  2. I thought a post of views from the stand would be nice. Most are now trimming lanes and checking stands so it's a good time to take some pics to let us see what you do. I rarely take pics while hunting ...I try not moving much ...though in the blinds it's easier. So before or during hunting take a pic or two and take us on stand with you,as it were. I'll start with and old pic.

  5. 3D league is on Tuesday evenings. Hunting setups. Yardages vary out past 50 yards at times. No range finders allowed. This was first arrow today/this evening. 30 yards I figure. This was first arrow for second group of targets up the hill. Figured the ram to be somewhere between 35 and 40 but closer to 35 (two of my pins evenly split) than 40. Making up a week so moving to a different stake at times but shooting two arrows at each target. Exactly four arrows in....

This fall he is 6.5yr or older. in 2013 he is at least a 3.5yr old.. Still have a few cards to pull. hopefully the other 2 old guys are on them..

  12. Grampy was so generous in sending my son, who is addicted to bass fishing, a HUGE assortment of his best bass lures/rigs. It was a complete surprise for my son and he was almost speechless. What a great gift from a great guy/fisherman. I hear my son now commenting on all the great tackle. Thanks so much Dave. I have never seen my son more excited. I know you will be blessed in kind. You were way too generous! He is planning to go out and put that tackle to use tonight It's so great to see a man like Grampy with such a big heart share his passion with my son. And tips from a pro like you is over the top. You made a big impression on Joel (and me)!

  18. Great rifle stand in the southern tier. Deer usually make there way up this side of the hill in the early morning hours working their way back to bedding....took a few deer from this stand the last couple years and was lucky enough to double on a buck and doe opening morning 2015. Made a 115-120 yard shot on the buck directly down this view from and elevated platform I rebuilt named Stair Way to Heaven by the camp owner. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

  20. I probably shouldn't have mentioned that spot of state land. Never thought about the number of people who would read it and flood it out with pressure. As for no arguing, don't jinx it people! LOL. I can't express my appreciation for the help and kindness of people on this thread and many of the people on this site. I have learned a few things by being a member here.

  24. Thanks I just came in from discing that entire lane way...now I am going down to finish opening the parallel shooting lane in the top picture in the woods. They walk through and stop...because I put low brush piles the entire length...that hesitation before jumping into plot is just enough time for a good shot...I also need to open up the trees to a few oaks on the edge of that and so more sun gets to it. I then will (from top pic) plant turnips to about end of where that ladder is,130yrds. From there to (second picture) I will plant 150 yrds of Wht Institutes chicory plus...from there to the corn out front will be WW and turnips. I do need to run...after last year I know I need to open up the woods behind that blind...It's where I shot an 8pt in gun and I got lucky in that he did run through the only opening I had in the woods...It's a bit tight in there as you can see in the picture... TF that reminds me of the upper woods at camp...nice spot...

  26. Thanks everyone, but I really don't deserve any fuss. Joel called me last night! What an awesome young man, (must take after his dad). You see, in the past I have been on the receiving end, of acts of kindness and generosity from members on this forum,(you guy's know who you are). I'm just paying forward in a small way, to a wonderful young man, who I'm sure will carry on with that. And who doesn't like to see kids hunting and fishing? We need to encourage them all we can. They are the future of this outdoors life that we love so much. Look at the picture from above. Our future is in good hands.

