  2. Wooly, first off my condolences. I ran to try and save her but was too late. My son and I were fishing the Susquehanna today when we came across her, face down in the river. We had a silent moment and bowed our heads and got back to fishing.

  3. LOL. Saw on another board where some leather holster guy fabricated a special holster for this sissy... it held a tampon. Apparently, it was recently delivered! Now that's funny.

  4. For deer at "regular, normal" ranges, the 7mm-08 is about perfect IMO. For longer shots, the mags (belted or unbelted) may be a better choice. Just my $.02.

  6. My inconclusive travel plans for 2016..... I have been in many places, but I've never been in Cahoots. Apparently, you can't go alone. You have to be in Cahoots with someone. I've also never been in Cognito. I hear no one recognizes you there. I have, however, been in Sane. They don't have an airport; you have to be driven there. I have made several trips there, thanks to my friends, family and work. I would like to go to Conclusions, but you have to jump, and I'm not too much on physical activity anymore. I have also been in Doubt. That is a sad place to go, and I try not to visit there too often. I've been in Flexible, but only when it was very important to stand firm. Sometimes I'm in Capable, and I go there more often as I'm getting older. One of my favorite places to be is in Suspense! It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart!

  7. I apparently am doing it all wrong. Haven't kept a steelhead, salmon, perch, smallmouth, panfish etc in 20 years and I still have lots of fun doing it. I'm in it for the fun.

  8. Well Whichever of you selfish SOBs caught the last smallmouth in Lake Erie/Upper Niagara ... I HOPE IT WAS DELICIOUS!!

  9. I'm in it for the fun as well and it isn't wrong at all. I do not eat much fish at all but do on occasion keep a few trout and perch to fry up, and everything else is released. Just remember some of those fish that are kept as a "food source" were most likely released by someone else prior so you could enjoy them. Funny little game life is, isnt it?

  11. That is correct...In order to gain any benefit from the extra 10-15 grains of powder, you need at least a 24" barrel...26" is better.... A 20" OR 22" 7mm Mag is basically a LOUD, fire breathing, powder wasting .280 Rem...Check out the barrel lengths on most commercially produced belted mags. Most are at least 24" ..There is a REASON for that. As I said, they are a niche cartridge...Good at killing stuff at longish ranges, but to achieve the ballistic advantage you need a longer barrel to take advantage of the slower burning powders that produce the higher velocities.

  13. Well my new Stryker katana was delivered Thursday after a couple hundred shots I can say I'm in love with my it, fast, quiet and I can decock it like my old Excalibur. I hope NY never makes it full inclusion as I am completely happy with a 2 week season, and it splits up the seasons nicely. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  14. I live in northern NJ and have been hunting Sterling Forest for many years. I met some guys in Sterling during turkey season who got me interested in Stewart SF. I came on here to get some info and opinions. I will definitely be hunting pheasants there in October. Primarily to scout it for deer season, but will have the bonus of shooting some birds. I haven't been to serious about bird hunting since my dog died years ago. I imagine it gets pretty crowded on weekends during pheasant stocking.

  15. Howdy all... from sunny Florida. I've just joined and am looking forward to socializing. Lest not everyone think I'm an intruder... I was born and raised in NYS. Have been hunting there since the 60's. Our family has a small parcel (with cabin) in Steuben Co. that has served me well for many years. I took my first bucks back then with recurves and slugs! I moved up to vertical bows and rifles as the situations permitted. Now, I'm hunting with crossbow and rifles... since NY (and Steuben) has allowed their usage. NYS is a great place... save the cold and political climate. However, I left in 1976 to pursue educational and employment upgrades. I do get back every fall... and will likely do so till I take the eternal dirt nap. It's a way of life. In case anybody is curious, I go by bugsNbows. That's because I'm an Entomologist (semi-retired) by training...(the bows being self explanatory). LOL Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking' to it.

  25. One thing I've always kept in mind: "If at first you don't succeed...skydiving is probably not for you." I've had enough first-time failures in my life to know better than to push my luck.

  27. I know its not the best time of year to be planting trees.. but I planted 2 white oak trees this pass Sunday in memory of my father and his best friend who were killed in a car accident back in March. When i bought these from Nativ Nurseries, I figured why not buy a few more and plant them around the property, for the price its not a big hit if failed. ill keep them watered and fertilized as best possible. and if they take awesome, if not i will plant them come fall, or early spring. I planted with the plan of watering them every couple of days.. i bought 10 White oak, and 10 Deer pear trees. Planted half of each of them at the bottom of a food plot, which normally stays moist all year even in a drought and the other half on the west side of a new small staging area food plot i started the week before his accident.. Worse case ill plant when the timing is right.. not a big deal.. thought it would be worth a shot, and an accomplishment if they all take off and thrive.. the one pic is a second staging plot between bed and food.. freshly planted in clover(june 5th)

  29. No if you look close you can see one of the raccoons ears...Now between the mulberries, apples and my Kiwi the raccoon here get HUGE......I have had them so fat by fall they literally have a difficult time climbing trees...lol So I took some shots of what a loaded tree looks like...remember they have been eating mulberries for a couple of weeks..heavy on birds as well..took this today.

  36. I am more interested in the bolt action. 1st time I need a fast follow up shot and fumble for a slug I'll be kicking myself. Granted, accuracy should mean one lethal shot, but nothing ALWAYS works how we want

  44. I bought the Mrs. skydiving from here a few years back for her birthday. I even paid extra for the parachute for her We did get the video. It's to Kryptonite and Free Falling music .(you get to pick the music) After being too windy twice the third time was the charm. Although that day it was too cloudy and weren't allowed to jump. We went down the street for breakfast and halfway through my phone rang. "There's a hole in the clouds, you can jump" We boxed eats up and quickly went back. Yup, she jumped through hole in clouds. She's also bungee jumped and now wants to zipline across Niagara falls. I'll pass on all of the above.

  45. Picture from our fishing trip a month ago. Just before I broke my wrist and needed 2 1/2 hours of surgery to repair, effectively putting my fishing on hold. Darn it! Can't get fish pics to post right. I'll try again tomorrow. Wait...wait...I think I got it! Halibut and King salmon from Cook Inlet, on the Kenai Peninsula where I live these days.

  48. If this is someone's vision of 'the new American man' we have a serious problem. On the other hand, I've been laughing hysterically about it all day in between muttering obscenities. A prescription for 'growaset' and a few weeks in 'man-camp' are in order.
