  1. Here we go with the whole looking down the nose thing...Wow where's that Ego pin when you need it... I'm very fortunate in the fact I feel comfortable enough to hold out on older deer and have more than enough doe tags for the entire family...but not every ones that fortunate...I watch my Dad in-law ...who is caring for a very ill wife full time and has bad arthritis....he loves to hunt and downing a buck...and yes at this point in his life...any buck with visible points is a thrill for him...he's payed his dues along with the friends he has come down to hunt with him ..........by the way they hunt in a low doe permit area......Do I want to see bigger more buck at camp...yes...but not at the expense of the enjoyment these older men get....... and the real effort I see it takes just to get out into the woods..... In stead of looking down your nose at ppl and having the me me me me attitude...Perhaps you should look past your nose and fit your foot into the shoe of another person for a day

  2. This is an open letter to my state representatives Patty Ritchie and Addie Russell, Ladies, This is a letter to express my concerns with the Governor's plan to infringe upon mine and everyone else's second amendment rights to keep and bear arms. The stats has already over stepped it's bounds in the past by enacting many strict gun laws as it is. This is not about me being able to hunt with a firearm, it is about my inalienable right guaranteed in the second amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America. The second amendment is about being able to stand up against a tyrannical government. If the said government is able to take away our firearms, we stand no chance against a take over. I ask that you do the right thing and fight for all of our rights. Thank you Thought i would share

  3. A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY TO THINK ABOUT.......December 29, 2012 marks the 122nd Anniversary of the murder of 297 Sioux Indians at Wounded Knee Creek on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. These 297 people, in their winter camp, were murdered by federal agents and members of the 7th Cavalry who had come to confiscate their firearms “for their own safety and protection”. The slaughter began after the majority of the Sioux had peacefully turned in their firearms. The Calvary began shooting, and managed to wipe out the entire camp. 200 of the 297 victims were women and children. About 40 members of the 7th Cavalry were killed, but over half of them were victims of fratricide from the Hotchkiss guns of their overzealous comrades-in-arms. Twenty members of the 7th Cavalry's death squad, were deemed “National Heroes” and were awarded the Medal of Honor for their acts of [cowardice] heroism. We hear very little of Wounded Knee today. It is usually not mentioned in our history classes or books. What little that does exist about Wounded Knee is normally a sanitized “Official Government Explanation”. And there are several historically inaccurate depictions of the events leading up to the massacre, which appear in movie scripts and are not the least bit representative of the actual events that took place that day. Wounded Knee was among the first federally backed gun confiscation attempts in United States history. It ended in the senseless murder of 297 people. Before you jump on the emotionally charged bandwagon for gun-control, take a moment to reflect on the real purpose of the Second Amendment, the right of the people to take up arms in defense of themselves, their families, and property in the face of invading armies or an oppressive government. The argument that the Second Amendment only applies to hunting and target shooting is asinine. When the United States Constitution was drafted, “hunting” was an everyday chore carried out by men and women to put meat on the table each night, and “target shooting” was an unheard of concept. Musket balls were a precious commodity and were certainly not wasted on “target shooting”. The Second Amendment was written by people who fled oppressive and tyrannical regimes in Europe, and it refers to the right of American citizens to be armed for defensive purposes, should such tyranny arise in the United States. As time goes forward, the average citizen in the United States continually loses little chunks of personal freedom or “liberty”. Far too many times, unjust gun control bills were passed and signed into law under the guise of “for your safety” or “for protection”. The Patriot Act signed into law by G.W. Bush, was expanded and continues under Barack Obama. It is just one of many examples of American citizens being stripped of their rights and privacy for “safety”. Now, the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is on the table, and will, most likely be attacked to facilitate the path for the removal of our firearms, all in the name of “our safety”. Before any American citizen blindly accepts whatever new firearms legislation that is about to be doled out, they should stop and think about something for just one minute- Evil does exist in our world. It always has and always will. Throughout history evil people have committed evil acts. In the Bible one of the first stories is that of Cain killing Abel. We can not legislate “evil” into extinction. Good people will abide by the law, and the criminal element will always find a way around it. Evil exists all around us, but looking back at the historical record of the past 200 years, across the globe, where is “evil” and “malevolence” most often found? In the hands of those with the power, the governments. That greatest human tragedies on record and the largest loss of innocent human life can be attributed to governments. Who do the governments always target? “Scapegoats” and “enemies” within their own borders…but only after they have been disarmed to the point where they are no longer a threat. Ask any Native American, and they will tell you it was inferior technology and lack of arms that contributed to their demise. Ask any Armenian why it was so easy for the Turks to exterminate millions of them, and they will answer “We were disarmed before it happened”. Ask any Jew what Hitler’s first step prior to the mass murders of the Holocaust was- confiscation of firearms from the people. Wounded Knee is the prime example of why the Second Amendment exists, and why we should vehemently resist any attempts to infringe on our Rights to Bear Arms. Without the Second Amendment we will be totally stripped of any ability to defend ourselves and our families.

