Some guys love apples. They like to bring 20 apples each day to eat while hunting. Problem is that they always wear the pants with the holes in the pockets. So the 20 apples fall out of their pocket each day.3 points

Once you have killed it, it's MEAT...Hang it anyway you want to.. RESPECT is involved before the deer dies.. It involves trying to make a clean kill and then making a responsible effort to recover the animal after the shot. The only way to disrespect a dead animal would be to wantonly waste the meat.2 points

I myself think the DEC has it explained quite clearly. As you have put in bold, one may hunt big game sunrise to sunset. Before sunrise or after sunset it is completly legal for one to hunt coyotes. Coyotes ARE NOT big game, they are furbearers which can be hunted day or night with a centerfire rifle as long as centerfires are not prohibited for deer hunting. I'm not saying an Encon officer couldn't give you a ticket if you had a loaded gun before sunrise or after sunset but I would almost bet if you plead not guilty and went to trial, there wouldn't be a justice in NYS that would find you guilty, other than Bubba! It's a bit scary that a JP is having such a hard time understanding a simple regulation.2 points

I agree and I'm kind of surprised by the people on here questioning this. If there is something in season legal to hunt in the dark you have every right to have a loaded gun with you after dark while hunting. I have killed quite a few coyotes while deer hunting. And you need to unstring your recurve or long bow??? That is ridiculous.2 points

After this weekend i can finally hunt last football game for my 11 year old son. I have only been out once since opening day due to football and work. Game on after this weekend don't ask me do anything (b-day parties, work parties, family get togethers, and what ever else there could be) that doesn't have to do with hunting YEAH!!!!!!1 point

BTW I won't start rattling until atleast the first week of Nov. and @ that time bringing a doe by your stand could also bring Mr. Big on her heels. What dave6 said also holds merit. I won't call every stand site just for that reason. If set up in a pinch point of heavy cover with open woods/field to the downwind side I feel more comfortable about calling/clanking, knowing that a smart buck would rather not be exposed in a clearing. I use the same logic for calling daytime coyotes. Keeping an obstacle like a river, shale cliff, etc. on the downwind side of your stand can prevent them from circling. Does that mean they're going to come charging in just because they can't scent check? No, but it just tips the odds a little more. Calling while sitting in wide open timber can be be detrimental. Ultimately making that animal call shy. Just like with calling coyotes, once you call they're expecting to see something. Coyotes will often creep to the edge of dense cover and wait til they spot their prey. If none are seen they could be gone with us never even knowing they were there. I think deer can do similar things, especially smart old bucks.1 point

They could never stop selling it to people. The feed stores sell corn and sweetfeed to farmers for livestock. How do you expect them to stop selling it. Apple orchards sell bins of apples. Its a multi billion dollar industry. Wake up people..................1 point

Dave took the words out of my mouth, and I approach calling the same way. I would add that I typically only call to deer I can see. This way I can monitor their response and be sure that I don't over call or educate them. Personal preference though so go with what works for you.1 point

Finally get to head out today after being in "jail" for the last two weeks. Internet says, Weather looks great, wind seems fine....bring e'm on! Good luck everyone today!1 point

Yeah that gun in the pic was my muzzleloader (during northern tier muzzleloading season)1 point

once again.Innocent until proven guilty. The neighbor was robbed with a knife.Since i own a knife i robbed him?Without the evidence it is just a guy accusing a suspect without evidence!!!!!A dead deer is evidence.Plain and simple.Without a dead anything you have a dead court case.1 point

Why not just use natural bait. It comes when your wife or girlfriend has rosie red visit her. Take the urine and spread it on the ground. Its not baiting, its called Pissing off the big bucks. It works to.1 point

