Shaped up and ready for heat treating and tempering. Many don't pre grind any bevel, but I wanted the practice as the techniques are the same but on a soft blank. The edge isn't complete, about .020 left to grind and that should prevent warping on the cutting edge. Heating to 1375 in my home built forge for 10 minutes and then quench in warm vegetable oil, and then heat to 400 for an hour two times waiting for slow cool down in between. I've done small woodworking bits, we'll see how this goes.5 points

We went salmon fishing out of Port Ontario Pulaski yesterday and had a great day on the water. Boated 11 fish all together, with about 6 strikes that we missed out on. Pictured are 8 of the largest fish, but all fish were processed and are in the freezer. Looking forward to smoking one of those giant filets soon!4 points

I'm trying to replace photobucket and testing out some images here. Going on a hunt in Oct. and want a new knife to take along so doing a scandi grind bushcraft style knife, 01 tool steel. I have lots of wood for scales (handle); maybe some couple hundred year old American walnut, or maybe some Turkish walnut left over from a stock, not sure. Spent an hour on the smaller of two this morning annealing and giving it some shape from some internet pattern. Need to build a small furnace for heat treating next3 points

The more I hear of this goin on and Dec does nothing about the problem makes me wonder.. Why don't they change the season dates so people will actualy hunt for them I mean come on I think opening coyote season the same day deer opens is just plain stupid . If they made the season open earlier than October it would make a difference because allot of coyotes are more responsive to calls now than say deer season when there are allot of people in the woods...just a rant3 points

You would be surprised how many dogs can be" Struck by Lightning" for a week or so after taking hay off a field. Young of the year are not real bright then and a fella can put a good dent in the local population Well that's what I hear anyways! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

I came home from last trip to South Africa with some "sneezewood" and did similar to fill some fairly loose material but with epoxy (West Systems) for some pens. Came out nice and sent them back as gifts to some friends there. This Turkish takes oil quite well so that's what it will get. Wood is easy part; I have several thousand board feet to choose from and when I get some unique figure I have stock piled that for many years for personal projects.2 points

I had family members on me heavily when I said I was voting for him. (he wasn't my Republican pick). I told them if the only thing that I saw get done was at least one strict Constitutional Justice appointment I would be happy. Well I got one and I't looking like Ruth's seat could be another. I guess I didn't set my bar very high but given the crop we had to choose from I think I have an excuse...lol. Yeah. I don't see him changing. Only possibility is if the kids get a leash on him.2 points

I agreed with Trump when he said that today they will tear down Robert E Lee's statue and tomorrow they will go after Jefferson and Washington. The liberal media wants to rewrite history the way they want it written so they are fanning the flames to this nonsense. Their job is to blow everything out of proportion. They are making it sound like half of the population of the US are Nazi's which is BS. How many American Nazi's are in jails for crimes committed in comparison to blacks in the US? Of course no one will ever bring this up in the mainstream media. At the same time the Nazi's and others that were in Charleston supposedly to protest the tearing down of the statue surely won't win support of very many in the media or elsewhere by marching and yelling racial and anti-jewish statements like the video showed. I've always said that you can call just about anyone anything in this country, but make a negative comment about a jew, and you will never get away with it. The people on the other side who took it upon themselves to tear down the statues should definitely be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. No excuses for vandalizing public or private property. I don't blame Trump for letting the liberal media have it, but he doesn't help himself one bit by always acting like a childish baffoon, where he is more interested in winning a petty fight with someone than honestly addressing the issue at hand. I am honestly starting to think he won't get anything of any value accomplished in his term. He may get the far-right to think of him as the God Emperor, but I can assure everyone that he is slowly but surely digging a big hole for himself, one which he may not be able to pull himself out of. His bravado will wear off on many of those who voted for him if doesn't start to get things done. Yeah, yeah, I know it won't be long before someone here says, "Yeah, but he is still better than Hillary". I get that to a point, but in my mind two losers don't bring us a winner.2 points

If you buy them, fold down the uppers for easy on and off. I only push up the uppers when I am wearing them, otherwise, they stay folded down to take on or off and air them out when not being worn.2 points