  4. Another letter sent out to my State Senator and state assemblyman: I heard a lot of distressing talk in the Governor’s address about another round of proposed attacks on the rights of law-abiding gun owners in this state. As one of your constituents, I want to go on record as opposing a further spread of these ineffective attempts at violence control. I think that the legislated harassment of the law abiding in combination with the coddling of the criminal element has gone on entirely too long and needs to be halted right now. I also do not want the government mandating that I be placed in a defensive handicapped position to those criminals bent on doing harm to me or my family. I see no reason for our government to be legislating that law abiding citizens be put at a disadvantage to the criminal element when it comes to home defense. The time is now to begin innovative approaches to violence control rather than simply trotting out the old time-worn, unimaginative, failed, battles against guns and the law abiding citizens that use them. It’s time to insist that remedies focus on the root causes rather than the pieces of hardware that are legitimately used everyday in a legal fashion by your constituents. Thank you for your time.

  5. My blood-pressure raises a little everytime I hear somebody saying "we don't need them". Who has the right to say what I do or don't need? I really don't need any home defense ..... unless somebody is breaking down the front door or crawling through a window. Who has the right to dictate that I am legally required to be less well-armed than your average home invader? Who do we trust with those kinds of life and death decisions in our lives? ..... The anti-gun crowd? If they can guarantee that those that would do me or my family harm would abide by any laws (existing or proposed), then maybe some negotiations might occur. Until that time, I have no interest in having people tell me what I need.

  6. No offense first light, but I am sick of people telling everyone you don't need that.If thats the way the world would soon become we wouldn't have big truck, fast cars, big macs,1000 channels of tv,thousands and thousands of acres of state land, suer fast bows, new broad heads or any other technological advances that have come into our hunting community in the last 10 years.I cant stand it when someone tells me "you don't need that",well who gives a s*** what I NEED its what I want.I have never been in trouble with the law,I pay my taxes,I work my ever lovin azz of,so why am I restricted to have some enjoyment in life.If you don't want it in yours then fine, but don't restrict or dictate mine.

  9. First off, where are you located? You can go to the DEC website and download the google earth add-on. It'll give you a map of a bunch of places you can hunt. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7844.html I can see some outfitters that you drag you to a spot that they had already scouted, sit you there, and then you shoot the deer when it walks by. This is shooting a deer. You won't learn anything about hunting this way but this can potential "hook" a customer to keep relying on this outfitter to shoot deer. I can also see an outfitter who takes you around and explains how to located, track, and hunt a deer. The latter type of outfitter may be worth it. I've never used an outfitter so I can say which ones are good or bad.

  10. Here is a reply From Brian Kolb, NYS Assembly Minority Leader (less than 8 hrs from the time I sent him my message): Thank you for expressing your concerns about proposed gun control measures. The horrific tragedies in Newtown, Connecticut and Webster, New York have prompted calls for some fundamental changes in public safety regarding firearms and mental health. I welcome such discourse. Our nation has a framework in place to thoughtfully address issues such as these. I have always been a steadfast supporter of the Second Amendment. It is therefore worth noting that the United States Supreme Court has recently re-affirmed that the Second Amendment should be construed as stating that an individual has a fundamental right to gun ownership for the purpose of self-protection. I remain committed to advocating for our Constitutional Freedom. New York State already has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. We do not need any more. Our goal should be to address the underlying issues that have resulted in tragedies such as Newtown and Webster. We need to proactively ensure that individuals who should not have guns do not obtain them, period. There should not be further restrictions placed on law-abiding citizens. This will involve the cooperation of mental health professionals, interaction with local law enforcement and others, as well as an enhanced reporting system. The scope of these tragedies transcends a discussion that is simply about guns. It requires a fundamental examination of our society and public safety. If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Brian M. Kolb Assembly Minority Leader