Honestly wds, if the guy wanted to bust my balls, hes more than welcome to give me a ticket, which I will gladly take a couple of hours out of my day to take it to court. I have posed the question about a loaded gun after dark as well, and been told if you dont actively pursue a deer or shoot one after dark, and you arent driving around with it in a motor vehicle, you are fine. I go out coyote hunting quite a bit, at night. No issues. I carry my handgun during deer season, loaded, all the time. No issues. Just read the laws, its plain as day. Really, the only interpreting going on here is from those that think its illegal because some ENCON officer looking to bust their nuggets was feeding them incorrect information.1 point

Well it was muzzleloader season this past week in the northern zone and rifle season starts tomorrow. It looks like a muzzleloader in the picture.......1 point

My question would be why they assume an Ibex would breed with a deer?? This would be similar to a bighorn sheep breeding with a deer. Maybe a deer could produce young if inseminated by an Ibex in captivity, but I bet it's next to impossible in the wild.1 point

No, as long as they grew on the tree and they were left where they fell off of the tree and not piled up.1 point
-
Again, its not illegal to have a loaded gun in the dark. Its illegal to shoot a deer after legal hunting hours. There is no interpretation. If you get a ticket for an interpretation, take it to court. If the judge rules against you, appeal it.1 point
-
Shooting a deer outside of legal hours is a completely different thing than having a loaded weapon in the woods. Youre comparing apples and oranges.1 point

So we go out and do our damndest to murder a deer and then we disembowel it and then drag it for God knows how long and then we are worried about disrespecting when it's hanging from a tree? Man, that is funny.1 point

OK ...Let me just say this one more time....The DEC officers need to learn the laws they are suppose to up hold and You as hunters need to know them as well...ECO just love ppl that don't know the laws...it is EASY money for the state IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO HAVE A LOADED WEAPON IN THE WOODS AFTER DARK... UNLESS YOU HAVE A CENTER FIRE IN A SHOTGUN ONLY DEER ZONE.. If I have the proper license and want to wonder around in my woods at night with a loaded shot gun or even my bow...and I do not have a wounded or dead deer out there.....I have the legal right to do so...It is illegal to SHOOT a deer or SHOOT AT a deer before or after legal hours...and a ECO can pound salt if he thinks of giving me a ticket...1 point

What if I eat an apple for lunch and leave the apple core on the ground. Would that be baiting?1 point
-
Is it a law requiring I carry a call to predator hunt? News to me. The burden of proof isn't on me to prove I am doing it correctly. If I am in the woods during gun I have a loaded gun. period.1 point

Wow...I just give up...really it's sad and laughable at the same time....1 point
-
Actually you have it a tad backwards...least we forget.." INNOCENT until PROVEN GUILTY"...it is the officers and courts responsibility to prove their case...unless there is a witness to a person shooting at a DEER..or a wouded or dead DEER recovered ...there is NO case1 point

Actually farmers have a lot cheaper places to buy feed than Dicks. The stuff sold at Dicks, Gander mountain, Bass-pro, etc. are strictly designed and marketed for hunting/baiting purposes.1 point

Agreed 100% People just seem to be hanging on every little word . Makes it very difficult to post quickly. Must proofread or be ready for the accusations if not worded 100%. Most of us aren't English teachers, just regular people sharing a common interest.1 point

What? They kill the deer out of respect?Really?i think if you were waiting in a tree in my living room and stuck an arrow in me i would feel pretty damn disrespected!!!So hanging it by the feet makes them feel like they are respecting the deer now? Some people make me giggle.1 point

my neighbor has a similar fence and the deer impale themselves on it all the time. The funny thing is that she is very anti-hunting. Last spring a doe caught herself right through the gut. The deer was still alive so she called the police. The cop was more clueless than her so she called me to help put it down. I didn't have a gun with me so I had to tell the cop what to do (pretty pathetic). I just had to get a jab in and told her that for someone so against hunting, she has killed more deer with her fence than me as a hunter.1 point

I will never jump another fence...I will never jump another fence...I will never jump another fence !!!!!!!!1 point
