some sweet corn and pumpkins after all...as you know every thing went in late especially the sweet corn...winter squash and the pumpkins...I planted in the old goat pasture and left half for the HR / turnip planting...figured if I get any thing fine if not it will be a good food plot...Well the corn silked out this past week and I have oodles of soft ball sized squash and a lot of football sized pumpkins...as you see the hog radish is doing great and the turnips are coming along.....Deer went on as soon as the silk started ...but my old stinky rubber work shoes stopped any more damage....Mr B is a happy camper...they are no longer on the boot dryer...LOL2 points

Just before a strong thunderstorm hit, he was taken by cesarean section, ( OUCH , don't know how the women do it). Another big boy at 9 lbs. 13 oz, 22 inches long. I'll enjoy him while he's young, but soon will have turkeys flying over his head, as his brother did, Another little hunter. LOL.2 points

Steuben or Chemung County will get me... My wife and I will be relocating upstate Im sure some of you have noticed from the past few months my activity rate has dropped like a rock on here.... and that is due to the fact my wife and i have secretly listed our house on LI and started our search in the Horseheads, Corning, Painted Post, Big Flats area. We will be opening a business in which we are not saying what at this time. LI has become far to saturated for business owners and it is a wonder how some even make it out here with ALL the choices consumers have as options just on ONE BLOCK. I am currently an engineer and left my job when the move started last week. So pumped to start the venture of my own business. The upstate down state convos on here i had to bite my lip on as i had plans on going up for some time now. Dont get me wrong, i love Long Island, as i get older there tends to be many things i love more about upstate tho. My house went into contract in about 2 weeks and was off the market and we are closing in less then 1 week. We had an accepted offer on a house in Horse Heads but we decided to back out as it was just not a good fit after my engineer inspection was done. our movers came Thursday to pack the house in the truck and we met them in HH's Friday morning to load in storage. So all our stuff is upstate basically... at first when i even brought the word upstate to my wife i was shut down super quick. Upon bringing her up there she loved it. she loves my friends up there and my family. and not to mention Seneca Lake... The one thing i will miss is the LI hunting LOL!! AND FRIENDS AND FAMILY. So there it is lol now that we are basically moved out and just waiting to close, i have some time on my hands until we get up there and start diving in.2 points

My uncle was telling me that him and one of his friends were spotlighting near their camp in St. Lawrence County. They put the light on one buck and were surrounded by law enforcement within a minute. There were no houses around no firearms in the vehicle everything was completely legal they were let go with an apology.2 points

I was at the archery range on Saturday and this guy shows up shoots a round through a whisker biscuit with the cock vane facing straight down. His groups were over 12 inches on a 30 yard target. I ask the guy nicely"isn't you arrow upside down?" and he fires back right away "nah, that's how it's suppose to be". He then shoots another round horrible grouping, sits down and doesn't shoot again. Later on, when his buddy asks him if he's going to shoot again, he told his friend he's good and done for the day. Funny thing is that I wasn't trying to show him up. I wasn't 100% positive myself and was opening up a dialogue. Some people think they know everything and gets defensive when they think there's any form of criticism.2 points

I found this video last night on how to pack out and cape a deer without gutting it. Pretty interesting. I may try it on my next one. http://youtu.be/_7AHA2TyqHo1 point

There were a lot of veggies in the garden that I had written off as a lost cause because of the weather. The normal times for harvest has long gone by and things were either way to small (Brussels sprouts) or had blossomed without ever coming on as something you could harvest. Well, guess what ...... those long forgotten pepper blossoms have all of a sudden turned into peppers. Jillions of them growing more and more everyday. Those broccoli plants that appeared to have cashed it in and gone to seed instead of producing viable heads are now coming on like gang-busters, and keep on producing meal after meal. Those little brussel sprouts that looked only like a blemish on the main stalk are now getting some size to them. Butternut squash is everywhere. And as usual the couple of zucchini plants and yellow summer squash are finally producing to the usual point where we are supplying the entire neighborhood and even strangers with piles of squash. I think we already have more beets than anyone could eat in a lifetime, and the parsnips are just starting to develop. Swiss chard has been producing all summer. The cold and the rain couldn't slow that down. So it looks like the freaky cold wet weather of this summer kind of put the brakes on the garden development, but with the return of the warmer weather, everything is playing catch-up. The maters didn't do so good. We got hit with a lot of rot and we only got a few good tomatoes out of all the plants that we put in. Everything else is good ..... finally. So how are the rest of your gardens doing this year? Did anyone else notice the mid-summer vacation that a lot of the veggies took this year? Is your stuff making a come-back?1 point

