  1. Well got him out with 4 neighbors/friends, put him on a travois and dragged it 250 yards to nearest logging road where i could get to with one of my tractors. that 250 yards took 2 hrs with 5 men pushing pulling, the oldest helper was 76, the youngest was 32. was a lot of work but everyone had fun and was excited. Oh got my patch from dec as well! here is one of his "meat hooks" as well

  2. Been hunting the Gilbertsville Rod and Gun club opening weekend for years, same exact spot every year. Upon walking in to my spot, I was stopped by another hunter who I know who started giving me crap about hunting to close to his stand that he just placed in a tree probably 50 yards from my spot that He knew I hunt every time. We argued about it for a few minutes and I saw that I was just pissing in the wind and the sun was going to be coming up any time, so I told him Ill give him the spot today, but im hunting it the next day. He walked to his stand and i walked down about 300 yards. About 45 minutes in I heard a grunt and a shot. I got ready and waited. Turns out he missed, the buck came running 75 yards from me and stopped, I let him have it. Dropped him in his tracks with the ol Marlin 30-30. I gut him, tag him, start dragging him out, the guy the gets out of his stand and shakes my hand and tells me good job on the first buck which i respect him doing. Then he tells me he was simply shooting in the air to get him moving towards me because he didnt want to shoot him because he wasnt a slammer. Oh well! My first buck, Im happy with him! ill post pictures later!

  3. I'm not a devoted Catholic, but I go to mass as many as Sundays (Other than hunting time) as I can. My priest asks that we say the rosary every day, and I by no means do that, but I'll find myself saying a decat or two when I'm in my stand. Passes times, hope some good will come out it, and I usually can use all the help I can get. This past Sunday, I hadn't seen a deer the day before, and nothing was even moving around 7:15 am, so I said a decate of the rosary, looked up and said, "Ya know, all I want to do is see one, if you can help". And I swear, not a second went by and I hear out my left window, tsh, tsh, tsh. Down in the valley, a deer was coming through nose to the ground. Saw it was a buck right away, scoped him and saw he was at least a six or eight, and let him have it. He teamed up with a couple of does coming the other way up the hill, ran around and dropped. I looked up to God and said "Now your just showing off". Went over to it and it was a nice 7 pointer. I put a lot of time into the new stand this year. My wife bought me a used quad, first one I ever owned, spent some time setting up the stand, planting some no-plow areas, cutting firing lanes, helping with my son's area too. AND, get a deer this year, priceless. I learned a few things too, first, putting a deer on a quad, by yourself, is a real beotch. Fell over onto him a few times, but managed (picture looks when we went at it a few times). Second, I have to put up an overhang over the 2 windows cause when that sun comes up in the morning and sets, it hits you right in the face, and if you have to aim out that window, it's blinding.Sounds like a March project. And third, when all else fails, give him a try. "It can't Hoit" And my son's with a bow.

  4. My first buck!! I've never posted here before (never had anything to add!) but really enjoy reading all the great posts. Anyway, shot him opening day around 10:00 am. He managed to sneak in behind me and my stand at about 50 yds but had his head down moving at a slow enough pace that I had time to set up. Waited for him to get into a clearing where I would have a clean shot. I made a bleating sound and when he frooze and turned his head, I took the shot. He jumped about 7 feet in the air, hit the ground, tumbled twice and dropped. Needless to say, I know he's not big but I'll take it! Now I just need to convince my fiance to let me hang him somewhere.

  8. Shot this buck late this afternoon. Two years in a row this stand setup has produced a solid deer during gun season which i beleive is the hardest time of the year to kill any deer let alone a solid buck. Genesee County wide 6 point!

  9. Shot a buck in PA. on Monday. I haven't killed one since 2007 there and it's only the second since the 3pt rule for me. I've seen only one since then that got by me and that was a swing & a miss. (or 3, hauling azz across the field) This on is a nice 8pt. 215 yard shot, 243 Winchester, Barnes 80gr TTSX handloads. No fancy recovered bullet pictures with this one, sorry! The shooting hut....(at the end of the day, no I didn't drive in in the morning) The gun, perched and ready to roll... The buck was at the top of the little island on brown grass, 215 yards. Going from right to left. If not spooked, they will hesitate for a second when they hit the lane, check for traffic then proceed. (or die)... Hero shots...

