So you're gonna tell me that you don't have no black cats, no Roman Candles, or screaming mimis? Oh come on, man. You got no lady fingers, fuzz buttles, snicker bombs, church burners, finger blasters, gut busters, zippity do das, or crap flappers? You're gonna stand there, ownin' a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistlin' bungholes, no spleen splitters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker don'ts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistlin' kitty chaser?11 points

My son & I have been seeing this guy's calling cards all over my place since the end of October. I finally met up with him at about 3:30 this afternoon. He walked right towards me as he rounded a bend in a horse trail. I got the drop on him for about 3 seconds. He was looking in my direction, but not directly at me. I was in a 15' tri-pod. The shot took him straight on just above the heart. He was somewhat downwind & I didn't want to take the chance waiting on a better angle. He spun around & ran about 50 yards back up the trail & dropped where the picture was taken. Even after a month of rut, he dressed over 170# My son has a better picture of the rack on his phone. When I can get him to e-mail it to me I'll post it.8 points

and on a nearby tree, scrawled in blood were the words "if it's brown it's down"...........and legend has it, that on a clear, cold night, you can hear a "man child" crying softly.....eerie but true.7 points

Easy... Goober sees deer...Shoots it... Walks up to deer and discovers it has antlers..Bad news because he put his buck tag on a trophy spike opening day and only has a DMP. Guts deer..leaves vest and knife on ground.. Cuts off head to get rid of evidence.. Decides to remove antlers with his patented BOB VILA folding saw ... Saws off one antler..Starts to cut off the other antler, SLIPS and delivers a crushing blow to his testicles on the upstroke.... Runs screaming in pain back to his truck.. Bear comes in and drags off deer.. OP stumbles on scene... Seems perfectly clear to me...4 points

We had this piebald buck traveling on several farms with a couple guys specifically targeting it. It ended up killed. I hunted one of the farms it was seen on but I was not specifically targeting it and to be honest I dont think I would of shot it if I had the opportunity, a creature of this rarity just seems fitting to me to let it walk for everyone in the area to enjoy seeing it. What do you guys and gals think? Not that it matters now but curious how many would pass it up and how many would shoot to kill.3 points

Here is a pic of two pictures of one I killed in 2004 down in Hector. Not as white, but I wasn't passing her. Everyone knew she existed and wanted to kill her. I figure she had a better chance of a swift death with me than with some of the whoople heads that were hunting nearby.3 points

Legality has never been the standard of ethical behavior. Some folks may choose to do things because they are legal, but that does not make them ethical. Ethics are often personal. If baiting bears or deer is legal, and that's how you hunt, there is nothing wrong with it. To you, it is ethical. Anyone who chooses not to do it can say it's not sporting, but has no right to call it unethical. IMHO, the only thing that is unethical is knowingly violating the law, or doing something that you personally feel is not sporting. Ethics are methods that make you feel sporting, even when nobody is around to see what you did.3 points

Thanks everyone! It was a hell of a rush to do two with a muzzleloader. The story was about 9 am I had 5 doe come in behind me and being that this was going to be my last time out for the year I looked for the biggest lead doe found my opening and squeezed off. She went down in 30 yards. Then to my surprise I looked and saw this buck running and stopped in the same exact area! He started to run off and I let out a couple grunts with my mouth while I reloaded and he started to come back. Waited for him to come from behind the tree and squeezed off again. He went down 40 yards from her. Needless to say doing all this with a smoke pole was AWESOME! And I can't say enough good things about my TC Encore! All misspellings courtesy of iPhone3 points

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.2 points

to me, the guy who goes fishing and keeps his limit every time, just because he can is unethical, as is a guy who spots a deer while driving, parks and walks down the road gets the legal minimum off the roadway and kills it, or the guy who fills every deer tag just because he can, and then goes and dumps them all at some donation center.......only because I don't need to hunt or fish for food and don't see the need for anyone else who hunt's or fishes for enjoyment to do the same..........now you take a guy who needs that animal/fish for food, and I change my opinion on what is ethical.2 points
-
Oh man you're gonna get blasted b/c I've been down that road here. Imo, the "as long as it's legal" guys often use that rationale to explain away just shooting every animal they see regardless of the situation, weapon, etc. NYS DEC could decide to allow hand grenades dropped from air planes to further wipe out deer and guys will say... "hey, as long as it's legal"... And we all know how well government is able to determine what is and is not legal2 points

There are bad apples in every bunch, and nobody is saying that there arent. What i have said in the past is that people that hunt within the confines of the law should not be snubbed or looked down upon just because they arent as dedicated as some of us are. Broad brush generalizations that "gun hunters...." are slobs are just plain stupid.2 points

