Yeah, I know several people who have seen numerous pumacougars..A couple of them were even SOBER. The hard part is trying to keep a straight face when they tell me about it. I usually just smile and NOD....7 points

I do have to admit when I was younger I did have a couple encounters with a cougar. She got a hold of me and dam near killed me. I almost die with a smile on my face.6 points

The lack of physical evidence, combined with the unreliability of observers makes it unlikely there are ever more than an occasional wanderer.5 points

In all fairness, there were probably still some of these hanging around when you were a kid.4 points

There are more alleged sightings in NY then in states that have documented, huntable populations. In spite of these "sightings" no one has ever produced/posted a verifiable bit of actual evidence - picture, scat, dna, hair, etc. Seems the NY version has the ability to be invisible on camera, walk floating above ground, and never leave a hint of their physical presence. The only evidence left was by the one killed in Ct by a car that was tracked from out west. One of the dumb ones unlike it's NY relatives.4 points

I'd just like to say that I am very happy to see another veteran turkey hunter, my good friend Maytom, posting on the forum on a regular basis. Did he ever tell you that Dick Kirby used to cut his hair ?...<<GRIN>>..... We have shared some good times...3 points

I happened to be passing through Ilion, NY yesterday and stopped at the Remington museum/company store. They had about 15 no-name, unbranded, 3-9x (32 mm objective) scopes from China for sale with rings for $20. I had to pick one up for that price. Unused, but no box or paperwork with them. The girl at the counter didn't know anything about them, but said she did know that there wasn't anything wrong with them, they were most likely clearing obsolete inventory. I probably wouldn't put it on anything bigger than a .22 or .17. I didn't need it, but for $20, I figured why not?3 points

Everyone knows the DEC released mountain lions to control the coyote population. I know a guy who knows a guy who's uncle found out from a DEC guy3 points

this pic was taken in Williamsville, non hunting area. I know there was an almost totally white 6 pointer in the area a few years ago, and I've seen a couple of piebald deer in the area, but this deer looks black and white. Anyone ever seen anything like this?2 points

I often wonder about the guys that use all the "scent blocking" tech while gun hunting W/a smelly gun.2 points

My guns go through hell up in the ADK especially if it rains. Simply put I need a stainless steal composite gun for that area. 2 weeks in high humidity is simply bad for metal parts. I try to clean the barrel every 40-50 rounds or if I notice poor accuracy or 2 range shoots. I try to keep them oiled but rust is always an issue. I usually run 10 or more patches of cleaner along with dry patches down the barrel and then last but not least is an oil patch. I use Q-tips and old tooth brushes for the fire mechanism and smaller moving parts by the action. Another reason I do not worry so much about scent, my guns stink of gun oil.2 points

A flash drive, yes, RAM, no. You need power to hold data in a RAM module. Turn the power off, and it might be there for milliseconds.2 points

I put it in a small metal box, pour molten steel into it. Close up the box. Then I buy a portable hole and a rocket from Acme Inc. Make sure you get from Wile-E and not Bugs. Drop box into the hole. Peal the hole from the floor, fold it up and lock it into a second metal box. Attach this box to the rocket. Shoot the rocket towards Mars. Marvin the Martian will then blast the rocket into smithereens with his laser. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Rain isn't going to do much to it. The data is still there. But most people simply over panic about it. It up to $2000-3000 to recover all data from a broken hard drive. No one is going to drop that kind of money just to see if you MAY have something on that hard drive unless you're a valued target like a CEO, a terrorist leader, or a celebrity. I have to disagree with Shawn. Not only is driving deer and bear legal in NY, but at one time it was the the "standard" method of hunting, at least if the southwestern part of NY. Much of the land was agricultural at that time and landowners would get together parties of 20 or more hunters and drive large areas for deer. In later years, since much of the land has become broken up into smaller parcels for recreational use, driving is not as practical as it once was. Some public lands have specific regulations, but if there is any regulation against driving deer on public land, I am unaware of it. Welcome to the forum and good luck !2 points

I am well aware of the potential problems due to recoil when scoping break barrel air rifles, the NP Trail will be a good test for the Bugbuster, if she holds up I should be OK. When it comes to problem guns like this Benjamin I can and will usually come up with a solution and fix myself, been at this kind of stuff for a long time and I like the challenge. Al1 point

Shucks, Bill, I heard about sightings when I was a kid in the 1950s and 60s... There never seemed to be any physical evidence THEN either....Hmmm...1 point

I'm pretty sure any carcass trap sets need to be completely concealed from above to lessen the chance raptor or other birds will be attracted to them. I'm also pretty sure snares aren't legal in NY. From DEC site:1 point

I have a hard enough time all bundled up sitting on stand for more than an hour when temps dip below 30 degrees. I guess it would depend on how much meat the gal had on her bones. If you really got in a bind, a hefty chick could provide enough food, shelter, heat, AND water....., if you can find the wet spots!1 point

Those volumes, and volumes, and volumes of gun laws really worked well there .....eh? I wonder if they filled out all that paper work that we have to fill out when we get a gun....... "Only the outlaws will have guns"1 point

Surest way is with a degauser which costs thousands of dollars. Sends an electro-magnetic charge through it and destroys everything. Less expensive is a software that'll write gibberish over everything. The cheapest way is to set them up 100 yards down range and put several rounds through them with something 30 caliber or higher and hope that you're not important enough for people to send an entire team of forensic experts to scavenge what little is left. I just mounted one of those 3X9 Bugbusters on a Benjamin Air rifle, I have not had the opportunity to sight the gun in yet so I can not say how well it performs but from what I am seeing it looks very nicely made. The one thing I can say it is very heavy for it's compact size. Al1 point

After the gun is sighted in off the lead sled. Of course, you then shoot off hand, with shooting stick, sitting, kneeling or any way you might shoot while hunting. But before any of that. I need to be sure that gun is spot on. moog said it best. I'm a hunter not a sniper.1 point