  11. Im playing too many video games? If you have a doe and shoot for the head and you move a bit or she does its most likely going to be a clean miss. I didnt say I like to do it because its fun, I said you dont ruin any meat and the odds of wounding the deer are small. And im not saying take a head shot at a moving deer, free hand or even a semi long shot. WNY let me get some of that popcorn lol

  13. i'm not a fan of even neck shots but i'm not against them. i suppose if you miss the neck you miss outright vs missing in the vitals and wounding. However, head shots really aren't cool and honestly they greatly reduce your odds. They teach police to aim for vitals and not the head for a reason. You're playing too many videogames.

  20. Apparently this went from a game warden to cops in general. It's no secret there is a quota system for NYC cops and there are some (not all - some) cops who are lazy so they hand out bogus tickets just to meet the quota. I've been ticketed twice wrongfully. One was a maybe, the other was an obvious wrongful ticket and a jerk of a cop. Driving through the upper west side of manhattan, there was a squad car doubled parked on a one lane street. I slowly squeeze through him and then I saw the light turn yellow so I speed up to make it. Minutes later, that squad car pulls me over. Apparently he was following me for awhile waiting for me to do something wrong. They had me get out of the car and start yelling an me like a drill sergeant. I played it cool...did the whole "yes, sir...no, sir...I'm sorry, sir". Cop to my left points to the squad car and tells me to go wait over there while he checks on the passengers. The moment I took a step, the cop to my right accuses me of trying to run. Did the whole breath analyzer, etc. Came out clean, I wasn't drinking at all. In the end, I get a ticket for reckless driving. I consulted a friend of mine who is a NYC cop and he told me it's a bogus ticket. In NYC, you cannot get a reckless driving by itself. It's accompanied by a primary ticket such as running a red light, speeding, turning without signaling, etc. How can you be considered "reckless" if you followed every single traffic law to a t? So I took a day off. Went down to court at my "appointed" time. Waited FOUR hours! Tons of other "law breakers" went ahead of me. When I finally went up to the judge, he read the ticket and said okay, I can pay $25 and they'll drop it. I asked what if I don't want to pay and would rather fight it? He said then we'll arrange another court date for you to fight it. Now, that means I have to take another day off. Come all the way back down here again, wait hours again...just to avoid $25? I decided to just pay the $25 eventhough I knew full well that I was innocent. I just wanted to get out of there so bad I rather let the city rob me of $25 because I lose a lot more than that taking a day off. All those people who went before me...every single one of them paid their $25. I wondered how many of them also got robbed by the city? PS: Even after that, I hold no grudge. I have a few friends who are NYPD and I can say for sure, they're outstanding officers so there are some good ones out there...unfortunately, there are also some bad ones too.

  22. 8:45 am this morn i got down from my stand and walked to meet up w my hunting buddy, long story short we were just getting ready to start a mini drive when this guy stepped out about 50 yrds away i wispered "stand still!" and brought my gun up i shot and he dropped right over.... needless to say i was and still am SUPER exited! he would be a six point (i think) but he broke his main beam so he is a 4 or 5 im not sure if the main beam is big enough to count.... i am guessing his weight at about 175 and his age at 1.5 yr approx (i shot him with a hornady 150 gr super shock tip bullet in 308 win)

  24. It is amazing to me that you even have to be put in this situation with a neighbor... or anyone for that matter. Have people just flat out lost their sense of right and wrong? Not just as a hunter, but as a civilized human being... why would anyone think that it is necessary or a good idea to hunt anywhere close to a neighborhood?? The guy even said he has other places to hunt...THEN HUNT THERE!!! Hopefully "other places" doesn't mean someone elses neighborhood.