  29. DEC ANNOUNCES NEW DEER AND BEAR HUNTING REGULATIONS The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today unveiled new regulations concerning deer and bear hunting, DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos announced today. These regulations increase opportunities for junior hunters to take bears, rescind an antlerless-only rule from 2015 in portions of southeastern New York and the Lake Plains, reduce antlerless harvests in two management units in the western Adirondacks, and clarify when special season tags may be used by bow and muzzleloader hunters. “We rely on hunters to help us meet our science-based population management goals, and these new regulations will help us explore alternative season structures that will advance improved population management,” said Commissioner Seggos. “The youth hunt has been very popular with families across the state, and we’re pleased to offer this expanded opportunity for junior hunters.” The new bear hunting regulation now includes the taking of bears in the youth firearms hunt over Columbus Day weekend that was previously a deer-only event. The 2015 regulation that prohibited harvest of antlered deer during portions of the bow and muzzleloader seasons in Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) 1C, 3M, 3S, 4J, 8A, 8C, 8F, 8G, 8H, 9A, and 9F has been rescinded, allowing the take of both antlered and antlerless deer during the entire bow and muzzleloader seasons in these units. In these WMUs, deer populations are above desired levels, and the antlerless-only rule was implemented in 2015 as part of a multi-phase process to increase antlerless harvest. However, reported harvest of female deer did not differ substantially between the WMUs with the antlerless-only periods and nearby WMUs without the rule, nor did the antlerless-only periods increase reported female take as desired. In contrast, deer populations in WMUs 6F and 6J have been declining, so harvest of antlerless deer is now prohibited during the early muzzleloader season in these units. Winter weather conditions are a primary driver of deer abundance in the northern part of the state, and the winters of 2013 and 2014 were especially harsh. Coupled with mild conditions this past winter, reducing the harvest of antlerless deer should prevent further population decline and stimulate growth. The DEC expects this change to be temporary. The final regulatory change is simply a technical correction to clarify that hunters who purchase both the bow and muzzleloader license privileges may use the Bow/Muzzleloader either-sex and Bow/Muzzleloader antlerless-only deer tags in either season or both in one of the seasons with the appropriate implement. This has always been DEC's intent, but ambiguity in the previous wording of the regulation could have led to confusion. Hunters who purchase just one of the special season privileges are still only allowed to use the Bow/Muzzleloader tag during that particular special season. Under the 2016-17 budget, Governor Cuomo’s NY Open for Fishing and Hunting Initiative provides $3 million for State land access projects and $4 million for hunting and fishing infrastructure. The 2015-16 budget also created a new capital account, which, along with federal Pittman-Robertson funds, will be used to manage, protect and restore fish and wildlife habitat and will improve and develop public access for fish and wildlife-related recreation. This year’s commitment builds on the previous $6 million in funding for 50 new projects to provide access to approximately 380,000 acres of existing State lands for recreation, including boat launches, bird-watching areas, trails and hunting blinds, and $8 million for upgrades and improvements to fish hatcheries statewide. ###

  30. Was out working in the lake today when we came up on a boat engulfed in flames. Apparently the dad and kids got off in time and were ok. Fire on my boat is a big fear of mine.

  31. I don't eat the horns and sadly only have seen perhaps 3 wall hangers in my life while in the woods deer hunting. And I average over 100+ hours a year lol. Ray Charles would have a better chance at shooting one than I

  32. Very nice! So they did actually listen to hunters about the doe only for the first 2 weeks. Probably because the goals where not met to what they expected. Very happy I will be hunting opening day of bow this year, look out doe you are on the radar now!

  34. Yeah that's not a bad idea to go to a bow shop. I'm in canandaigua and there are a few around. I'm go a get good at this thing. I'm just glad I'm starting now with two months to practice unlike my start with a 12 gauge last year that I bought the night before opening day.

  35. Best advice I can give you is get a loop installed and a caliper release. Finger shooting is an art and as mentioned above if you've got a short axle to axle bow its even more difficult . You'll be used to it in just a handful of shots

  36. I've run them in the summer as long as its was not too hot and only in the morning but I think its more me not being able to handle the bugs and the heat. If I do I usually don't run them for more than an hour and as long as it is cool. I mainly run them to get them into shape as they tend to get a little plump and need to build up their endurance prior to opening day.

  39. Speaking of PR though....was up there for a ride around tonight. Picked up my new old truck lol. I traded this truck in 3 years ago and just bought it back again lol. Timing was right and I really liked this truck. Once I saw it I knew I had to have it again. Just picked it up after work today. Had to go get a little mud on the tires and look for deer. They are doing some logging up in PR. Lots of deer out and about tonight too! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  44. I left my cameras out all year. I moved 2 of them to the new food plots I just planted so I could keep an eye on what if any frequent the plots. Here is a couple of pics from the cards that were in the cameras before I moved them. The buck in the front is the same in both pics, but the rear deer is 2 different bucks. 1 has a drop tine on his right side!

  45. Yea I would delete the pics and just send to Rob. I am proud to be a member here with a lot of you good folks!! I started bow hunting all self taught many moons ago and saved up to buy a cheap Bear Whitetail 2. That thing is a dinosaur compared to some of todays technology but man I shot a bunch of deer with it!! You don't need a new fancy bow to shoot deer that is for sure, just some time and patience. Let us know what arrows you end up shooting out of it I or some of us may have some lying around. I find the extras to actually be more $ than the bow!! I have a bunch of arrows I have moved on from as I am sure others do.

  48. Biz ...that really isn't the point,at least for me. For me well it's a publication that encourages hunting and youth hunting. Now in hunting families where hunting kids will read this ...or at the least hit the bragging section...It sends a real bad message. Then putting your feet back in your younger self's shoes...picture waiting all those years to hunt legally with your dad. Then sitting there as he tries to re enforce following the hunting laws and ethics while a picture of a 6 yr old that reportedly shot a big ole turkey 6 years earlier than he was or you were allowed to...That's the point.