Little foggy on the way in Horizon was pretty foggy I've got some growth on the old logging trail we worked on. Thank you Growie and Let em Grow for your incite, much appreciated! Deer are already munching on it and it's just coming up. I'll have to check next week and maybe overseed a few bare spots. Upon entering the woods at dawn I had birds gobbling on roost. Pretty neat to hear mid summer. Some yelps and mostly clucks from the hens had the boys ripping. Managed a decent amount of black berries for the girls yogurt and cereal for breakfast when I get home. Busted out a big boy right after crossing the trout stream. Big body and horn is all I saw. Never put up his flag. Hope to get him on cam. Nothing better than starting your day off in the woods. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Once again, thank you all! I had a great day (yea, believe it or not!) at work. A couple of bottles of booze from co-workers was just icing on the cake, then the boss bought lunch. The wife had to work tonight so the kids and I had pizza with cake to follow in a bit. My wife and I spent a few days at Keuka Lake State Park and today was hers and mine first day back at work since Friday. We took the boat and camped at the State Park. Only fished a couple mornings but had good fun..........Tacks (The_Real_TCIII) and his very nice young nephew came down Sunday morning to fish. Tacks brought his boat and launched out of the same spot as I did. He and the young man easily out fished Kathy and I but our morning was cut short when her cell phone battery died. After they pulled their boat out, they came into camp and had lunch with us. We had a great visit....... Monday night Kathy & I met Dan and his lady friend (Pygmy & The Mermaid) in Hammondsport for dinner at the Union Block Bistro for dinner. I can't endorse that place enough enough, actually it was almost as good as the company. We headed back to civilization after dinner and rolled into town around 9:30 or so. It's been a super bunch of days, all told. Thanks again for the well wishes!2 points

I don't think the Nazi scum give two craps about a statue, it was a way to spread their hate and attempt to intimidate folks. I read today about how Robert E Lee felt about monuments, he hated the idea.1 point

I only wear mucks. Woody elites. I usually buy them either late or post season as they can be found for less much then (around $120 vs 199). They are plenty warm for any weather with a pair of good sock liners and socks, but my feet don't sweat too much even early season. They are waterproof for sure. And for me very comfortable/easy to remove. Great if you have a wide (EEE) foot like me. The neoprene uppers can occasionally puncture when trekking through thorns, but its easily repaired with that neoprene glue. My first pair from 5 years ago are still being used. I have 3 other pairs that I have begun to break in. Bought em because they were cheap post season. Should be good for the next 20 years or so.1 point

Know your food besides the obvious...like oak and wild apples. Here they love wild elderberry brush, hickory, beech, hop horn, poison ivy and wild rose. Isolated swampy areas. Dogwood brush/berries. Those large ateas of golden rod are deer magnets..Doc is right about some areas and the far back approach. Remember our archery shooting restriction is now only 150 ft...That said you still HAVE TO HAVE RECOVERY PERMISSION on private land. MY best buck area is a tiny swamp 411ft wide between homes with a ton of activity. Some guys find near the parking areas to be the best. Scouting will tell you ..look for cams and foot traffic in the wet ground,it will save you time on where not to go...especially close to rut and weekends...areas of wild buck thorn...not great food for them unless little is around...but man great cover they will hang in...our camp 8X and surrounding lands are choked with it. Gullies and revines travel areas. I mention these things because I don't know what Ohio terrain is like for you...1 point

The problem is that people on this forum apparently don't want to tell this to him directly, so he thinks he is loved and continues the nonsense. The moderators obviously won't do anything about him, so the next best solution is to keep sending him posts like the one you made above. I doubt he'll get the picture, but this should NOT stop us from sending him OUR love! +100 to your post!!1 point

Why not New York? We have monster bucks out here but I like to see new areas. It's roughly 2-2.5 hours from home to the area I'm thinking about hunting. Not a bad drive at all. I just love to hunt, I enjoy hunting new areas and I've never hunted NY so I'd like to give it a shot.1 point

Went to see new spot of land this morning. A little disappointing- I didn't see much deer sign. Lots of acorns and a little swamp in spots but it's pretty wide open, not much high grass or weeds. I didn't see any deer crap or buck rubs, but the owners said they see deer all the time so maybe they pass through? I put up 2 cams but they don't work great and 1 of them can't register the correct time/date. I guess we'll see the cams show in a few weeks. I can access the property from a parking spot on A back road which is good. I think the best spot would be to basically walk to the middle of the property where there is a raised rocky area and then sit there and overlook the swampy areas as well as the flat areas where acorns are. I found 1 really old tree stand. There are also some pallets in the woods that the previous owners used for their kids to play paintball. I'm sure the old treestand was from a hunter because I also found a screw in step on a nearby broken tree and found a rusted old bow hanger rod hangin from a broken tree. That's all for now I guess we'll see what the cams show. There is a nearby farm and store where the deer probably frequent for food I assume. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point
