  1. I will guarantee that such a rule will immediately be followed by the biggest buck of my lifetime walking in at 15 yards posing broadside, and then turning around and posing with the other side exposed, followed by a sound that is very much like laughter.

  3. I like the experience of walking in to many of my spots. I also like the experience of hunting with my 80 year old father, of which he cannot walk, but sit on a bucket and wait for deer or someone to talk to . I haul him into the woods on a side by side. I don't apologize for it, I don't believe I'm any less an outdoorsman than if I walk. I also don't believe his experience is any less wonderful since he rode in. He's out enjoying being part of something, and isn't this what it is all about?

  4. I'm curious what system you would replace ours with, and exactly what have you done to make that happen besides scampering away like a frightened rabbit and fleeing the state. I'm not trying to be too critical, but it seems to me that if you have so much to say about how others face up to the problems of NYS governance, you must have some pretty good ideas on exactly what to do to straighten up the system, and a pretty impressive list of things that you have already done. And I do not consider running away from problems to be one of those things.

  6. Wow Doc - Great post. One of your best. Some us buckled down, sacrificed and put ourselves at risk with our neighbors to protect our homes and towns from the depredations of the oil and gas industry. VJP's history is to flee. First from NJ, then NY. As we say about the sheep, they are "Flighty". If he likes bad air so much, he should return to his roots. Back to NJ.

  7. So I head out turkey hunting and the wife has rearranged all my gear to fit her purposes. Great. Couldn’t find my thermacell or bug spray and its 4 AM, sooo tempted to wake her up. Go in the fridge grab some garlic and pray it works. Drive up to our hunting location and what do I see in the road… BEAUTIFUL turkey with roughly 10 inch beard, thing was HUGE jumped a stone wall and went into PRIVATE Land. Get out the car crushed some garlic and stuff a clove in each pocket and in my underwear (yeah I know) rub some on my face and neck, my hunting budy uses permathin (which I didn’t get around to doing) and looks at me like im crazy and asks if I had any marinara sauce. But by the end of the hunt after being SWARMED by mosquitoes I mean they were like a damn fog in one place we sat he got bit once on his hand when he wasn’t wearing his gloves I had no gloves and no mask and didn’t get bit once. LOVE IT. Though I smelled like garlic and even after a shower my wife still stayed away from me (another good use when she wants to argue) I didn’t have a tick or mosquito bite on me. Saw a blog about how you can put it in a blender with some water and use it as a spray. Gonna give that a try next. Course we didn’t see a single turkey in the woods, which pissed me off after seeing that great turkey coming in and a flock later going home hanging out on a private lawn. A great time was had and now I know for sure the garlic works. Still cant beat a thermacell though.

  8. Shoot 2 doe to get buck take in areas, or open it for crossbow doe only as well..one way to get full inclusion.. and In my opinion the whole reason x bow was allowed, they want/need higher deer take..

  9. Id rather them just go to OBR, get rid of the either sex tags, and give people less of a reason to pass does while they wait for Ol' Mossy Horns to walk by. Then they might not just whack the first dink that walks by for meat, then trophy hunt, they either burn that buck tag or start shooting does.

  10. It should be earn a buck...for one thing 8N where they need to get rid of doe...if you get one doe tag for there and say 8X which isn't in the area then you can only take 1 doe anyways...Freaking think DEC!!..... you DO NOT release the other 2 EXTRA tags 8N hunters can get until NOV. 1...It makes NO sense what so EVER!

  11. And that proper perspective should bear in mind the type of violence we are seeing these days on our own shores. I recognize the difference between government wanting to serve themselves, as opposed to wanting to protect US citizens, which is it's one and only primary responsibility.

  12. Nope, because IMO they wouldn't have anything to hide from law enforcement in the first place. In the 2nd place, there are plenty of legal reasons for any agency to want to enter the property that cannot be refused, especially when the agency gets a court order, like welfare and food stamp fraud, child protective services and domestic violence complaints, which have been reported at this camp. For some strange reason, local LEO's have been ordered by the Feds to stand down on anything involving this place. But I'm sure they don't pose any kind of a threat to anyone at all.

  13. I opened the back door and the front door and just let the water run through the house last night. Took out part of my driveway too. It's been a long night. Saved the guns and the computer though;-) The only place I have that's dry enough to even catch a nap right now is the front seat of my truck. I'm headed there.

  14. Time will tell if they are all just peaceful people who pose no threat. Of course, we could determine if they might be a threat right now, if anyone, including law enforcement, were even allowed past the front gates. Nothing to see here folks. Move along.