Only thing got planted were some pumpkins on the manure pile. Their the size of baskets balls. My garden yielded 50 bales of red clover which I turn into $200. Went to the Batavia farmers market and picked up some beautiful veggies with the doe.1 point

It's not always just paranoia. There are filthy, rotten, disgusting, revolting, putrid, scum-bag, wandering shreds of human debris, thieves out there. Unfortunately, no matter where you go these days, even in the woods, these pieces of filth are there to demonstrate exactly how low some people can be. I had a camera stolen, out in the woods, and I had my "repeal the safe act" sign stolen from beside the road. I have no illusions anymore about the honesty and integrity of people. Assume the worst and you probably will not be real far off.1 point

Shoot a bunch of sifferent bows in your price range at an archery shop. Which ever is most comfortable in your hand while holding and drawing, shooting with eyes open and closed is the one you want. Its all about fit... not manufactures.....1 point

My family has done this forever in the ADKS. Sure beats the long drag. One time I had only a kitchen garbage bag in my coat so I boned out the deer I shot, took off my turtle neck and tied off the sleeves and stuffed everything in there to carry it out. Not as comfortable as a pack but still better than dragging. Done properly there is no hair or dirt contamination.1 point

NY DEC has some of them. Ive seen them before in different places just far enough off the road that they look pretty legit.1 point

You know I'm going to hold you to that right lol. Your going to be a stone throw away now1 point

It was the very first plot I ever planted and it's a good value for the seed. It was the best buck on a bag option for late season plantings before brassicas really became a favorite to plot. I do believe the mix has changed slightly. I'd have that stuff in the ground asap, however. Time is a bit short on that respect.1 point

Mint? Holy heck, I haven't heard that word used in the context you are talking about since high school in the 90s. "Dude, we're not beat, we're mint." was our motto I think...and that's wNY. At least he sold off that dyno queen a few years back. That thing would be out of style amongst all the trucks and the like where he's moving now. Nothing like getting old, Geno. It's a nice area, although not much for city-experiences when the desire arises for you and the wife. Rochester is probably the closest "city" city with cultural attractions of any sort. There is a good pizza shop in Corning and the family is from NYC area originally. I forget the name, but you'll find it quick down there.1 point

I spent the day building a dresser so I can make room in a closet for diapers. Wifey did treat me to a fancy dinner at night though. Technically I got what I needed for the season last week when I bought my lifetime super sportsman and lifetime bow and they arrived today. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free1 point

Thanks bud I will always be on this site so long as john keeps it active. I'm not going anywhere, I'll still be in NY. It's funny we are the same way, the more we think about it, the more we can't stand living on LI. I can't stand the traffic and after someone slamming the back end of my truck a few weeks ago in traffic while I was picking that quad up it was icing on the cake for me lol. Luckily my truck barely had a scuff on it.. We said the same about family too but at the end of the day they don't pay your taxes lol1 point

I'm just plain, ol, cheap. And, I don't like to monkey with changes. My whisker biscuit is the second one I have ever owned. I sold my other one with the bow, or I would probably still be using that one, with the home made notch in it. Some people like fancier stuff, or they like to try out all the newer stuff. I am happy with what I have, although I think about getting a new bow every year, but rarely do. I am more of a practice makes perfect type of guy. I literally shoot a few thousand arrows every year, and if I have my way, I hardly ever change anything. What I have seen of the new style drop-aways, it appears that they work nice and smooth. Nothing the matter with them other than cost, and I honestly can't see a benefit in me changing anything at this point.1 point

Maybe little Johnny is not so lazy, after all he did start a second thread.1 point

Anything that is attached to the arrow tightly enough not to move on initial launch or through flight like this FOB is going to provide resistance to penetration. It may pop off but it is limiting the penetration as compared to a fletching that is tracking the wound channel of the broadhead or rolls againts the shaft. I can't see using them, These rank up there with the tracking strings that attached where your broad head screws into the arrow shaft.1 point

Same thing happens every other week, when he takes his mandatory bi weekly, elaborate family vacation.1 point

It's bad when a cucumber has to hold it's burps! I know I enjoy a good one after a icy cold A&W root beer! lol1 point

To me, there are 3 factors when building a hunting arrow. 1 - Total arrow weight 2 - Front of Center (FOC) 3 - Spine I have researched this til the cows come home and actually made a tutorial that can be viewed here on this forum at: http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/5030-how-i-built-my-arrows/ Speed is great but Kinetic Energy is better. A heavier arrow, especially an arrow that is balanced with the correct FOC will out perform a fast and light arrow for hunting purposes. They are more forgiving if the shot is a bit off... they fly better in windy conditions (more like a dart)... they will penetrate bone better, etc.1 point
