After a disappointing archery trip to illinois, my nephew and I were able to redeem ourselves. I killed this heavy bodied target 8 on my new land in the NZ and my nephew connected with a beautiful 9 in the SZ. Im much prouder of these NY deer than I would have been with an Illinois kill. So overall, we had a great season.6 points

These things are great because they are dual purpose. They make dragging a deer out easier, and if the wearer croaks over it’s easier to drag them out. Lol2 points

I always pack light. 3 ft of nylon rope and a butt-out tool work ok dragging, especially if there is a little snow. I have very rarely needed to drag one further than about 50 yards, to where I could get at it with a tractor, field-car or ATV. When I’m hunting the mountains, in areas without atv or tractor access, I try and do it mostly at higher elevations, such that the drag will be downhill. The farthest that I ever dragged a deer (when I was in my early thirties) was about 5 miles thru the Rocky Mountains. I’m in my late 50’s now, but in as good or better shape than I was back then. Staying in decent physical condition does not take that much effort, and it makes a lot of sense for more than just keeping the ability to drag out a deer carcass. If it’s getting harder for you to drag out a deer, consider getting yourself a stationary bike and/or a rowing machine and get yourself back into shape. If you’re so “stove-up” now, that you don’t think you could drag a 150 pound deer carcass out of a particular spot, you probably should not be venturing there alone for any reason, anyhow.2 points

Wear your snake-bite proof boots down there!!! Best of luck2 points

I have been using one of these harnesses for a good long time, I have found them to be the best when it comes to dragging out a Deer on my own even as an old geezer, and they do not cost much. Al2 points

Personally I think the 7mm-08 is a wonderful Deer hunting cartridge and it checks a lot of boxes, I do not have one but all the parameters and the actual hunting use of many hunters point to it as being very effective. I do have experience with 7 mm cartridges, one of my favorite rifles is chambered in 280 Remington, a couple of ticks up in performance over the 7 mm-08. I have killed a bunch of Deer with that rifle and also several Moose. I refrain from using the term the best because there are so many different ways and techniques to hunt it would be hard to actually prove. What may work out to be the best for me might not be so great for a hunter that hunts differently. These days the cartridge-gun choices have never been better, let the good times roll. Al2 points

I got a decent doe during early muzzleloader and a smaller doe a few days later with my bow. The regular gun season here in the northern tier was horrible all I seen for bucks was a handful of spikes. Overall not my worst ever but certainly not one of my better seasons. Going down for Christmas to NC to see my boys I'm hoping to get a few hunts in with my youngest down there. Sent from my moto g power (2022) using Tapatalk2 points

Well the 2023 season is now a wrap for me. I again found a hit list of 3 of the top bucks in my hunting area of one of the greatest places in the state in Letchworth and it was one of those three or bust… Unless an even bigger buck showed itself. Was lucky enough to keep track of the three and harvesting one of them until the rut carried them off to yonder lands. He green scored 127 plus. Once guns started banging my standards are lowered to nothing but a mature buck regardless of size. The 2nd 8pt was a fighter for sure. Cut ear, holes in his hide on his forehead and an infected puncture wound in behind his front leg. Filled a couple freezer queens to keep things in check.1 point

My thinking is; this is all meant to try and raise enough tension to actually trigger a response from people who have had it up to their ears with the obvious BS. This in turn will give the political overlords a reason to lock everyone down, instill fear, further divide us, label and lock up people who speak out, so they can take control over the next election “for the sake of our democracy”. I hope people see through this scheme, remain peaceful, and don’t fall for their trap.1 point

Good advice wolc, I do not think there is enough emphasis talked about here about the importance of diet and good physical condition. There are many hunters that keel over in the woods every year from lack of taking care of their health. Al1 point

I have to say the cheap plastic sleds tip easily on uneven ground so you have to tie your load to the sled. Not sure if jet sled is immune to that but I would tie the load down just after experiences I've had with the flat ones.1 point

The article is making a case for the 7mm-08 being the best whitetail round considering a multitude of factors from ballistics to recoil. It doesn't claim other rounds aren't good for deer hunting. It simply makes a case why the 7mm-08 has advantages over other rounds. Nobody is saying anyone needs to buy a new rifle in 7mm-08, but if a new hunter is getting into deer hunting and needs his first deer rifle, the case being made is a 7mm-08 might be his best choice. At the end of the article, the author even makes a request of the reader. He asks for a good debate. Is anyone going to accept his challenge and refute his case with counterpoints?1 point

The Colorado Supreme Court has now set up expectations for Democrats across the country that Trump can be legally barred from the presidency — and when the Supreme Court overturns that Colorado Supreme Court ruling, they will claim that the Supreme Court itself is rigged. All of which means that 2024 is going to be the most insane and ugly presidential election in American history. And that's saying a lot, since 1968 and 2020 are both years that existed. Under what circumstances, precisely, would Democrats accept the result of a Trump election? Under what circumstances, precisely, would Republicans accept the result of a Biden election? The weaponization of the legal system creates an all-consuming fire, burning everything in its path. There is simply no 2024 result likely to result in anything but complete — and perhaps violent — chaos at this point.1 point

We should be so lucky to get a Trump clone for governor. But, that will never happen here in NYS. No one who would upset the status quo apple-cart in this state will ever be elected. The pinko crowd is too eager to elect whoever promises them the most freebies. The whole culture of this state has been manipulated to favor the "give-away establishment". We all let it happen, and it will take a miracle to vote in someone who is not promising the freeloaders a continuation of the government handouts on backs of the employed. Yes, that is a defeatist attitude, but it is the reality of what is driving people and businesses out of the state. We need a Trump-style governor to straighten up the direction of this state.1 point

I had a good season killed two does. the place I hunt now has lots of does from years of shooting only bucks and letting does walk. so, there are lots of small bucks but not many good bucks. We are now trying to manage it better the downside. the land is in 9P so it's hard to get doe permits we are working with the landowner on getting DMAPS for the next few years.1 point

A lot of people love the Jet sled. Personally I can't see something that's going to apply friction on the ground being a better alternative to something with wheels. I'll take a wheeled cart any day of the week. Better yet a wheeled cart with an e-bike even better. [emoji23] Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk1 point

Agreed; this is setting the stage for potential political violence, ultimately leading to civil war , i'm afraid.0 points

Mine was awful for the second year in a row. It was so bad I don't even want to look back in my journal to see how much time I spent in the woods. The only good weekend I had was during the youth deer hunt. My daughter and I saw a lot of deer and she put a shot into a buck that by the reaction of the buck looked good but after waiting a couple of hours to go look there was no sign of hair or blood in the field where he was standing. We went to where he entered the woods and found 3 tiny drops of blood and nothing else. I still have 1.5 days to hunt the late holiday season but I really have no expectations of getting a deer. I just want to hunt so I can say I never gave up.0 points