Cva customer service is amazing last Thursday before I heading out to camp I wanted to camp I wanted to run a little bore butter down my muzzle loader so while doing that a patch got stuck in the barrel and while trying to get it out the weld that is under the barrel to hold the stock screw in place broke its 11pm as soon as I was done I was going to head to camp so Icalled a buddy and asked if I can drop the gun off so he can weld it back together at work and bring it out to camp with him the next day he had a machine at home and welded it for me by 1230 I was on my way after the morning hunt with the bow I took some shots with the gun it was misfiring like crazy I'm glad I always bring back up guns to camp since the next day was opening day. This morning I called cva customer service and explained what happened just to give them a heads up I didn't expect them to really be able to do anything for me a minute into the conversation he said a new one is on the way I asked a new barrel he said no I'm gonna send you a new gun today that is amazing customer service. I even explained thst my gun was probably 7 yrs old they didn't even care or ask fur me to send the old gun back1 point

Headed out to the same stand as yesterday at around 1:30. At about 3, i caught movement about 150 yards away, on a field edge and saw two does being chased by a big 9 that I have been after this year. I saw him run them out into the pasture behind my stand, and around in a few circles. He never did get into a shooting lane, but spent about 10 minutes at less than 200 yards running those does. Talk about frustrating. Right around 3:30, i heard some twigs snap off to my right. Coming right up a small creek bed, was a good doe and a button buck. For almost 10 minutes i watched them wander around, and then the doe stepped out onto the ATV trail that is right by the pasture fence, and I let her have it. Put one right in her neck and dropped her in her tracks. I stayed up in my stand until 4:15 and then got down to watch the open pasture in case the does and the big 9 came back out into the pasture. Right at 4:20, the does came back out of the thicket and stood out in the pasture at about 125 yards like silouette targets begging me to take a shot. I resisted, only because i hoped the buck would come out to harass them some more, but no such luck. I headed to the ATV and came back to get my doe taken care of. The freezer is filling up nicely, still room for a few more in there though : )1 point

if you know of illegal things going on, why not just report it? I see all of these threads where people are complaining about this stuff going on, and that the DEC doesnt do anything, but i see far fewer saying they reported it.1 point

The real issue is why is the will of the people not being upheld? The bill to ban the use of that type of maternity cage passed by a large margin and polls have shown that over 75 percent of New Jersey population is in favor of banning them. The question is why does corporate/political interests trump the voters of New Jersey? With concerns toward CAFO why are laws written to except them from clean water and air laws?1 point

Or lets try this.... He felt bad that he may have messed up your hunt and was being sporting about it . or He was clearly on your land and seeing you "waited a minute" before announcing your presence ...being made to feel uncomfortable he was trying to be polite in offering you the deer... but alas different mind sets I suppose..1 point

I would have sat back and waited for the herd to come my way. I had some success down here today by other hunters pushing deer my way. 10 more points!1 point

I was at mine today and the roof had caved in and two of the fiberglass rods had popped out of the retainers . The blind is fastened to a platform . I went to Walmart and purchased an extendable golf ball retriever , cut off part of the round end and used it to prop up the roof after I left the blind . Hopefully , it should keep the roof up on the blind .1 point

I hunt with a Remington XP100 chambered in .35Rem. It's topped with a Leopold scope. I've taken many deer with it out to 120yds. I took a nice doe yesterday on my way to my stand as a matter of fact.1 point

I had a couple run ins with this guy during bow and gun season. During bow I had climbed out of my tree, was walking through the woods looking for sign on the way out. I look up and see him 70 yards away walking through open hard woods with a doe. Once out of sight I tried closing in on him quietly. He came back down the same trail, turned around then went back up. I drew on him at 40 yards with my climber on my back and he never gave me the shot. This past Friday I went out for a morning sit and it was snowing like crazy. Didn't see a single deer for two hours so I decided to get up and sneak through the pines. Found something that looked like a deer head about 60 yards away. Pulled up and he was bedded down looking right at me. Like an idiot, instead of waiting for him to stand up I decided I could probably shoot him in the neck. Took a crack and he ran off. No hair, no blood. Followed his tracks slowly for 200 yards and found he went right to that same brush lot where I had seen him during bow. The following day I sat right next to that brush lot on a milk crate. Beautiful 17 degrees outside with open skies. Started seeing deer early, 7:15. One doe and a spike. 20 minutes later, 3 does at 50 yards crossed into the brush lot. Half hour later a single doe crossed the same path. Popped out in the hardwoods at 40 yards and had a hard time not shooting her. Kept telling myself to just wait. 9:00 rolled around and I am just shy of being froze to the ground. Really thought about getting up and strolling through the pines again to warm up but I told myself to stick it out. 9:15, I am leaned forward looking for deer, looking to the left. When I look back to the right I see a buck standing 60 yards away looking right at me. I pull up and see that it's the buck I have been seeing. Put it on his shoulder and let the .264 win mag eat. He buckled, spun his ass around and took off into the woods. I tracked him in to that same brush lot he had run to the previous two times. Let him lay for an hour, when I came back he was stiff. Didn't make it 40 yards into the brush. My third year back from the Marines and being able to hunt. 8 Point. He is my biggest buck to date.1 point
