Wow you caught them sparring! That is just pathetically awesome! Thanks for sharing!

OMG that shot of the fawn was great!

Demand his first born be put up for sacrifice! I would do the same as Jeremy K and see how the guy who owns the property wants it handled. Then post GPS position on this forum and let everyone call it in. Then inform the neighbor that the PETA guys posted your position on www.huntingny.com!

Just sounds like he is venting, I understand. It can be frustrating. We do need to get off the whole leave the bucks alone thing. Not letting hunters that can actually take a second buck is stupid IMO. Its the 5% and the other hunters just do not like anyone getting that lucky.. Can we get deer in the 180-200 B&C range yes but it is hard for NY hunters to pass a beautiful 3.5 or older myself included. Not all of us shoot 10-20+ bucks in our lives so seeing a deer with 10-12 points is enough for us to SHOOT, we age them after! We just have too many hunters per area and many of those hunters would be proud of any 6 pt buck or doe. Doing QDM on 4 adjoining properties still will not work if the farmer down the road shoots 30-40 doe every year and tells the hunters he does not care if they kill bucks so have at it. Or the one neighbor invites his friend to fill the meat lockers and does not care about any QDM just meat, they shoot 3 spikes, 4 doe, a 4 pt and one 8pt buck all under 3.5 years old. Sorry now I'm am venting, lol.

The model 94 is a great brush gun in what ever caliber you may choose! Light easy to carry and easy to get your target with open sights! If you are looking to go out to 125 yards I would go with the 30-30 as it is light enough yet easy to reach out an touch them at that distance again the 35 is even better IMO. Good luck and let us know what you get and how you like it when shooting.

Lever actions are great. I have a 44 Mag in Winchester model 94 called the trapper model due to the shortened barrel. Great gun for close shots. My Winchester 30-30 is always a great gun and round but if I had to pick a good brush gun it would be the 12 gauge slug or the 35. I like the 35 and 44 Mag because they come in 200 and 240 grain but a slug is just a whole lot bigger!

Ok my advice to you is do not watch any of the Benoit hunting videos. They consistently shoot out past 100 yards and sometimes they miss, O my! The one who I saw miss a few times was also considered the best deer hunter in the world. But he must have been unethical because he missed so many? You need to come down off your high horse and see how the real world works. Most hunters are not expert marksmen. So as I get older and my offhand groups get larger this means I should quit hunting because now I am disrespecting the deer with my possible unethical shot? Did you just get out of college? Come down here with us mortals and see how the real world works. Or go tell Grampy he is unethical and should quit hunting now and tell his grandson sorry but I'm out! Arg PS: Don't watch and bow hunting videos because plain and simple deer can jump the arrow before it hits like mentioned before. Bow hunters must have NO ethics! LOL

ok I need some bench time! I wish lead was not so expensive, probably why I shoot the bow so much more. Only lost about 17 arrows since last years 24 but a few are still set up for hunting. Not bad considering most arrows where lost to rebar in the targets or skunk shot at 40 yards. Little stinker! Sounds like Saturday at Ridge is in the scope!

Well you know those genes will spread. Urban hunting at its best but often off limits.

LOL funny post, good luck this season!

That is cool! Love a natural blind. Made by father and son = hunting fort! Awesome! Good luck this year!

Funny stories! I get my bow and arrows and lock the front door, when I try to open the truck I realize the keys are on the kitchen table. Arg As long as we can laugh about it we are good and remembering what we are laughing about is better! Wow Zem18 glad your ok! Keys are replaceable, take care of that body you only get one!

That is not exactly like I picture it. Reminds me of southern zone opening day, lol. Also reminds me why I do not hunt opening day southern zone.
-
I guess we need to sell our guns and give up! LOL

Welcome to the site Zach, glad to have you! Grampy is a great guy, you can learn much from him especially about the outdoors and hunting so listen when he talks, I do! Looking forward to hearing about all your adventures together in the beautiful woods of New York State.

That's cool! I have to get out and shoot. Season is close! GETSOME! Getting excited.

Agree 100% plus on top of the guns ability is the shooters ability.

Testing cleaning and then retesting gives you the confidence in you weapon. Know its trajectory from 5 ft out to as far as you will take a shot and practice. Most of the really good hunters I know shoot well and often and rarely let an opportunity go by. This is another reason for their success I believe.

If I posted the cam pics of the LI deer I would be banned from the area, funny but true. LI deer can sometimes have very large antlers but that looks like at least a 3.5 to me and a really nice one! Good luck with him and be careful about posting a beauty like this until as stated you have him. O yea he is fenced in so no shooting him inside the fence or we will call you a high or maybe low fence hunter, lol.

I hope this is the year you get your buck of a lifetime! Good luck this season! Hope you have many more years to come, GOD BLESS!

Love hunting bad weather! If you have the right gear rain is no big deal. I would go and see what its like. You can always bail if it gets bad.