  12. yes i would agree that there should be at least a backround check at the counter BUT i feel that if i pass the backround check there in NO reason i cant take home an AR-15 or handgun i dont like the "two week waiting period" or the "ncis check for buying ammo" ideas although I dont have a prob w me not having nukes, LOL it WOULD be a tiny bit silly for me to build a nuke silo in my backyard.... LOL however i think that most people wouldnt have that kind of cash anyhow LOL i mean to build a nuke you are talkin millions of dollars.... one of the main points of the second amendment was to ensure that every man had able means to defend himself if he so wished, i dont need a nuke to do that!!!! an AR-15? Semi auto handgun? a 10, 20, or 30 round mag? YES i should be allowed to own those.... to each his own

  13. The 6 shot limit has always applied just to autoloaders. There is no limit for pumps, levers, or bolts, and never has been to my knowledge. Quite a few of the older lever guns held more than six shots, as do British SMLE bolt actions which hold ten.

  14. Schumer is a moron, and the gun bill they present (if any) will still have to pass the normal process. If it does so, you can bet the NRA and others will be out in full force fighting it in court. Just keep calling and emailing your reps, its far from a done deal. Most stores are out of some ammo because people buy it up as soon as it comes in, and its getting tough for them to even get it in stock. Walmart can sell or not sell whatever they want, it doesnt mean its been banned.

  15. I would respectfuly disagree as I feel the second amendment applies just as much today as it day the day it was penned (much like laws that anti gunners always quote about free speech ect) however I dont want to start an argument here and these are just my personal belief's... one thing I REALLY have a problem with tho is when fellow hunters/shooters start arguing about gun control because i think thats what the anti gun people are TRYING to get us to do!!! Lets just all try to be friends even if we disagree.... right guys?

  18. the problem is that this is what we are dealing with - people that cannot think past the end of their noses and honestly believe that eliminating guns will make the world a wonderful happy place with no crime.

  19. I will compromise. You can ban automatic weapons and in the spirit of compromise you agree to hold criminals accountable and not reduce their sentences, follow through on the death penalty. Sounds fair to me.

  21. So I guess your saying that was the only mountain lion that has "wandered" in from out west and that there are no others in the state ? Do you think there could be others that are just passing through and not necessarily residents ? You don't think there could be ONE mountain lion anywhere in the Northeastern US right now ? I'm only asking because you have a tendency to ridicule others who have claimed to have seen one.

  22. Why follow the right/left paradigm that only confuses? How about a political spectrum that is much easier to understand and with less confusion. I started studying and researching history five years ago because I wanted to understand why are things so bad. Granted, I was inspired to do so. But that is in a good way. The results from those studies have left me with no choice but to move from being a person who was for more authoritarian, to having less. Most people that research, start seeing a bigger picture where causes and solutions are not what we are exposed to in schools, on TV, and in newspapers; which is the smaller picture.

  23. But it doesn't mean banning anything for feel good reasons. There is no compromise needed - except for the banners realizing the things they want will do nothing to effect the problems they see.

  24. Our rights under the 2nd amendment have nothing to do with hunting.. Our God given rights to defend ourselves, our families and our property have nothing to do with hunting.

  25. I agree, doing nothing about the problem will solve zero of the problems we face. Guns and magazines are not the problem, and gun laws or bans have never put an end to the problems.

Two hundred yards from my son's home there is a sign stateing about mountain lions in the area. I asked my son if he had ever seem one or any sign of one. He told me that he has never seem one or any sign of one and he fishes those mountain streams year round and yes he also is a hunter.and has taken many big game through-out the western states and knows what to look for.. I also know what a mountain lion looks like and I saw one near Deposit 5 years ago. i WAS ONLY 30 YARDS FROM IT SO i KNOW THERE ARE SOME IN NEW YORK STATE

  34. Sogaard...no one what?...You actually think no one in this country will fight to keep their property? and maintain the right to use that property...Did you just move here? Here's what they figure...once we take the guns and destroy them....they will never be able to gain a strong hold to get their 2nd amendment rights back...They started small...with picking at our freedom of speech and the right to assemble...hell that went down with out a second look...they have been poking at are rights to own land with the broad stroke of eminent domain...For the good of all...forget rights to privacy...we signed that away years ago ...to better our health care...our cars are all lo jacked..blk boxed ...ect..ect...now they have come to a line.....