  16. The US federal government knows so very little, about so much, it's amazing they're actually able to even get themselves into so much trouble. FWIW, ad hominem arguments are, by defintiion, a sign of serious weakness. Bring your "A" game and I'll discuss this issue further. Until then....

  18. Answer the question junkie. What does the government regulate well? Give me some examples. Try guns for starters. How about healthcare? Maybe you like the EPA and it's complete over reach? Posting your insults only proves you can't intelligently debate the topic, as usual.

  19. And with that statement you lost what little credibility he had left. Even you know that is the most ludicrous, bald faced lie ever perpetuated on the American populous. If you don't, you're so delusional that the men in white suits should soon be putting you in a straight jacket. I'm beginning to see why conserve-a-turds worship Reagan so. If the old BS Artist in chief hadn't shut down the state run mental institutions, these lunatics would locked away where they wouldn't be able to spew their inane BS.

  20. Ahhhhhh you VJP are a pro corporation anti government hack. YOU are the problem here and in the rest of the country. It is the VJP's of the world who not only don't believe government can help you actively subvert government while holding the corporation up as the solution. How anyone can say with a straight face that the "industry" self regulates fine. You cherry pick history to make you points, turn a blind eye towards abuses by your beloved industry and capitalism and when confronted with the truth retire to the tried and true it'll ruin our economy, oh what is plan B? and other BS arguments. You never once speak about how we need to take back our government from the corporations instead choosing to "drown it in the bathwater". I doubt you read anything that does not support your narrow view of our supposedly dystopian society or for that matter anything hopeful or uplifting. Adam Smith who I am sure you'll brand a communist wrote in the Wealth Of Nations that the concentration of money is a treat to useful and productive capitalism. This is the same situation we have today. Eisenhower warned us about the Military Industrial Complex the very same situation we are in today. I have no doubt that none of these posts you have ever made could change your mind as you hope to change other minds, and I don't believe you give a rat ass about the NYS economy.

  21. FYI, when you are moving at highway speed or more, turning off the motor may disable the power steering, but the steering still functions adequately and is not hard to use. Because the car is moving it still works easy enough that even a petite girl could steer the car. It's only when the car is not moving the steering is very hard to use when the engine is off. If you put the car in neutral when the motor is stuck at full throttle, the engine will rev up to the point you may blow the motor. In the emergency case you are describing, turn the key one click to shut off the motor. This will not lock the steering wheel, but will shut off the motor.

  22. This weekend I started on a project Ive been meaning to do for a while. Last summer, I tore an old shed down at my fathers place, and hauled the wood home with the intentions of building a shooting house with it. I finally had some time to get started on it. Figured out what I needed to grab from Lowes and got it going. Saturday I tore all the wood down from the shed and removed nails. Sunday I started building. I got most of the framing done, just need to get the roof done, then it will be time to figure out exactly how Im gonna do the windows and add a door. This one will be elevated, somewhere between 10 and 14 feet up. The dimensions of the shooting house are 7 feet wide by 4 feet deep, 6 feet tall at the back and 7 feet at the front. It will have carpet, insulation and shelves in the corners. Should make for a nice place to take the kids on a cold, rainy or windy day.

  24. 10 years ago I was out on opening day of bow in morning just as sun came up I heard a gun shot on the property line about 400 yds away. Make a long story short I kinda know who it was and I called DEC on them. I waited around for them and nothing. i was not even anonymous gave them my information too. They never came. 2 hours later these humps were at the cumberland farms parking lot with big buck in the back of truck. DEC never even came out there. I called again and they said " they are looking into it and that they got bombarded with the same type of complaint that morning" But i got them boarding my boat looking to see if I have my free marine license on me. There a friggin joke

  27. Pretty well...still skinny...I raked leafs off part of this area ...their favorite clover spot...but broke the rake...getting new handle today and fertilizer. Barely peeking through and the deer are on it hard...they took the bigger clover plot down to runners but the sm. Burnett is growing well. I honestly was hoping not to see the buck back this year...Seeing last year they moved in and I ended up having a dismal season...doe left and then just at season open...they did too... But there are doe now as well..... a few pics. Disregard date/time...didn't fix when batteries were replaced..

  28. Insurances rising has to do with the (stupid) actions of people not the invention of stuff. Like most things.. it only takes a few idiots to ruin a good thing... the ATV is no exception. I'm not a big fan of ATVs for getting in an out of your hunting spot.. but they are great for getting out a deer!

  29. There is hunting lazy and there is hunting smart. I don't have an atv because I'm lazy. I don't knock anyone who chooses not to use one. I too, have walked and dragged deer miles in my time hunting. Would I rather walk to work or drive...................hmmm.............I think I'll use the best tool for the job.
