Steuben County For Deer Hunting

Steuben County is in my wish list for Deer hunting. Anyone here have any Steuben County deer hunting experience ? Suggest me some tips that will be helpful for me to hunting there.

Its more hype than anything.

Scout and then Scout some more. Find where the deer are.

Mendon/Penfield area in Monroe county , its like shooting fish in the barrel on your first hunt than it shuts down.

Start now exploring the public land...the stories are in the snow. During the season the further from roads/access the better.

I have hunted Steuben since 1966… but I can’t comment because it may upset Chef.

I hunted Steuben for years, although it was on private with pretty strict rules on what can and can't be shot. I really enjoyed the elevation changes there. I'm hunting WNY now and it's all flat. I prefer hunting and stalking through the hills and benches that made up the terrain in Steuben.

There's  no deer in Steuben county .. population is way down in the last 20 years . The boom bust was back in the 90s .

I go to my neighbors camp that is loaded with antlers and pictures. You are right about the 90's the deer pole was never empty and they were big!

I've lived and hunted here my life. Deer numbers are down for sure but buck quality is better than it used to be.
