  1. We have baby bunnies everywhere on LI. But I guess it is that time of the year.
  2. I understand your point Phade but when we get pushed we push back. And those pushing us are trying to take away more of our gun rights so we push back hard to keep what we already have. Personally I would rather have the few carry and conceal permit holder I know to have that weapon on them regardless of location. This includes churches, schools and any other location some guy on prescription drugs or on a mission for terrorist action against Americans can happen. As far as I am concerned there should be no gun free zones because it advertises helplessness. These killers seem to exploit this. Scary! These where good people, no these where GREAT people and the world is at a lose without them. The goodness in them is evident in the people that carry on there word and there forgiving spirit. Personally I do not think I could be as forgiving. God bless the family, friends and first responders to this horrible scene.
  3. Congrats Heather, great job Adam! Loved the video, congrats on your first deer! Enjoy the bounty! Loved the article on Hunting. I might have worded it a bit differently and put #5 First. Otherwise I though it was great!
  4. Keep in mind if they are at your house you can keep a better eye on them and he can watch you cleaning all your guns!
  5. OMG did you have to show me this! Toooo cute! I want one!
  6. Or it could be lunch for the pups. Cool shots!
  7. I have not seen or heard of anything new proposed by the DEC that makes me want to hold a protest. If they are banning hunting for some reason let me know. Otherwise I have to go mow the lawn.
  8. If a house cat can jump 6 ft, then 7 ft for a mountain lion is no big deal. I am sure if it was 10 ft and it wanted in, it would be no issue. The animal kingdom has some powerful back legs! Deer jumping 10 foot fence is pretty amazing. Here are a 2 house cats jumping over 6 ft. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KT_Lx2hyLIw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WEMtYj2pJc#t=19
  9. They are on the farms by Warner and Manor by Jericho. Berkeley Jackson Park area. We have a buck and a doe by the archery range on Pidgeon Hill Road. Survivors!!!
  10. And we have an abundance of them down here!
  11. I have this conversation quite often. Why do hunters hunt? Tradition, nature, exercise, enjoyment of the game and thrill of the hunt, living life to the fullest by challenging myself with the hardest areas to hunt. Becoming a participant of the cycle of life instead of being a onlooker. Getting your own food, instead of shopping for it. As a trophy hunter I still eat the meat but I often pass many animals. (Of course this is seen as bad, then I ask if I should shoot EVERY animal?) Most get my point. Being close to nature allows me to get closer to GOD, no other time is this more evident as when I am engulfed in deep woods stalking my favorite prey the whitetail. Like many have said this is not an easy topic for the ill informed and can require patience and understanding. Or you can just tell them it's not for everybody go back to your TV shows. (Yes that last line was sarcastic.)
  12. As much as I like to encourage new hunters this seems like a fad. Unless they are hunting a parcel that has many deer I doubt it will last.
  13. I second the Savage, I have a model 110 that is a great shooter since 1988. Only real issues I ever had was the front sight braking off. After the 3rd time I just left it off due to using a scope. Bolt screw loosens after about 50 shots, easily tightened with a quarter. Great low price gun and accurate.
  14. I would stay away from this guy!!! I have a good friend who has the inside scoop and this guy is horrible! Stay away he is a criminal! I do not normally post about someone's business but this guy is a dirt bag scum of the earth according to my buddy and I trust his judgment. If he is willing to come on here to defend himself I can bring up several issues he has with selling deer meat, giving people the wrong mount, or improperly set mount. Stay away!!! PS: You are lucky you got your money back! STAY AWAY for your own good and peace of mind.
  15. From this discussion I come to a few conclusions. 1)AR will reduce the herd due to extra doe being taken 2)AR will cause larger deer basically due to extra food availability. (Not larger antlers) Basically the more food makes a healthier herd but this does not help hunters harvest more deer. Lower deer numbers equal a healthy herd but less for us to hunt. This was a goal for AR. We should not be surprised. When I say larger in effect they are just fatter for the winter, not larger in size. 3)AR is more about having a well balanced herd but that usually results in less deer, less harvest and more hunters who loose interest due to low sightings. Great for trophy hunters but not good for hunting in general. 4)With less deer in an area they will gravitate to the properties that have the resources they require and will not have to travel long distances to get the sustenance they need to survive the rut. This less travel results in less deer taken on top of the fact that less deer are in the area. I was once an AR advocate but talking with members on this forum has changed my view. I still trophy hunt but would rather let my hunting brothers and sisters choose what they want to shoot vs letting the DEC choose for them. I believed the hype of the AR at first but now as it has progressed I can see it is really just another tool to get the herd reduced as much as possible vs getting big deer for hunters to shoot. I still do believe in AR but think it should be handled by the land owners. Most that do this type of control have a great population with many large bucks to hunt but they usually have neighbors with similar interests. It's a fine line to get a good balance on a deer herd and it really needs to be micromanaged. Regional AR's are not the answer, unless you want to cull the herd.
  16. I think they are more concerned with keeping the population in check vs having enough deer for hunters. I do not feel they are concerned with population unless it is high. I have never heard a DEC agent talk about how to get the population up in an area. Unless you talk about the ADK then they recommend praying for mild winters.
  17. Cool video, thanks for sharing! I would have to know what makes that sound, no doubt!
  18. If I wasn't nursing a neck/shoulder issue I would do it. Good luck, take pictures and or video! Sounds like a great time! Plus that is a bit of a hike to shoot my bow when I have a course less than 5 minutes away. Good luck!
  19. Nice shot!!! The fox at our archery range take most of the babies to feed her babies. We have many geese but between the fox, raccoons and hawks they have a hard time making adulthood. After 2 weeks most are gone including the parent birds. (I think the parent birds leave in frustration!)
  20. Look its a good forum but some idiots love to stir the pot and apparently you like to do the same. Take it all in stride. Many of us love to hunt and yes they are experts and with that at times come some attitude. I find a few to be well basically idiots so I let them talk all they want and they usually prove my point. Regardless it's your choice but I feel the good and cool people outweigh the idiots... Learn to ignore them because they are everywhere! Hope you stay I enjoy your posts!!!
