet if your lifting moderately and perhaps doing mostly cardio but if your lifting pretty good its not as great. The basis of the diet is great, when in a state of ketosis the body produces Ketones and derives energy from fats so to speak its about a 65/35 split with fats as the 65. but with the new training program i started on Monday through bodybuilding.com i just can not train the way the trainer has us going with out the energy source from carbs, its so hard... i am going to start my new diet tomorrow morning, my carb intake will be around the 100 gram mark everyday i i will be spot on with that, protein at around 120 grams and fats im going to try keeping my EFA;s lower then normal prob at around 30 grams (earlier in the day). I will keep my Cal in take at around 1800 then in a month ill slowly back down. im still writing my plan up but thats what i am thinking. As far as healthy eating and my goals are concerned just eating healthy wont cut it. i have to be as close to spot on and as much as i want pastas and breads, it will be VERY limited. my carb source for now will be Quinoa, Sweet Potato, ezekiel bread and that sort of thing. i cant have things with a high (GI) and separation is key when insulin is present. ill keep you posted on results, my body usually reacts pretty quick to eating clean. its just hard to tell what i am loosing when im training the way i am but i can see myself getting leaner. Im not lifting crazy heavy with little reps, this plan is great but it keeps me in the gym for 2 hours. It depends on the training day but from what i am seeing it is for example:

2-3 warm up sets 10-15 reps (or until failure)

3-4 (sometimes more depending on the movement) actual sets 10-12 reps or until failure.

its burns like no other an i have log sheets for 84 days

I started P90X last night. The Ab Ripper X part about made me puke lol. My arms and back are jello today.

I am on to my third week of Ab Ripper X. I can almost make it through everything but i do end up cheating a little on form.

I hit the 210 mark and said enough is enough. I havent had the time in the last 3-4 years so i finally said i got to get back into working out.

I was pokeing around the other day and found this guy.

http://scoobysworkshop.com/

What he says agrees with almost everything i learnd from my lifting coach in high school / college. He doesnt use much of anything except dumbells.

He has got a great Lats / Pull up workout.

I have been doing the P90x for 4 weeks so far. I love the work outs. Yes, it did take like a week or so to get through the whole 15 minutes of AB Ripper with out stopping. Now I can pretty much fly through it accept those darn backward bicycles things. Just can't seem the get those down. The Kenpo is awesome. Not doing it to lose much weight, just want to get in shape alittle more. Had to pass on their food idea's did not see much on there that I liked.
